who were the top socal 100cc cc experts in the 70's? were the 80cc riders like myerscough,holley,ect.way too big for their bikes when they moved up?

The ones I remember from Carlsbad in the '73 - '74 time frame are: Corky Moore (won the high school Superbowl of MX), Mike Johnson, John Moyer, Tony Gomez, Gary Fukada, Danny Dilkey and me. We had some great races at Southbay Speedway (near Chula Vista), Carlsbad, and OCIR. There was also a guy who was the son of the lady that ran S&S races at Carlsbad on Saturday's, who rode a Penton. He was very fast, but was getting out of it just as I was coming up.

John Smith, who was also on the Carlsbad Raceway Team, won the 125 class. Corky Moore won the 100 class. It was the 1975 season, if my memory is correct. I'm pretty sure Corky was on a 1974 TM100 engine stuck into a 1975 RM125 frame. It was the first time he beat me in about 2 years, and I think the last time I raced against him as my family moved to Texas. John was a heck of a rider. The Carlsbad Raceway Team had a lot of good riders pass through (I am glad I still have my CRT jersey). The guys that were on the team when I was there were: John Smith, Terry Turner, David Gerig, Ralph Longo, Corky Moore, Rod and Mark Guinto. There was also a guy named Danny Doss, I think, but he hung around Rolf Tibblin more. He was good in the 250 class. I saw David at a few nationals in 1979 through 1981.

Don't remember there being a 100cc class that day, but that was a hell of a long time ago. you left one guy of the CRT list, "Radical" Ron Turner

You are right. Ron Turner was on the team, but that was after we had moved to Texas. John Owens was also on CRT when I was there. He moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico to work in the potash mines. He was a good open class rider. I saw him at west Texas races up until about 1980. Nancy Moore (Corky's mom) ran the team when I was there. I have heard David Gerig is a minister / pastor in Encinitas. Haven't heard anything about the others.

You don't want to know about Donny Moore "aka" Corky Moore he was racing vintage in so cal about 10 yrs ago and was up to no good.A fast rider I hope he got his act together but I doubt it.

Kline was definitely badass for sure. Seems he won everything in sight on the 100's.

And the SoCal'ers having High School MX, I thought while I was in High school, I hope they have that up here.

Danny Doss....I was thinking of a guy named Danny Dennis. I recall Doss, Gerig, T Turner and Moore...
Bobby, wasn't Ben Crocco a 100cc guy? Veerkamp? Crocco sticks in my head and Cloyse Holland Jr. as well. Seems Doss rode up here in NorCal for a bit.

Corki Moore is my brother and I need to set some of you straight. Corki won the FIRST SUPERBOWL of MOTOCROSS at the LA Staudium on a 125 Suzuki. He later that day, had a camera strapped to his helmet to film the start of the open class. He beat them off the line, so they had to re-start. I was there.

Corki has had some real difficulties in his life, chosen and unchosen, and I haven't seen nor heard from him in years, which breaks my heart. He was my best friend. If anyone knows where he is - last in Eugene, OR., I'd love to know.

If you knew my mom, Nancee, you'd also know she also ran the Husquavarna (sp)School of Motocross under Rolf. And talk about a dedicated Pit Tootsie!

moore was a staple of socal moto in the smaller classes...bad mufucker.

greg toyama was a helluva 100cc rider and prett good 125 rider too

When I started racing in 1981 the 100cc class was almost gone...but there was a guy who was super fast and always wore orange gear. I think his name was Jerry Anchor...

how about danny laporte and bruce macdougal at baymare. I think laporte was on a 100cc penton and macdougal was riding a yamaha 90 or 100. I'm pretty sure it was 1971.

Can some one reply on how a 80cc motorcycle became a 105cc? I want to know what modifications were done in the 70's because i can not remeber.

I had a friend, that had a 125 elsinore, sleeved down to a 100, in a C and J frame mini elsinore, he was a bad ass rider, that beat quite a few named riders from later on in the super mini class , and this was in the mid to later 70s, and JWRP made a mini elsinore for sale, for the super mini class.during the 70s.

So the sleeve in the cylinder was changed and i assume the piston size dropped. Did the stoke change also?

I thought Marty Smith won the High School 125 Expert class at the Coliseum. I crashed hard in the whoops and ended my day... those days were so good! Sorry to hear that about Corky. Best regards!

Pit tootsie I raced with corky and also lived just around the corner from you. My brother, mike Musson raced against corky that year at the coliseum. Mike one the first moot and seized his engine in the second. That was also the first time I met roger de coster. Was your mom announcing that race? I also had his helmet from that race for his third place finish. Hurricane Katrina took it from me

Corki moore is alive and well in oregon.. have 5grandkids, and love spending time with them. ... sorry to whoever I offended or did wrong to. My life did spin out of control for years.... but im sober now and miss everyone from the 70's-80's racing days... we had the best of moto-x times in so-cal.

Corki Moore lives ? That's good to hear. I was on the Carlsbad raceway team and rode and hung out with Corki, we had good times. Glad to hear from Corki and hope he connected with his sister. I Terry Turner am living in Oceanside and still ride. I also work in Surgery at 2 hospitals in La Jolla & Poway. Ride it like you stole it ! When in doubt gas it !!!

I remember Corky very well. Lived near the 300+ acres in Carlsbad. Corky, Dean Isley and others including me rode motocross all the time. Corky would not remember me. I know he loved bikes and racing and was very good! I have always wondered what happened to him and hope he did not give up his passion. Many years ago heard a news report Corky was injured in a race and have no idea if true.
