As an Aussie at 3am who's been screaming at his TV for the last 35 minutes you have to tip your hat to team USA for that performance, after all the hoohaa about Deegan not going, Tomac maybe not going, maybe not even sending a team, those 3 guys showed up and put it together better than all the European nations on a track that the USA guys only ride once every 5 to 10 years.

I was more than a little bit heartbroken hearing him say that.
There are literally a bunch of other ways to state it's a fucked situation, but give up isn't what I want to hear from the guy who has championed that event more than anyone.
Think it's time for RD to move on, cause look what happened when they went in a scramble. If it was Coop, Chase, and Eli I don't think i'm sitting here so happily right now.
2nd is an incredible result all things considered! Absolutely stacked field and Tomac only recently back racing, with Cooper hopping on the 250 after all these years of riding a 450.

They did great! Eli & AP finished where I thought they would. I also think if Webb had another week or 2 on that 250 and not try to ride it like a 450, his results may have improved some.

Totally agreed. This race was by far better than everyone expected. Jett was hypersonic as usual and was smart for the overall, but Gajser was awesome. Like GrapeApe said, AP kept up to speed and on two wheels. Eli was going for the win. That was good 👍
or just stop bitching about the own rider is the weak part of the team while finishing both races in top 10....great job captain America AP 👍
The biggest thing for me with Team USA is in the way they rode.
For yrs now there's been a building sense that when the track is anything other than a deeper loam the Americans struggle. Iv'e promoted that idea myself because it's often (though certainly not always: Barcia 2nd moto Lommel 2012, Justin Cooper Netherlands 2019, Jason Anderson Maggiora 2016 etc) what I'd see... But I really think that's barely the case now.
In fact you can use Matterley itself as a comparison between 2017 and today - where in the former they (the Americans) looked all at sea, basically just trying to survive the track, not really in it etc... To now, where there really isn't much if anything between them and the top GP guys that see this track almost every year. The 2nd today, a whisker away from 1st, is arguably more impressive (certainly to me) than winning round Red Bud a couple of yrs back. And if they have cracked the code then we could be starting to see a movement back toward the old pre-2012 powerhouse days. Idk, we'll see. It was a significant day imo.
They rode great! Full send from Eli, and strong rides from the other two. On a perfect day I think AP could probably beat some of the guys ahead of him both motos. But he was never going to be top 3 in any of his motos.
Sexton had the potential to go 1-1 on the day. Deegan maybe a top 5 in a moto. They will need that next year to win at home! This team as constructed this year, performed on the upper end of their potential. They should be proud!

Super impressed with Webster making a solid showing. Webb did an excellent job…on a 250!
And congrats to Team Australia - as just an old American 6o+ year MX fan, I kinda feel like I've "adopted" the Lawrence boys. And congrats to Webster too - well done gents! Was very happy to see them get to the top step. Good day for both the Aussies and the Americans, and that last moto....wow!
Pretty sure that USA over-performed in the most of us eyes and they should be really proud of that result.
I agree with a lot of what you are saying, but the MxDN is no longer indicative to the level of AMA racing for the most part. We haven’t had our A team race in Europe since 2011. This isint to make an excuse it’s just to point out the reality of the MxDN in this day and age.
2017 was another year where they slapped together a team last minute and Seelys bike broke both motos, Covington blew his knee out on Saturday and Zach O did fine.
Far to much gets read into these races that for the most part don’t lead to anything.

Controversial opinion: Tomac's results are better than what Sexton would have put up, should he have raced un-injured. Success at this event requires some traits that I feel Chase is yet to inherit, beyond his raw speed and ability, of course. Impossible to truly know though, I understand.
I was just thinking the same. I was so wrapped up in what Australia did. It kind of slipped through the cracks as to how well US did.
I am glad Deegan skipped it. If he was there 250 rider I doubt Australia grab that first victory.
Eli is still a beast and it is great to see. I dont think his beast mode is the same peak it once was. But between SMX and MX Des Nations he clearly still has a lot left in the tank. He will be mixing it up for wins in 2025. With a good start he has so much pace its going to be hard for anyone to run him down.
Really enjoyed this years event. Congrats to Team Australia. Really proud of Team USA, they put in a great performance and showed a lot of heart.
I agree regarding Tomac. Chase is a bad dude, but I don't think he would have done any better. Some of the best racing I've seen, such an amazing event!

Best race of the year. Australia deserved the win and I am pumped to be able to see them win their first one. USA underpromised and over delivered. So happy. Great weekend of racing. Who is the next country to get a first time win? Can’t see it happening for a long time.
I've never been a Webb fan but I love the way he stepped up and the text to Eli made me nod and say 'ok then' haha.. For a dude that I assume doesn't love a MX track and really hates to lose, to put himself in that position was incredible.. Maybe I've been wrong all these years haha
I won't say Tomac surprised me cause he's Eli Tomac but it was awesome to see.. Anyone thinking that AP wasn't gonna be needed dependable solid team member they're idiots haha

Same team for Ironman! Coop, Tomac, Plessinger… but add Sexton if one of those 3 want him in at their spots. That was a fuckin gritty team ride.
Deegs can watch from the benches. Hes not worthy yet.
