"The helmet brand Airoh has managed to create a nice little buzz about this edition of the EICMA 2024, by announcing a press conference with James Stewart.
Yes, The James Stewart, the inventor of the scrub with fifty victories in US SX. It turns out that JS7 was ultimately unable to make it due to a health issue (not serious), but we were still able to hear him talk about his new deal as Airoh ambassador and distributor via videoconference.
It turns out that he was impressed by the quality of the helmet, “the equivalent of a Ferrari”, according to James, who has actually owned several. And above all, we will see him ride in public again, just for fun of course, thanks to this new commitment.
Just for this announcement, it was worth the trip! Airoh and Seven, James Stewart's brand, will develop a partnership that could lead to collaborations on helmets, to be continued!"
James Stewart has owned several Airoh helmets, or several Ferraris?
This was a surprise, Seems like Airoh is making a big push
Lol
Turns out Bubba had an eye problem. He just couldn’t see going to that press conference.

I fully support anything that will keep James engaged in the sport. Would love to see him on a bike again.
He posted this on Instagram a few days ago
I wonder if Bell getting sold had anything to do with this? Seven used Bell for helmets for several years.
Ugliest high end helmets in the game.
Funny that he still has those Kawi Green cabinets in his garage
I have worn Airohs for a long time, wouldn't use anything else. Great lids, super light, breathable.

Ferraris. He’s also owned at least 4 Lamborghini’s as well, dude likes his cars. Here’s an article from 2009, so it’s possible he’s gone through some more since then as well!
He apparently bought a brand new Ferrari F430 and Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera THE SAME DAY.
“It was an exciting day. I had to pick one up, then drive home and then come back and get the other one," he says. "I like it. I just wish it was a little faster. It's an everyday car. You can drive a Ferarri everyday. So it's pretty awesome. But if it was a little bit faster it would be a 10."

