Honestly, there are only 2 teams that are able to compete in this class and that is Pro Circuit & Geico. I thought this was an entry level class here. I notice that there are many riders out there who have the talent & ablity to be there, but dont have a chance as they dont have the $$$ in there bikes like these teams. Why not make it equal. Ama should step in to regulate the spending in this and make it equal for all the riders. The priveteers dont stand a chance with all this big rig teams.

What do you think?

The Supercross "Lites" class is a regional race and they have rules on suspension. The OUTDOOR Nationals don't have the same rules. National racing has always been about $$ and Teams spend. Back in the day the Factories had bikes that were far superior that what everyone else had. The Teams you are talking about have filled in when the factories stepped back. Pretty much the riders that ride stock bikes are learning the ropes and if they show they can get it done they get help and move up. The 250's are a hard class to do this and I believe thats why you see so many race in 450's.

A huge part of those two teams success is that they have the best riders in the class on their bikes.

There is nothing better than a factory bike, but i think with some factories funding more satellite teams, it almost spreads the wealth a little bit. Teams like Star Racing, Honda of Troy, MotoConcepts, Troy Lee Racing, Rockstar Suzuki, and even Suzuki City are helping kids get rides. Some of those are better than others but there are still opportunities to get on good equipment.

I would love to know the actual dollars spent by these teams for the disposable 250 engines.

250 class should be stock.

Some simple rules could go a long way in leveling the playing field IMHO...... here are some of my ideas that go along with the current production rule.
1. Stock crank shaft
2. Stock valves, cam shaft and springs
3. Stock suspension tubes and sliders and shock body and shaft
4. Stock transmission gears and components

The three biggest areas of cost are valve train, transmission and suspension.

I laugh everytime I see a post like this.

It's not the bikes.

Look at Musquin and is it Roczen (sp?) in Europe. PC does those KXF's... why aren't they dominating?

You can spend $1200 and have a National level bike that will last all 12 rounds or whatever there are... or spend $4000 and have a bike that is as fast or faster than a PC bike.

Yes, it's true.

125 class has never been an equal playing field or fair. Why start now?

ProMXMom - It’s all about the budget. Budget allows you to hire the best riders, pay for the development of specialty parts and pallet loads of replacement parts (which are needed for a 250). The entry level or stepping stone class shouldn’t be more expensive than the premier class, but that is how it turned out.

mxb2 - Regal is in the 450 class for 2 reasons. 1) Kyle weighs around 185Ibs. 2)The cost of maintaining a competitive 250. As for Regal’s bike, cost is around $900 in suspension work (including the linkage) and $3,000 in motor work. By the way, it runs on pump gas.

Yea i thought Regal was a good choice for a ride when he did well at millville on a 08 crf450, i thought he did nt like the 09/10 crf way better on a 450 IMO What type of motor work is done for $3 g s I m a regal fan for sure i want to see him on a factory bike soon!

$5000 250 2stk would fix the problem for a lot of the guys that can't afford equal equipment or the cost of upkeep. I know, we've been down that road before.

The answer is simple. Make the lites a $10000 claiming race. Just like horse racing and some snowmobile racing. If you want the bike just pay the 10 grand and roll it away after the race.. That will level the playing field.

DC can't afford that. The Japanese OEM's already threatened him with the "we'll take our toys and go home" over the 250 2 stroke in the 250 class and even in the womens class. They would really shit a brick over a claiming rule. Makes me appreciate KTM more and more every day.

Having a limit on how much the bike could be tricked out would provide better equality. I think that's a good idea. The racing in that class is so close anyways, I can see where those Payton motors pay dividends.

If I remember correctly a Suzuki won the championship in the 250's. That doesn't really fit in with your theory. Right now factory Suzuki has no lites riders, but I bet Stroupe would be competetive if healthy.

4k and your bike is faster than pc? What planet are you on? I know you must be proud of your engines but give me a break. If it was that simple they should just fire all of their R&D people and hire you....
