A buddy dropped off his 2006 Kawasaki KX250 to do a build on. A pretty good donor bike to start with and nothing too mangled. The plan is to go all out. All ti hardware. I found some showa a-kit on eBay. All the carbon pieces I can find and make some additional. Here is how it came to me. I will keep posting updates in here along the way.

Tearing it down. Not too many surprises. It does look like the steering stop was busted off of the head tube at one point and very poorly reattached.
I had planned to use the trick engineering steering stop adapter to be able to upgrade to the the modern four stroke forks and triple clamps. The poor job of reattaching the steering stop would not allow this. So I designed a piece to be welded on to the head tube to work with the new triple clamps.

That’s one hell of a chopped silencer!
Please replace the plastic with original OEM!

Oem plastic is so much better
I agree! Those restyle kits should be banned. They look absolutely horrible!
100%, that restyle kit is going in the garbage!
Oem plastic is really hard to beat on these last gen kawis. Looking forward to following this one along! Here’s mine from a few years ago.

So clean!
No kidding! I suddenly want a damn Kawasaki.
Got the frame back from powder. Went with a metallic silver, argent silver was the name. Mounted the titanium pro pegs with titanium pivot pins. Let the fun begin!
The rims plus wheel set with magnesium colored hubs laced to did dirt star stx.
Are those dents in the frame spars supposed to be there? Maybe a result of the forks from the broken stop?
It looks like originally there's no dents in the frame
Unfortunately they are not.
Hopefully covered up by shrouds…. My OCD and bodywork background would have had me filiing those dents, but then I don’t think you could have had the frame powdered, would have had to refinish with automotive paint for best results. Cool build👍
Pipe looks pretty bent too. Always fun doing a full frame build, you never know what you'll find.
Find a good welder and have them run a few tig passes if you cant stand it. should be able to grind them out flush no problem.
Pit Row
Wheels are mostly complete, waiting on the Dunlop tire stickers.

I love those Braking EPTA discs! I put them on my 06 125:

I’ve had my eyes on your build for awhile! So perfectly done! Now I just need to find that shock!
I swear one of these days I want to build one up just like this. So sick. These last gen Kawis 250t are still one of the best body designs imo.
Hey chuck do you know anyone who makes a carbon fiber air box for 06 250?
What about the real plastic conversion? I’m about to do an 07 kx. Torn leaving it stock on doing the conversion.
Engine is done. It was vapor blasted, new top end, and plenty of new goodies. All titanium hardware.
Got it dropped in the frame and looks pretty good. I am going to cerakote the power valve covers still. Haven’t decided on color. I was thinking sniper gray or similar.
The carbon fiber engine hangers and ti hardware I designed adding to the custom factor.
Last pic is the showa sff air A kit forks I was able to snag for $900. They are a little beat up but nothing crazy.
I vote stock, the real converson is cool, but I have a soft spot for the original plastics! Either way I have seen some amazing builds.
I had those A Kit 49 mm SFF AER forks. Are those with a balance spring? If you need to do some maintenance you will have to remove the lug on the spring side. What are your settings. I ran a lot less in the balance chamber. Art of war has the tool to service those.
