He’s in his own head. It may take a year or two for him to back out of it and just start having fun again. I think once the expectations fall off a little we will see the phenom we all expect. For now he isn’t in a good place.

It’s insulting and wrong to talk like Americans don’t like him because he’s Australian.  It’s the same reason people hate on Deegan….who is American.  The lack of humility and obnoxious comments are the reason.  Reedy was my fav rider at the time…and while cocky…he didn’t rub wrong the same way.  The whining cry that it’s because he’s not American is stupid….and makes me like him even less…why?….because the victim card is a huge pussy move….even in this instance.

….and I like Hunter more….who happens to be…yes…Australian.

…and I love Australia btw.  ..and the few Australians I actually know.  In many ways Australians are more like Americans than almost anyone else.

…and I like Roczen even though I like Germany less than Australia

….and I like Vialle….even though I like, and lived in, France less than Australia.

….it’s not the nationality, unless it’s MXdN, it’s the personality.

I think the boo'ing might actually be getting in his head too. He got booed last night at A1 again during opening ceremonies.

I think it's ridiculous, I like the kid and we shouldn't be dicks to the riders. But between that and his bike not being all the way dialed. I think he's a bit jaded right now.

I wouldn't be surprised to hear Jett has been sick. He did not look like himself last night.

Here is a tip.  Don't  announce  your goals to the world.  Keep them to yourself.  He has made a lot of fans angry at him by stating his goal is to dethrone the King.

Saw this mentioned in some other threads, and wanted to break it out away from the other topics, but does Jett look happy? I picked up on the same things others mentioned, he just looks off. Before he was happy, smiling, light hearted, now he looks so serious and like he doesnt want to be there. Even going out on opening ceremonies he didnt look too pumped. Maybe we are all reading too much into it, idk, but just seems like a different Jett then the one who busted onto scene few years ago; maybe the fans turning on him and cheering for the "Vet" guys is taking its toll.

Maybe because he gets shit for everything he does?.

He ate a Donut on the podium and then people started calling him donutboi and not in a positive way.

He said he had a goal of surpassing 72 wins and got a lot of shit because he ”disrespected” McGrath by saying that he had a goal.

Then it’s the Anderson thing where he got booed a bunch after that.

Just look in here you can see that it’s plenty of people just waiting/wanting to see him fail. Both on Vital and other social media it’s often comments about that they should go back to Australia, that people want any rider but him to win etc.

Ofc that will take a toll on a young man and wash out all the light hearted behavior. I don’t think he enjoys it the same way anymore since it looks like no matter what he does he can’t do anything right.

Very well put.

At least he has a really good supportive family and crew around him.  In terms of fans - it's only a subset of American fans that hate him. As he knows, when he came back to Australia he could see how appreciative the Australian fans are of what he's doing.

He needs to not look at his social media and block out the hate from aforementioned American fans.  Fuck 'em. When he starts clocking off the wins he'll cheer up I reckon.

I see your point Shred, and in your case this might be true. It might even be the case that the hate from a group of American fans is for the reasons you mentioned. It just seems more than a coincidence that the only group of people hating Jett Lawrence are American.  And contrary to what DonM says, I'm not anti-American - in fact I'm the exact opposite of anti-American.

I suppose you could argue the fact Jett is Australian means Australians and other nationalities are blinded toward his so-called crimes but I don't think that's the case - especially when you list these 'crimes'. In my view the crimes don't match the punishment.

“Crimes” is a little harsh.  It’s basically personality…yes..atatched to words and actions.  I doubt most American fans attach Australian to a reason of dislike.  JMO.  ….and I dislike Deegan more than Jett.  Personality.

Funny how when they switched over to the 25’ in motocross last year they mentioned how great of a platform it was and how great the bike felt.

Now the bike is a problem ?

Is that the case or did the rest of the field just step up their game ?

Just watch how sketchy Jett and Hunter look on it. Don’t have to compare them to anyone except themselves.

I think they might have built a great outdoor bike. That they can’t get right indoors. Jett is usually silky dmooth snd he just looked like he was struggling to get any traction or flow. The more he tried to push the worse it got.

Its their own fault though. Honda built the bike they wanted. The bike they had was superior though.

You 'created this a couple of years ago"

Cool story.

But, its not overplayed. Each of your examples has a counter argument especially if one of those riders tangled with an American, or they went on win streaks.

