I'm considering the new bike. I come from religiously riding Honda and that's about it. I just recently moved and there is a triumph dealer literally 45 seconds from me and the temptation is growing. Looking for honest opinions on it thus far. Bonus points if I can find someone in the NE Ohio area with one
As I said in another post, I don’t know anyone that actually owns one, but the two dealers near me both have demo bikes they let anyone ride. You should ask your dealer if they have a demo you can ride. If they don’t, you need to find a better dealer. It seems like demo rides are a big part of Triumph’s marketing strategy.
I've raced along 2 Triumphs this season. We are in the +40 class MX, so whatever that is worth, they said they liked the Triumph, but wasn't as quick as their Hondas. They were hoping to get some ECU work done to hopefully liven it up some. They enjoyed the handling of the bike after some tinkering. I think overall they liked it, but wish it had some more power.
Stock bike ? Because it seems that on a dyno Triumph has almost +5HP compare to honda.
Yes stock, but Dyno numbers aren't "end all be all." Plus this is coming from 2 guys I race with. It could be completely different to you or I.

I have a 23 CRF250R and the 24 Triumph. Both are really fun bikes. The Honda power is more immediate, but flattens out and needs a shift. The Triumph reminds me a lot of the old KTM engine (i had a 2016 and 2019 250SXF). Very linear and likes to rev. IMO, the Honda corners better. The Triumph seems to need more adjustments (fork height, sag, clickers) track to track. Both bikes feel light, but the Triumph feels light and lively. The components on the Triumph are top notch. Listening to reviews on the 25 Honda 250 WE, that bike sounds like a big improvement from my 23 Honda.
You re right ...the power curve and how do you ride the bike IS almost more important. I Saïd that because every "official reviews" Said that the motor IS a "dream"

I've had a 21 Yz250f, 23 Honda 250 and now the Triumph. Personally even after riding a 25 Ktm 250, I think the Triumph is the best 250 out of the bunch. Power is solid, chassis is great and confidence inspiring, and you cant beat the KYB. It took a little bit of dialing in with the clickers, 101mm sag, and Dunlop mx34's but its now in a place where I don't need to touch anything or feel the need to upgrade parts like I did on my Honda and Yamaha. Multiple people have rode it and said the same.
I was speaking with a lad and his dad about the Triumph they were racing, turns out the lad was competing in the British Championship and as they had limited support, they had changed half way through the year from a CRF due to the maintenance needed to run it, from what I remember they were going through clutches often amongst other things needing attention. He said the overall package was better for him over the CRF.
Not sure what this guy is talking about but the dyno shows quite a dip in the curve that I would be very surprised if you could not feel. The bike makes the exact same peak HP as the Honda so it’s also down a bit compared to the fastest bikes in the class.@10K it’s down 7 HP to the Kawasaki.
Ping said the stock ECU is locked atm. There is 10 preset maps you can run through is what I heard. Idk much about mapping or if you could just put a Vortex or GET ECU on it and problem solved. Just quoting what Ping said on his Triumph 250 build video. I haven’t bought a EFI bike yet but will soon (Lord willing).
My opinion is it will take a big leap forward in it’s 2nd year, and the launch model is impressive but I don’t like 1st year bikes.
2025s are unchanged.
They get a new gear lever and some airbox modifications. Oh, and BNG
Pretty sure they get a updated ignition/kill switch also as the 2024 has had some issues. The shift lever needed to be updated. I installed another one (YZ 250F fits - KTM does not) and it is much better. I also believe it well get one tooth more at the rear.
I've been riding one for a bit now (8hrs). Great bike. For a first year bike they hit all the marks. Nothing really stands out as a negative that you'd usually get with a first year effort. For a 250f it has some nice bottom end, I find myself riding it in third a lot. It could use a little more over-rev but it's not too bad. The stock mapping is okay but I loaded the Akrapovic map (it's loaded on the Mx Tune app) and it's noticeably better throughout. Easy to do once you have the ecu link up (200 bucks). Load Mx Tune Pro app on your phone and it lets you communicate with your phone (and monitor maintenance etc.). I added one tooth to the rear just to pull third a little sooner. This bike handles and turns well. Suspension is good for 175lb guy. I let some friends ride it, some of them were way north of 175 but they all were impressed. Anyway, great bike that should be competitive with anything on the market.
I logged 3 laps on the Triumph TF250 this weekend at the Great Escape Grand Prix put on by the DMXS guys. Coming off my stock '18 Husky 350 just moments before, I was really impressed with the Triumph's aluminum frame and suspension package. My husky 350 was breaking loose and sliding out in every corner, whereas the TF250 tracked wherever I wanted. The engine/weight didn't feel all that different, but the suspension felt much more planted.. One of the 4 demo bikes had a bog and electrical issue, so there's still some kinks to iron out, but overall, very impressed.

Come on...last year(s) Yz250f never won a shootout in Italy, France, Germany, spain and a bunch off other US shootout ! This motor is "the king of the 250 category" ? He has almost the weakest power curve of any other bike !
Also first time i ear that triumph has the best motor and best low end with yamaha......First dyno run of the triumph almost put it on par with Honda at peak, and below all bike at low end.

OP was asking about the Triumph so I thought I'd link this to provide some info, take it or leave it. Sorry it pissed you off...lol.
Have you ridden the Triumph? It does have some good bottom end for a 250f. It also handles great. I can see why the testers liked it.
I guess my only reservation is buying a 1st generation bike. Even though Triumph is far from new to motorcycles, I would hold off, personally. But I wouldn't buy a 1st generation truck either, so that's just me I guess.
With very few exceptions it has been my observation the last year of a model is generally the most problem free and refined. I am not just talking MX bikes..
P-2 in this shootout, with a couple guys rating it 1st.

I would wait until the 2nd year bikes roll out. Better safe than sorry.
Went to my local Triumph dealer today and found out that not every Triumph dealer deals in these bikes. It is a separate franchise and not every dealer bought into it.
Does that mean they won’t be discounting bikes?
I read somewhere on here that Triumph wanted sales floor and service shop improvements for some dealerships to be allowed to stock them. Some dealers didn’t want to or didn’t feel it was worth investing the money just yet for the off-road lineup. I suppose that’s pretty nice of Triumph corporate to not shove mx bikes down their dealers’ throats in an attempt to move inventory
My dealer said that Triumph told dealers that in order to stock any of the motocross line they had to drop 25k on the displays and a whole big package. But if they didn't spend the 25k on it, they wouldn't get any. So it was a catch 22 that gave dealers options, which is actually kinda nice and considerate
