Man this is a great watch, he gets quite emotional in this, I still feel like there is a lot more to this story, but he opens up quite a lot in this!
I'll have to watch this when I have some time, I've been quite curious. I asked some people in the industry, but nobody wanted to open up about it.
I wonder who the sensitive colleague was that he offended in 2020 🤨
2 main reasons. Blair and the exec at NBC weren't on the level and Blair and RC working relationship fractured (he doesn't really go in to detail on this)
Definitely watching this later but any NBC executives that thought RC over DB was the right call missed a great opportunity at a wonderful career in congress.

it was never DB over RC. DB was after the play by play roll filled by Leigh and Todd Harris. The working relationship between them had soured in to some degree though.
reading the tea leaves in my opinion it sounds like the NBC exec didn't think Daniel had the credibility or success in the sport to be the front line play by play commentator. Coupled with RC probably being a douchebag to work with was enough for him to say enough.
“The Main-Dude at NBC sucks.”
And…there are other people that, instead of being threatened by Daniel (and his vastly superior skills on the mic), could have stood up for Daniel…
But, fragile little egos and some weird sort of entitlement kept men…well, a certain man, from acting like fucking men. Thus, a certain hero in this sport is no longer “a hero” in this sport…to me. So, uh, it’s like that.
Daniel’s clearly the best person with a mic that’s covered Supercross and he’s certainly…BY FAR…the best “man on the ground”. I especially loved the segment at the end of the night where he’d walk the track and show us exactly how tore up shit got and how deep the foot-pegs were digging into the dirt during the main…man, I miss that and it sure as hell would be nice to get that…and him…back.
It's just business- "Tin Foil Hat" month doesn't start until February. 🤣
Speaking of business, what's that small emblem pinned to RC's jacket lapel? What's that? A Monster logo? Okay, that's how he's compensated.
Daniel Blair is a great broadcaster. But great broadcasters need to be paid, and Monster pays the guy who has won the most races in the history of the sport.
So disappointing that one of the best TV guys this sport has had got run out by an executive, who apparently didn't like him personally.
are you insinuating monster is paying RC's salary on behalf of NBC?
Is he talking about Ricky?? I don’t understand the whole not saying a name thing and making it so dramatic
no he's talking about Ricky when he mentions the fractures. but when he mentions the main guy at NBC he had a meeting with he's talking about an NBC exec.
I'm hoping RC's days of destroying the art of play by play commentary will be over soon due to the arrival of Stew. The broadcasters clearly think you have to have premier class championships to have the job - and there aren't many that do. Stew does and he is far superior to RC as a commentator in that he provides actual analysis informed by his deep understanding of the sport.
I understand why he may not want to be more specific but it was disappointing DB was so vague around the reasons the NBC guy reamed him and said his broadcasting career at NBC was not going any higher.
2 sides to this story. Ive heard one side.
Over the break waiting for A1, there was a lot of older race replays on YouTube. I watched Daytona 2013 (I think?). Shouty Ralph and Emig as leads and I think RC was a guest because it was Daytona. RC's comments were articulate and insightful, and not word salad. There was also another blonde on the sidelines (forgot her name) saying the exact same stuff that Will Christien says now, except with an American accent. I like RC, I just think the producers are trying to get RC to do too much and he's not on that level, nor needs to be. Everyone complaining about RC and Will need to go back and watch older races, they just hate on her because of her accent and hate RC because he's not being used effectively. Blair could have been great in the right role but the producers and execs always think they know better and don't like to be told otherwise
Dude, you should finish this type of post with…
Although, it’s not like I have an opinion or anything. 🤣
In the words of Stew "he had to make a business decision".
Kudos to Daniel for laying it all out there and making the right choice. Let's just say folks at NBC do not have a reputation for making great decisions.
It ain't Wills accent dude....
It's the blathering, useless content.....
Pit Row
I get what you're saying, but she's just doing her job and saying what she's being told to say. The American blonde was saying the exact same stuff, "I spoke to so and so during the week and he said....etc etc". It was the same shit word for word, just a different accent. I don't remember people complaining about the trackside girl back then. Same with Jenny Taft, she never actually added anything about what was happening, it was all useless info. People just like to hate because of an accent or nationality
Does any other broadcaster have an M logo on their shirt?
How about they hate because she adds nothing and legitimately lies about "I talked to..."
People use her accent as a way to describe her, which doesn't automatically make it the REASON they can't stand her. Look at this thread as an example...."The other blonde girl...."
Must mean that dude hated her because she was blonde, right?
Not sure how that means monster is paying his nbc salary? Just sounds like he still has a relationship with monster.
"Is the whole you and Ricky thing fake news?"
"Which Thing?"
"Well... There were things coming out that were like you versus him..."
"I would say (groans audibly)... I knew this question was coming, too. We did not have the best final year... but I idolized him my entire life, at about a quarter inch shorter than me (laughs)... and I look back now and say it was rewarding to me, But I will be honest and say there was some fracturing."
To me , he comes across as the NBC exec's lack of respect for him being the only reason he left.
Though he described his relationship with RC as being fractured , he followed that up with saying that overall he viewed his time on the show with RC being a positive experience. By him saying that, seems he's removing any blame from RC for his exit from NBC.
It’s a damn shame the broadcast isn’t Weege, Blair and Stew right now. Would be the dream team.
No surprise a damn EMPLOYEE of a company got butthurt and made it persoal against DB. Crazy that one weak person is the reason we don’t have the best guy in the booth. Corporate America can’t help but fuck up everything it touches. Would love the see the cuck in question.
I can’t put it any more clearly.
Who in the organization would you say drove this NBC exec's opinion of Blair and his commentary on motocross?
I'll pull the band-aid. I think DB was doing his job too good and becoming more assertive in his segments and becoming the darling of social media and forums and RC got territorial and talked to the guy at NBC (who already had a problem with DB ) who then called DB in and reminded him of his place and told him to tone it down and sit in the corner like a good boy. DB is holding back in his comments about RC.
Ding ding ding...

Just wanted to bring this back to light, as many people at the time said it just seemed like two friends ripping on each other… if you ask me, Ricky’s being a real asshole here. I wouldn’t want to work alongside the guy either.
Personally, I hope he takes over the Pulp show once (or if) Steve decides to ever hang it up. Hoping SXU brings him some success though, DB deserves it.
