It was just announced at the races tonight that the track will be closing for good in a month! I don't know the reason but in the last few years they have had problems with the lease. Those that have rode there know that Granite Construction has done a lot of mining there. All but the JB Track is left of what used to be 4 tracks and a drag strip. The rest is a huge quarry now. That means A Day In The Dirt will be located somewhere else now.

Just heard that Granite Construction wouldn't renew L.A.C.R.s lease. Bummer deal for The Barbacovi's and the sport they/we love.

This is a bummer. I have had good times and bad times - those bad being on a gurney on my way to Lancaster General and ultimately surgery, cast for six months and a beautiful scar. Something I will remember fondly for a long time. The good are riding motos with all my friends.

Just a note to add, this is the No. 1 enemy of Motocross. Land development. I don't know the facts, but I do know who Granite Construction is, most everyone in California does. They build our roads. A good company that employs a lot of people. So this isn't sound closing a track, just natural progression of the modern age. If anything, hauling the dirt out of that area will be an issue for Avenue T, more trucks added to the existing manufacturing already there. That stretch of road is in-between the freeway and residential. People in a hurry to get where they are going.

I am going to try to make it to LACR for one last time. It will be missed.

Jack Barbacovi will always find something. My Dad and Jack found LACR a couple months before Indian Dunes closed because with the Dunes closing the needed a venue.. Jack made the transition so smooth nobody even really noticed it. They had there last Indian Dunes race one week and the next week they were at LACR like nothing happened. Jack probably already has something up sleeves for a new venue. Jack is as core moto as it gets and had been promoting races for decades. I don't think Jack would even know what to do with himself if he wasn't building tracks and promoting races. He probably argues with pissed off mini dads in his sleep.

Definitely a bummer...that has been the trend around the world as development never stops. You would think the MX community would come together with a united front, appearing to be willing to stand up as a mass group determined to STOP this trend.... ah fuck... I forgot my meds AGAIN!

Support always comes a day late and a dollar short, the turnouts have been way down, hard to keep a track open with no support. So now another track bites the dust due to no support. It happens and it's a shame really, losing a track in MX just hurts the sport all around.

Huge lawsuit on Qual canyon plus way expensive to run there, AV Plex at the fairgrounds in Palmdale & Lancaster I hear is a good track and only about 15 mins or so from LACR. CRC will stay in business it's just the track not being around. Jack will ber like us, CMC, traveling promoter.

AV MotoPlex isn't that good of a track. It has potential if the right person owned it. I live 5 miles from it and i used to rider there every week. It's by far the worst watering i have ever seen on a track. They don't shut practice down to water. Instead they try and do it while your riding. One lap you come to a section and it's dry and the next lap it's so muddy you can barley get through it. The water truck has hit me with the side sprayer at least 6 times. Once it was so bad i had water in my air box. The owner doesn't put any effort in listening to riders on how to water, maintain, make track changes etc.. The track lay out hasn't changed in a year. It is closed now till september for track improvements. So we will see if it's any better then.

I echo Sondra's thoughts too.
It's a bummer for sure.
Jack & family are great people & we're all friends.
Raised my son through his system of races over the yrs.
Great tracks at LACR, great times, and great memories for sure.
The rental rides, Friday nights, Sat. practice sessions, etc., a BLAST!
The people & many friends...
Sad............

It sounds more like his lease simply wasn't being renewed by the landowner. Was it actually more a lack of business?

The past few wed. night practices had a low rider turn out. Same with sat. night races. It's due to the economy i'm sure. But the only reason it's closing is because of the lease not being renewed.

I think we are talking about 2 different places. Adelanto Motoplex is a fenced 60 acre park off the road to El Mirage in Adelanto... Rick Johnson had it for a while and tried to build a truck raceway there then a guy named Steve took it over. It was a super fun track and pretty long. The dirt was awesome.

Sondy from what Daphne said about the Quail Canyon track, the lawsuit is not what shut the place down. And as far as cost goes, it can't be any less profitable for the State the way its running right now than if a promoter came in and ran it (correctly this time). I think the LACR guys or you should make them an offer! It be good for MX and good for the state.

I've heard two different stories, from two somewhat reliable sources, one was Jack didn't renew the lease and the other was the Rock Quarry didn't renew the land lease.

And No interest in Quail Canyon, been there done that for over 20 years !! I'll just keep running at Glen Helen, Starwest, Milestone, Perris and my borthers new track =)

I made the announcement at LACR last night, and also have a copy of the letter they sent my dad.............Granite Construction exercised an option on their 2008 contract to not renew the current agreement. LACR will host it's final Saturday night race this week, remain open for practice (Wed Sat & Sun) in August........then host the last GP on Monday of Labor Day weekend..........we are currently discussing plans for a farewell event the last weekend of September, then the gates will close for good. www.crcmx.com for more info.
