Can I just get your official opinion on Mike Alessi and everything associated with him? It would be good to know for when I want to respond to your weekly threads about the same thing.

That thing was dogging all over the track today...I heard countless random people talking about how slow it looked. It looked like a 250F out there. It's sad that if someone is to say anything pertaining to Alessi or the 350 in the slightest someone jumps all over you. Fact of the matter is...that thing got smoked today.

I don't see why a 350 2 stroke wouldn't be competitive with the 450's.

Probably just a bad tire selection

Does this mean Mike would have been winning on his old bike? Dungey's bike?

I doubt it, but, that would mean it's all about the Suzuki...

Everyone will be wanting a 350 after Stewart sweeps the SX series on one. KTM would be foolish not to give the James 12 million a year to race the SX series on one.

That thing needed about 17 to 1 compression with some 116 oxygenated fuel to get close. Don't know if there's a fuel like that but I know what it takes to get a drag race motor to get some life in it at that altitude.

They will be a great for the general public. It's going to be very costly for a professional rider to race one.

I just read in the RacerX race report he was working his way forward in the 2nd moto. Can't be too bad then. I also read yesterday Pit Beirer was there. I bet Mikey got another ass whipping from his boss after the first moto. The boy just needs proper motivation.

He went from waxing everyone not named RV while on the 450 to being a bottom of the top 10 (or worse) guy. He went from one of the best starters in the history of the sport to a guy who cant seem to get close now. And some of you idiots think it isnt the bike? The only fucking thing that has changed?!? Wow. Just because AC is quick on one doesnt mean Mikey will be. Mike on the RMZ 450 would be a podium guy every weekend.

Mikey has been a BIG surprise this season. Two things I never predicted: (1) Reed sucking hind titty like he has, and (2) Mike being totally off the map for the most part of this series so far. What a big turn around for Alessi - what the fuck happened?

They took a punt to try to gain a advantage over the competition by altering the size of the engine to make the bike easier to ride at the end of a hard moto when you are tired and cant hang on to a 450 anymore.

A smart dude called Sir Isaac Newton once said "for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction"

Mikey might have a advantage at the later part of the race but they forgot that he will have a disadvantage at the first part of the race noticeable the start.

Unfortunately for Mike the disadvantage out ways the advantage.

There is nothing wrong with Mike the only reason he is not dominating the field like he did before his crash last year is that
1 He is on a underpowered bike.
2 He is not getting the starts.
3 Fresh and fast competition this year Dungey Metty Ben etc

Wasn't Alessi top 5 off the start in both motos? The first moto he just went backwards.

Hey, maybe it isn't the bike for him. He made it sound like he could've ridden the 450 if he wanted to. I don't really notice a big difference in pulling power. I've seen him pass guys uphill, ect. The chassis and suspension doesn't look right to me, but what do I know?

There was never much doubt that, for a 350 to be really competitive, the track would have to favor it in some way and the bike would have to be set up perfectly, especially for the start.

A high altitude track with a long uphill start isn't a great track for a 350. And Mike Alessi has never had a reputation for being a bike setup guru. When they get to Washougal, watch Mike get good starts and do well overall. In the second moto particularly, he got out of the hole with everyone else only to watch them all disappear before they got to the first turn, even the privateers.

I said from the beginning that the 350 will probably be the best bike out there for a local rider - less tiring to ride, less intimidating, more fun. But I also said from the beginning that it would be a disadvantage overall at the absolute top level of the sport.

Mike got a good start. Mike beat 30 plus bikes to the first corner. Every start can't be a Holeshot Jay.

Mikes problems right now are not because of his bike.

They may be the bike, but, it may be the combination.

Didn't we get word from someone who knows a bit that Mike isn't very good at setting up the bike? Maybe his settings suck?

Everybody has been talking about how Alessi isn't healthy, but somehow you think his start shouldn't be affected?

I think the altitude has a larger affect on the 350 & Alessi had to be perfect to get the holeshot - he isn't. Every rider has to be perfect to get the holeshot against 30 of the top riders. 350 or 450.

As far as I can tell, the arguement has always been if the 350 would be competitive - I think it's a proven yes. Alessi has won on it, Cairoli has one on it & now a unhealthy Alessi is getting 5 to 10th place finishes against 30 rider fields - I'd say that's competitive.

Your arguement is as good as saying the Kawi sucks, because Reed isn't at the front. We all know that isn't true.

I think bike setup might really hindering him a lot at the moment. Remember the shock-dilemma a couple years ago on the 450 KTM?
History might repeat itself. Team Alessi is going their own way.

We all saw with our own eye's how bad Townley smoked Cairoli and what place has been been getting ?

You take two riders and give one less power and who is supposed to have an advantage ?

I think in an indoor flat stadium the 350 might be great if they can hire someone from Showa or KYB to help with set up.

Post a reply to: Did you see how bad that 350 got worked on the start ?
