"Why dont presidents fight the war? Why do they always send the poor?" I'll sleep easier knowing this burden has been lifted off the U.S. taxpayers backs.

CLAIM: A video clip shows Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy saying that Americans will have to send their “sons and daughters” to the war in Ukraine.

AP’S ASSESSMENT: Missing context. Zelenskyy was explaining that if Russia attacked NATO member states, which are U.S. allies, the U.S would likely send troops to protect those countries. He was not suggesting Americans would have to fight in Ukraine.

THE FACTS: The clip, cut from a two-hour livestreamed news conference on the somber one-year anniversary of Russia’s war on Ukraine, shows Zelenskyy speaking with the audio dubbed by a translator.

“The U.S. will have to send their sons and daughters exactly the same way as we are sending their sons and daughters to war,” he says. “And they will have to fight. Because it’s NATO that we’re talking about, and they will be dying, god forbid, because it’s a horrible thing.”

Social media users posted the clip this week with claims Zelenskyy was calling for Americans to fight in Ukraine.

“Zelensky’ is a dangerous sociopath who wants your children to fight his war,” reads a tweet shared more than 4,000 times.

But the full context of the clip reveals that the Ukrainian president was talking about a hypothetical situation in which Russia invades NATO member countries, not calling for Americans to fight in his country.

And I think Zelensky is wrong. USA would not send troops if some small NATO country would be attacked.

The war is over, right? The felon/rapist said it would be over on day 1 of his term.

Not sure the rapist vs sexual assault hair is worth splitting, even if technically true.

I don't like the idea of sending troops. I like the idea of exhausting Putin, not cornering him.

Wasn't he actually found liable for besmirching the woman's character for making up the rape story? In other words, he was mean to the crazy woman.

I bet George Stephanopoulos and his employer would beg to differ.

Also I'm against sending troops into this mess.

Then the US is not fit for NATO. Will the US return all the money NATO countries put in to their wars?

Zelensky's term was up almost a year ago. Ukraine deserves an elected president to be in any negotiations.

Also Vital - Fucking idiots saying they should do more of the heavy-lifting in the event of a peace deal...

Surprised he has the time or resources to send troops. Usually he’s too busy throwing people in jail for saying things he doesn’t like. But yes send troops now so hopefully he can get credit for helping end it. Guy is a shit stain and you know it. I’m not for anyone dying regardless of which country it is.

Ukraine constitution prohibits election during martial law. If you haven`t noticed there is war going on.

Russian propaganda in full swing in USA. No wonder russians say americans are easy pickings.

Propaganda is a 2 way street, it gets played on both sides. I never notice you pointing out the BLATANT CORRUPTION and bribery that has plagued Ukraine for decades - and I wont even get into former U.S. Presidents getting cought moving money in and out of Ukraine. Why is that?

You guys are missing the forest for the trees. You’re so stuck on individuals, places and things you’re missing the bigger picture.

There are massive multinational investment companies. These companies/corporations essentially control the American economy. Collectively they own so much of the market they can manipulate the stock market whichever way they please. They also control the government and the politicians which administer. They have so much power and influence that they by default pretty much own America and many other countries around the world because they have a monopoly on money and therefore the economic conditions of day to day life. This is partly what the citizens united case/occupy Wall Street movement was all about.

These very same multi national investment companies that control American politics and the economy also have massively huge investments in the Russian economy.

These very same companies that control America and have major investments in Russia also get their money in part from American citizens. So guess what guys! Many of you proud working class Americans (possibly even myself included since I do keep my money in a bank!!!!) are financing the Russian war machine and the American war machine. Your/our entire existence is a contradiction.

What’s our responsibility here? Exactly what would you have us do? I don’t get this “Russia invaded Ukraine! Fuck you, America!” rhetoric.

Who is saying “fuck America”?

The fact is, America, and the rest of NATO,  made a promise to help protect Ukraine from Russian aggression in exchange for turning over ex Russian nuclear warheads.

Russian aggression happened.  I think it’s ok for the people of Ukraine to expect us to not side with the Russian government in a farce peace negotiation.

And no, I do not support funding a war forever, but real leadership would actually hold Russia accountable for their aggression, and keep our word to the people of Ukraine.

Just because the Biden administration failed, is no reason to let Putin have a victory.

Isn't this overlooking the US involvement in the regime change in Ukraine which essentially led to Ukraine cozying up to NATO and the West (and also possibly opening up the doors for US politicians funneling money through Ukraine)?

Also, wasn't Britain a part of the Trilateral Agreement? I couldn't find any info about it being NATO defending Ukraine, just the US and Britain, and Russia too ( I suppose if the western nations threatened Ukraine).

How about not giving Russia a free pass on straight up invading another country and starting the bloodshed. For starters. This is Putins doing. Shutting the invaded out of negotiations is rather nuts.

How about the Biden Crime Family exploiting Ukraine for years? Why doesn’t anybody mention that? How much money got laundered and kicked back? Corrupt little country.

Nobody talks about the nuclear weapons that were/or were going to be on Ukrainian soil. Kind of like the Cuban Missile crisis.

Putin's playing Trump like a cheap fiddle. The Orangutan likes to think he's the president of the world but the reality is he's a mouse in a maze.

In war time elections give way to simply having the best man for the job. Winston Churchill was never elected as Prime Minister in 1940 but appointed by King George and the rest is history.

I just find it odd that people from the Baltic states aren't volunteering by the millions to get into the fight if they are that worried about Russia/Putin gaining more ground and eventually take over more of the Baltic states.  For most of the Baltic states it's less than a 20 hour drive to get into the fight.  There's plenty of Americans over there fighting that have traveled from very far to fight...I believe over 20 are still MIA.

Much easier to sit back and complain about America not doing enough for them rather than put skin in the game themselves.

And mainstream media is pounding you like a drum.  Four short years ago this conflict didn't exist to this degree.  But yeah, it's Trump that's being played.