Many years ago I bought my wife a Ford Edge and then went back the same day and bought a F150. Kind of the same story….😂
I believe the part about him buying 2 of them on the same day, but I doubt that they were 'brand new'. Ferrari hasn't usually had new cars at their dealerships, they are all pre-ordered by customers. A lot of the inventory at their dealers are 'practically new', though!
I was told by a friend who has ordered a new Ferrari in the past that Ferrari won't take an order from you if you have owned a Lamborghini, so if a current or former Lambo owner wants a Ferrari, it's going to be pre-owned. Not sure how they could actually check to see past ownership like that, though, but it sounds like Ferrari does some crazy stuff and they still have people lined up to give them their money!
I bought a Fiat 500 1 day, the wife took it for a spin and loved it so I went back to the dealership and bought her one too!
Also the Fiats.....
You could have gotten a couple of these for less than what you probably paid for the scooters!!!! Just saw this this morning and unfortunately you have to live in Colorado to qualify at this dealership....
Sorry, this is so not true especially back then. Back in the Gallardo & F430 days you could walk into a dealership and purchase new and many had stock in house or could get it in a couple days from another dealership. And I definitely know quite a few people who own both Ferrari's and Lamborghini's who purchased them new. I had dinner 2 weeks ago with a business owner who pulled up to the Ferrari dealership in his SVJ to test drive a new SF-90 they called him about.....
You definitely have some hoops to jump through to purchase a new one now if you have no prior history with them, but not back then.
Wow, how is that even possible?
Pit Row
Yeah there are a lot of hoops to jump through to buy your first or second Ferrari same to sell. They do a full check of your life to make sure you can represent the brand before your approved to buy their car. Lol. Same when you sell. It's kinda wild you own a car but don't really own it. Especially for that amount of money.
I dunno, I seem to remember that Ferrari had a weird issue with wanting every car to be 'custom made' for quite some time. It looks like the average waitlist time for a 430 was around 18 months back in 2009/10, but maybe some dealers were able to get some exceptions. I know that just about any Ferrari dealers' inventory will only show pre-owned vehicles, but maybe they just don't list new ones for some reason.
I always thought that was the big issue with Steve Wynn losing his dealership, too. He sold his LaFerrari before he was supposed to. I always thought that a dealer should be able to sell anything they owned, but was told that Ferrari didn't transfer to dealers like most automakers, they only sent bespoke, pre-purchased cars. Could be wrong, I guess.
I do see a lot of 'pre-owned' cars with fewer than 500 miles on them in inventories, but it sure looks like those have to be considered pre-owned rather than new because the cars had to be sold to a customer first. Again, could be wrong.
The friend who did get to purchase a new Ferrari didn't get one of the more exclusive models, be got a Portofino. Sounded like that was all he was going to be allowed to order at that point because he had owned a pre-owned Ferrari, but never a new one. Now that he has purchased a new one, he 'might' be able to order a model higher up the chain, but I don't think he'll be doing that anytime soon. Sounds like the Portofino is just fine for him for a long time.
Okay, I’ll admit this type of stuff is way outside of my wheelhouse. I just assumed if he bought a 2008 model in 2008 from the dealer it would have been new. I have heard that stufff about Ferrari though so I don’t doubt you at all. Regardless, that was not a cheap day!
Definitely a different league from these current guys flexing their R8 when you compare it to Stew who also got an R8 + those on top of it in the same year. I just kinda laugh when people see the new R8 purchase from one of these top guys and people go “he needs to save that money!”
I think I remember a story of Ferrari getting pissed (and potentially suing?) because that EDM artist Deadmou5 wrapped his Ferrari in a different color than what they offered.
I'd definitely be satisfied with an R8!!!
I do wonder if most of the time when we see a rider with an exotic car if they are purchasing them or leasing them, though. Some of the cars might be really good investments, but I doubt that most are.
It'd be interesting to see how many different revenue sources a rider like Stewart had back in his prime, though. I would bet that there were some 6+ figure deals he had with entities that no one really caught on to even. At a certain point it probably felt like the money was just flowing in like a tidal wave. Sounds like he must have at least invested a pretty big chunk of it fairly well, though, so good for him in living life to the fullest!
I’ve always loved Airoh lids. The aggressive design is not for everyone
Sometimes you just have to have ownership history with Ferrari before they sell you a special car. I haven’t heard about refusing to sell you a car if you own Lamborghinis.
Ferrari is very particular about who has their cars and what they do to them. People have been threatened to be sued by Ferrari for modifications done to their own car.
They want to make sure you portray a good image for the brand, no unauthorized modification, nor abusing the car and also make sure you’re not just buying it to flip for profit.
How about those TV’s?!
Interesting because they never built them to comply with DOT which is why no US retailers have ever sold the brand.
Not a rich guy here, but a few years ago I treated myself to one of those exotic track day deals and drove an R8 back to back with a Ferrari F430. The Audi was pretty quick and definitely plush, but the F430, bone stock, seemed much more like a race car: it accelerated harder, shifts were snappier, and it just seemed more raw. I left thinking I couldn’t believe people actually drove those things on the street.
They pass euro standards. I believe they sponsor Musqin and Anderson as well.
Correct but they don’t pass (or haven’t been tested) DOT which has a penetration test. That adds weight to the shell so many brands make both versions. Every helmet sold in the US must pass DOT. On a lot of manufacturers site they will list weights for both DOT and non DOT models.

"Put a lid on it
So, what has this wayward journey through the five realms of Lid Land taught us? Well, for one, that safety ratings are far more complex than the stickers that represent them. It’s also safe to say that DOT approval is a good starting point, but if premium protection is your objective, then ECE, Snell, and FIM-certified helmets are a better bet.
Helmets not only come in all shapes and sizes, but also offer various levels of protection. What’s important is making an informed decision based on your needs. With a greater understanding of helmet safety standards, customers can do just that. So the next time you need to buy a helmet, you’ll have the answer to those crucial questions that arise."
