I have no opinion on Trump and the economy, but the constitutional crisis issue is one I'm watching with great interest (I have a background in jurisprudence - in particular, the general justification of law's claims to authority, with a small foray in one paper into intra-institutional authority and deference). The issue is that to this point in American politics, every President has simply agreed to be bound by the law (even Nixon, who said "if the President does it it's legal" grudgingly complied with court orders).  It does not seem beyond the realm of possibility that Trump will, at some point, defy a ruling against something he wants to do, basically saying "screw you" to the courts. What then? Nobody knows because it's unprecedented. That's what makes it interesting. I'm not saying this to bash Trump. I'm saying this because if it does happen, he will be pushing the limits of executive power into uncharted territory and what happens will be of tremendous importance. He could fundamentally reshape the way the separation of powers is configured if he sets a new precedent and the other branches of government acquiesce. Alternatively, the other branches of government could push back - then what? Either way, it's not crazy to call it a constitutional crisis. Whether it will happen or not is another thing, and whether you approve or not yet another.

" It does not seem beyond the realm of possibility that Trump will, at some point, defy a ruling against something he wants to do, basically saying "screw you" to the courts."

How about we wait for him to actually do that before we get all twisted in knots about it?

You'll never get a thought out conversation on this from the usual suspects who have true TDS (trump is their god).  Read the long posts above referencing "economic savings".  They don't even realize that cutting gov. programs doesn't necessarily translate to a better economy and that the money is not going to them (us citizens).   Lungbutter is pretty spot on, this country is cooked.

Cutting government programs and staffing (expenses) results in lower expenses for said government. This should also result in a smaller budget deficit. This would reduce the need to print more money. Printing less money results in lower inflation. Do you agree that lower inflation is a positive for the economy?

Absolutely. I hope this is the trend we see but we'll see what actually happens.

Same here. I'd actually like to see the money supply reduced, but I'm not holding my breath...

And he has signed 60 executive orders and none are related to making the economy better.  Also, how is he going to reduce spending by buying another country???  The conflicting points in these comments are, well, interesting to say the least.

One thing I follow very closely, professionally, is inflation...because has a major affect on long term mortgage rates...when inflation is climbing-or expected to climb, rates climb...when inflation is falling-or expected to fall, rates fall.

The markets initially priced in a Harris win (and before that a Biden win, who is very much the same as Harris), and because she was expected to be pro-tax, pro-regulation, anti-business, pro-hand outs, pro-printing money and weak on foreign policy, she was expected to be bad for the economy and thus, the weaker economy would reduce consumer confidence, and with less consumer confidence American's would spend less, and thus reduce demand for goods and-in the short term-it would reduce inflation.  Harris was going to be bad for the economy. But would continue to weaken the dollar, and be VERY inflationary in the long term.

Trump, on the other hand, is expected to be anti-tax, anti-regulation, anti-hand outs, anti-printing money, strong on foreign policy, and very much pro-business.  He is expected to be good for business, and thus good for the economy.  That stronger economy would improve consumer confidence, and with more consumer confidence Americans will spend more, and thus-IN THE SHORT TERM-the demand for goods would stay high and inflation wouldn't drop.  Trump is going to be good for the economy.  In the long term he's expected to strengthen the dollar which will bring inflation in check.

Market trade on the short term.

You can clearly see this by looking at MBS graphs...when Biden was the favorite (right up until that debate in June), the markets were expecting inflation to drop, so mortgage rates were dropping...then the debate happened, and Trump started leading the polls...and rates started climbing because he would be pro-economy and more inflationary than Biden was...And they continued to climb until Harris took over the Dem nomination in August and started leading in the polls...then because she was perceived by the markets to be bad for business and thus deflationary, mortgage rates started to fall...right up until Trump surpassed her in the polls in October...then mortgages rates started to climb.

I point all of this out, because love wall street or hate it, they get this stuff right MOST of the time. Trump is going to be good for the economy...is it going to happen in the first 3 weeks of his presidency?  Probably not...IIs it going to be "pain free"?  No...but the moves he's making will certainly be MUCH better for the economy in the long run (especially the things he's doing with DOGE, border security, and America first-yes, the tariffs-mentality, deregulation, cutting taxes, etc.).

For the past 40+ years (with a few notable exceptions) our country has been on the fast track to disaster.  Nobody with any amount of common sense can look at the fiscal, foreign, and trade policies of the past 40+ years and think "yup" everything is rosy and we have a bright future"...we have been on the fast track to financial and economic collapse...if we change nothing, it was inevitable.

Trump is changing things...he's trying to reign in wasteful spending, put policies in place which will strengthen the dollar (less wasteful spending, less hand outs will require less printing of money, bring jobs back to America, etc.), and create more fair trade agreements....all of this will eventually (and if the left doesn't try and kill everything he's doing...which they no doubt will, they'd rather see America fail than Trump win...so pathetic) bring down inflation, while also reducing/eliminating deficit spending, and bring jobs back to America.  All things that are great for the economy.

Anyway...all of that (and its so long I doubt many of the libs will take the time to read it) to say that anyone saying Trump will be bad for the economy based on results of decisions he's making and things he's doing in the first three weeks of his presidency are just partisan...(and I acknowledge all of his grandstanding with his "bring prices down on day one" nonsense...that just wasn't possible, and I wish he'd leave that stuff out).  There will be some short term pain...Even Trump acknowledges this...but its far smaller than the pain we will experience if he does nothing...and it will be a 1 step back, three giant leaps forward in the mid-long term.  So I believe its worth it.