Anyway, have fun making memes.

Have fun in delusional land....

During a preseason SX show they asked a bunch of riders about who was the best in whoops, jumps, turns, etc. All the other riders responded with respectful answers giving credit to their competitors. Jett said in every category “me”. It was some ugly arrogance, I thought at the time that it was probably a bad sign for his 2025 season, it came across as disrespectful and insecure.

I’m a fan of Jett, Hunter too. I hope he gets his attitude figured out..

Why is everyone assuming the bike is the problem?  He destroyed everyone in SMX after being out for all that time.  Has he said the bike is a problem anytime in the last month?  He definitely failed last night and it was unreal he wasn't able to move through the pack further, but A1 is always strange.  I for one hope Chase, Eli, Cooper, and others keep him close and battle and I am not a Jett fan, but all this bike shit is silly.  Please don't bring up Hunter, he is a 5-10 guy unless the stars align with crashes etc.

Solid observation. In all of my years of watching American supercross, there is often a certain disdain for foreigners and it is f-ing weird. From the BOOing of JMB or Reed, to now this. For me, it was expected. American moto fans are kinda predictable. That being said, as an American and moto fan, I can not wait to see Jett surpass the King's record and become the new King.

Did Shimoda get boo'd last night?  How about Prado or any other foreigners?  Jett gets boo'd because of his antics and cockiness, not because he's a foreigner.  If Jett is humble and doesn't perform tantrums (at Anderson) he'll get a lot less hate and boos.

Nearly all of it depends on character.  Deegan gets a ton of hate as well, but it stems from his antics and cockiness too.  However, his podium speech last night was very solid/humble and will lessen hate for him if he continues that tone.   Deegan could have easily blamed his fall on someone else or acted like was robbed of winning that race and should have won for sure, but no he didn't go there.  He gave props to the other riders who beat him and said the spotlight should be shined on them.

For those who've been around long enough, when RC used to get beat he would simply say, "I got my ass handed to me, I have some work to do".  Whereas Jett will blame his losses on mistakes or bike setup.  His excuse for losing qualifying last night was "I was trying too hard. I need to slow it down to go faster".  Whereas someone like a humble RC would have said, "Eli was hauling ass out there and now I have some work to do to catch him"

I've gone to SX races since 1990, I know what I have seen and heard. It's all good, you can think there is no grudge against foreigners and we are all good.

OK so American fans boo foreigners that win except jo shimoda because he's not a threat even though he beats everyone else. Sound logic, maybe you should continue to use stiks and stones.

He's not wrong though.

A few days ago Jett had a "goal" of a perfect SX season...then he goes out and rides like THAT !!!

Aka...he got handed a whoopin.

Edit:  As a fan its was painful to watch.  The times the camera focused on Jett looked like he was riding dejected, almost pouting on the bike.  Fans dont want to see a capable champion saunter though the race, they expect to see what Eli and Deegan did...ride their asses off.

Unless it comes out that the bike is a practical death trap or something, then that ride reminded me of Bradshaw at the coliseum in 92.

He's not the most likeable guy. He comes off very cocky. Talking about beating MC's record before his first 450 gate drop, this year a perfect season etc. Even in that video they did yesterday where they asked riders about different attributes of who is the best. He says "me" every time. It's annoying. Like I said in the other thread, having high goals and wanting to be the best is great. Most top athletes do that. But you can strive for those things and still not act that way in the public eye. And if you still choose to say things like that, don't be surprised if it gets a negative reaction.

As for the bike, it's early to say. It looked like an instant upgrade, mid-Nationals. Looked great in SMX. It may take a couple rounds to really get comfortable for SX, which I think is normal. But also, wasn't this new bike essentially designed around the Lawrences' input? Would be wild if they end up hating it.

Spot on comments.

People blaming the bike….Give a listen to this at 11+05 mark.  Better than last year.

Jett came out and said they need to work on the bike. He said he was struggling big time in the whoops not only with the bike but himself.

Funny how when they switched over to the 25’ in motocross last year they mentioned how great of a platform it was and how great the bike felt.

Now the bike is a problem ?

Is that the case or did the rest of the field just step up their game ?

He's a professional athlete representing Honda, he is paid to say the new model is better, so it sells, why would he say anything different?

Didn't they say the Lawrence brothers had a lot of input in the 2025 bike design when they started racing them last year?
