As long as there is a safe area to do so, and as long as they get the position they are in at the time, id give it a shot.
So... Kenny falls over in the first turn and has trouble kickstarting his bike. by the time he gets it fired up the leaders are lapping him. so, is his race over and he has to pull off??
Personally, I'm not sure if he should or not. Lappers are a tough problem to solve.
I think after falling X amount of seconds behind they should have to pull off before they are lapped, and will finish in the order they get flagged off.
You’d have races with one person in sometimes.

Once lapped? So only the first place guy has to navigate around a lapper while everyone else behind them gets clean air?
Stricter blue flag rules is all that makes sense to me in the current conversation. Also should have never gone to 22 riders. 20 riders was fine.
They could have all lapped riders leave the track when there's like three minutes left in the race . All there lights on the forks turn red so they know to leave. We would still have some during the majority of the race and they have plenty of time to battle but the leaders could finish their race with less riders" in the way".
From what I recall he just said it was tough getting around the lappers and that that sucked. I don't see how you can infer from that anything about him thinking that they should have to pull off. That's reading an awful lot into what he said. Perhaps he just thinks they should get out of the way. Or perhaps he thinks that it sucks but it's just part of racing. Not everyone thinks that everything that sucks needs to be fixed.
How would they even get off the track? By the last 3 minutes everyone is spread out and at 190bpm, it would be a war zone.
Nope
Would make things worse surely? Worst part of lappers are them trying to race the leading riders. If they're potentially getting knocked out of the race they'll only race harder to stay in it.
What's stopping the front runners from practicing getting through lappers? They could host privateers during the week.
Hampshire got lapped this weekend, the defending 250W Champion. So he should have had pull off and exit the race?
Tomac was lapped twice. Should he have pulled off too?
Maybe two laps down, but not one. We’ve seen guys come from way back, but not from two laps down.
I don't care If you are Tomac or not, when you are being lapped you pull off and that is where you finish. as for all the other racers behind you.
Maybe they get relegated to a lapper track if you will. They can continue their race in the infield (a race within a race) while the real race for points and dough is on the "lead lap / premier" track. You want entertainment, that would sure fit the bill.
Only problem I see, is a fast guy going down a lap (from a crash / mechanical) and then re-entering race a lap down. Maybe a purgatory then transfer out of the "lapper" track would be in order. You leading the lappers on the lapper track? You can re-enter with the "Premier" race.
Lappers are a part of motorsports. I can't think of another form of pro racing that removes them from the racing, but feel free to correct me.
If you guys think SX riders have it rough, go watch Petit Le Mans.
You need to take your ideas, type them out, print a few hundred copies, and post them around the pits.
I know a guy named Profeshanal125 that can help edit to get your message across clearly.
To really drive home the point, don't put your name on it. Studies show anonymous messages are seen as more valid.
Pit Row
You have earned the right to race the main event...you race just like anyone else.
As some one said above adding 22 riders did not help and it's almost always the same guys just riding around out there after 5 laps. Some of them are no longer even racing anymore.
Four strokes ruined racing!
450s ruined racing!
Electric bikes will ruin racing!
Other racers are ruining racing!
Is this about the Roczen sand crash? If it is, that was 100% on Kenny.
I've said it for a long time, yes this needs to be the rule. As the old saying goes, the blue flag means there's a race going on and you're not in it. Once lapped, that rider should complete that lap and then pull off into the mechanic's area. That rider is awarded the position he was in when crossed the finish on that lap. Yes, this does mean the lead rider may be the only one having to deal with lappers but that should, if anything, help keep the racing closer. In cycling, the lead rider has to cut through the air to the advantage of everyone else, this is no different. In the long run, it will improve safety a heck of a lot more than having only 9 whoops would.
FILTHY Phil's TAKE.... ON LAPPERS.. "Let's hear it from 2 guys who never raced a SX" lol "They gotta do something!" ?
Yes, and you can stay in the race if you're fast enough to stay in the lead lap. Just like you earn the right to be in the night show through qualifying, but it doesn't guaratee you a spot in the main. Just because you're in the main doesn't mean you need to still be in there if you're not fast enough to stay on the lead lap.
It will make the racing more interesting and push riders to not get lapped.
I was thinking the same thing, these guys are unreal on a bike and at making passes against guys close to their speed but man they pretty much all struggle mightily passing guys going a lot slower.
Maybe the teams need to pay a retired GNCC guy to come train them how to pass lappers, they pass like hundreds of them every race in the woods.
this ends at the joke someone made over the weekend on here where basically we just stop racing and it's timed superpole laps but as the main event with one rider on track at a time.
All racers should be wearing a shock collar and when they are about to be lapped an official should zap them with low voltage. That way they will know when to pull over and make way for the leaders.
If we were ever to go with a pull off type of rule there are two option:
1- Pull off and their race is done right before they get lapped.
Pro- No lappers causing issues for the leaders/guys lapping them
Con- Guys crash off the start, bike doesn't start or has to stop for mechanic to fix something their race is done before it ever gets started.
2- They can go one lap down, but once they are 1-1/2 to 1-3/4 laps down they get pulled off and they finish wherever they were the last time they crossed the finish line.
Pro- They have the opportunity to continue racing for longer
Con- Still gives the opportunity to get in the way or cause issues.
Idk if there really is a perfect solution to the lapper issue. They can start with making adjustments to the blue flag rule and making penalties harsher for ignoring it.
Wow, Vital has reached a new low...................