Trump is doing the things no other president before him has had the balls to do...and what he's doing HAS to be done, or we are all screwed.

Nope.  He said he would "fix" the economy.  That should have been THE FIRST thing on his agenda.  Fixing the economy is nowhere in sight and he in fact may make it worse with his tariffs.  I ask the question because I thought I was missing something, but I guess not.

It’s been answered — you’re just too blue in the face to stop and actually understand that what Trump has already done in the first 20 days will have a far greater positive economic impact than anything the last 4 years of fuckery has done.  Jesus dude ,how can you be SO delusional??

I honestly don’t think you’re capable of nor do you want to understand how gaining access to resource or gaining control over major sea-lanes benefits a nation in the modern world. Not to mention the National Security benefits that would surely be an absolute waste of time attempting to explain to you. .

You are awarded “A Biden Level Epic Fail”.

Hey there. It’s obvious that you started a thread to shore up your own bias and never had any intention of listening to anyone. You convinced yourself that no satisfactory answer could possibly exist, then created a thread on a dirt bike forum to reassure yourself of your political views. This was never a genuine question. It was just an exercise in self affirmation.

I hope you find some calm in some aspect of your life. The angst and agitation you have is only going to get worse if you continue to undertake these self serving faux arguments. Some people—a lot of people, if we’re being honest—simply don’t agree with you. Setting out like this is an attempt to convince yourself that the only reason those people don’t agree with you is because they are stupid or unsophisticated. This is an ineffective coping mechanism that will only foster a parochial world view and disconnect you from people that may help you diversify your opinions and find common ground. We all have more common principles than you think.

Be well, brother.

Drilling more oil will certainly lower prices of not just gas, but everything else. Increasing our supply of the most valuable commodity on earth is basically the inverse of printing money.

W.Tx. Has enough oil to power the world 10k yrs .  I worked for & was a boss at the biggest pipeline company in the world .  20+ divisions it’s actually much more than that. We engineered all the government projects & constructed them to.  Built more high rises than Trump ever did.  My old employer is building the wall right now. They never built a security wall.  I paid millions to organized crime in the 90,s 1 check was 50 mil to unions, dems clip it for funding there campaigns, crooked politicians, etc.  you pay to b a part of hundreds billion dollar projects.   Trump tried to get around this & hired illegals & paid them a scab wage . He did not want to pay 100+ an hr union wages.  He was know as a slick crooked contractor.  He filed bankruptcy how many times & got how many government eased loans? Bankrupt his Casinos ona double date we walked threw 1 it was trashed people smashed the machines . I worked with all the buisness agents of every union in the north east.  Including NYC of course.  He was a dem worked with crooked attorneys like dem Guiliany . Later the mayor of nyc . To bust the unions & organized crime . Making the RICO act . Basically making laws to destroy organized crime that control the unions . That all Blue collar people belonged to. Because the middle class was becoming to successful.  We didn’t hv a choice but to vote for him.  But saying drill baby drill shows he knows nothing about how to get the economy going.  Talk of no tax on ot hrs.  Who is getting ot when people manufacturing is down, NO freight .  The biggest carrier has bean counters that study futures of everything.  Beer is the only thing to show a increase in 25. And a dead economy the next 4 yrs.   The country is in the biggest hole it’s ever been in.  The last 2 1/2 yrs corporations r screaming Get rid of WOTC workers opportunity Tax Credit. They can not get production out of these people. And racist against white qualified people.  Where hand out nation women with masters degrees say military hand out is worse than the welfare .  If you want to make 800+ k in todays money . Pre 96 wotc u had to work for it .  Strongest hhg rig every week fly a new marine , navy seal, army special forces in . And they quit in 3 days or got fired .  He took away traveling workers itamized tax expenses deductible. That 1/2 our wages or more .  The People who built this country r getting screwed . The middle class is get fucked again.  Countless military loads gone missing, ammunition, etc.  most co.s in America are operated from eastern Europe.  Would u trust weapons or Tactical war plans even scrapped ones with a co operated from Russia operating here ?   Aprox  3 million of these co.s are doing this. Warehouses all ovr the country are a part of it too.  I here people all ovr the Country say there’s going to be a civil war here.  Trump is busy I think getting stuff done but I think it’s a show for the rich . Every president imo is a total joke.  Maybe give the free condos in Florida & Texas that illegals where given, free mini vans, phones for all 7 family members, computers, tv s, furniture. To legal Americans or truckers that live in trucks because they can’t afford an apartment but work 140 hrs a weeks for 9 1/2 months straight with no day off.

It’s so funny how so many of you think you’re on a high horse and calling OP a troll but you can’t even answer the simple question he asked.

Why is he a troll?

Cause he hurt your feelings by trying to make you explain something?

Downvote away if you’re one of the dumb fucks that worships Trump but can’t even answer a simple question.

Amazing that some can't see that, he's not after an "answer".

The answer has been spelled out here repeatedly.

He's here to play the pee wee herman game of, "I know you are, but what am I".

And he'll be back here playing it, all day long.

It can't possibly be worse than the last 4 years. Just to put it in perspective, the 380,000 dollar house I'm building would have been a 295,000 dollar house 5 years ago.

I wish the extra 85,000 was going to my family's pocket, but it's not. The 85,000 is how much more building materials are due to inflation. 11 dollar sheets of OSB are now 25.

If it keeps up I'll be renting the rest of my God damn life.
