Hey everyone,
I am having issues with my suspension on my CRF 250R 2024. I've tried everything to get the bike to be comfortable with the standard showa springs but it's just unobtainable π I'm a 5ft, 73kg woman rider and honestly at the stage where I am thinking about buying new springs π΅βπ« I'm really trying not to buy new ones as over here they are extortionate. I was reading up about taking 5ml of oil out of the front forks but I don't really want to drop the forks to get the oil out. Has anyone tried to get the oil out the forks without dropping then down? I was looking at popping a wee pipe down the screw at the top but I'm not even sure taking the 5ml will be beneficial π
Any advice would honestly be super appreciated π
Thanks for reading and have a lovely day π₯°
P.s. I also have a youtube channel which shows me working on the bikes (I have 7 π, some classics too!) Im always after some help but also no pressure though if thats not your thing - https://www.youtube.com/@motoxmini

At 160 lb the stock springs should be good. What makes you think it needs to be softer?
You should be good with rear spring rate, itβs about right. Id guess you stiff in the front, I have a 23. Iβd guess you need, .44-.46 springs in the front. I think factory is .49. Run the RaceTech spring calculator and see what they recommend.
Call KAS Suspension, those guys know their stuff and carry all K Tech springs and parts in stock. Unfortunately, if it isnβt right then it isnβt right and you can spend hours chasing it when the help of a professional it could be sorted very quickly
Do you need softer springs or less compression damping?

Thank you all so much for your advice. I only seen all your replys after I took my front forks to a shop. The forks were topping out really bad, so the shop thinks that the wee springs might be crushed but are having a look at them to find out the issues π getting them re-valved too. I didn't realise they were topping out until a few days ago, I'm guessing they've been getting progressively worse as I was riding π
I'm just thankful that It wasn't just my riding that was at fault! Haha! Hopefully I can ride a little more comfortably with them all fixed π
Many thanks again for your help - Gillian π
Hope they get them sorted for you
First of all great choice on the bike. When you get the forks back slide them up 3-5mm in the clamps. Matt Walker helped me do this on my 16 crf and I haven't been able to feel comfortable on a bike without doing it since.
2024 to 2016 is a completely different bike.
I think you are on the right track with taking a few CCβs of oil out of each fork. It might be just enough of a difference for you and save some money!
and yet moving the forks up 3-5 mil still does the same thing.
OP said nothing about needing sharper turning or more weight bias on the front.
some riders bikes need the forks dropped for more stability. The fact you make a blanket statement itβs beneficial for all bikes tells everything.
Her suspension guy did not agree with you.
She had them re-valved...
Hey everyone, took the bike to the shop and the guy said - The nut on the base valve was loose and it had fatigue the metal as soon as I tightened the nut it broke ! It was actually really lucky as if it broke in the bike it would have made a big mess and cost a lot! (His words)
So quite lucky, that I got them fixed when I did π still thinking about buying springs for my weight I'm a 83.3kg with my gear on, so not sure if the standard showa will be enough π€ any advice on this would be fantastic too!!
Again thanks for all you're help everyone π
This is what Bud Racing recommend. Weight without gear
Just picking my CRF250R 2024 this saturday and I'm also 73kg, did you revalve your forks at the end?
