Just the other day I was perplexed at the alternatives for how to use the two nuts on the valve stem. I went with what Jay Clark suggested. Today, I ran across this video which is useful, and entertaining. His youtube videos are a goldmine of tech stuff.

Yeah, that guy has a lot of good tech stuff!
deeeeeeeeeez nuts!
I tear valve stems out all the time on my smaller bikes. I think I've been doing it wrong.
Replaced two tubes over the weekend and did the double nut (with space) way. I hope it works, sick of changing tires for no reason.
Try going way tighter on you rimlock or replacing it.
This is wild to me. I would be replacing tubes every other ride if I tightened the nuts to the rim. On a 450 they are always going to shift unless you replace tires every other ride. The better option is to just tighten one nut to the valve cap. Doesn't have to be more than hand tight. Keeping up with your rim lock helps too, stay away from cheap ones and go OEM or a reputable brand. Reputable does not include Tusk.

I was in between rim locks on one wheel, the other didn't have a rim lock.
This video did a good job of educating me on why you would take the different approaches with the nuts and things I was doing that I shouldn't be (like tightening down the nut on the outside of the rim real tight which seemed like a good idea before I watched this video)
D4A is great!
But the only right answer to this question is to buy the Bolt Honda style grommet kit and snug one nut up to the valve cover. Those grommets should be standard equipment for all dirt wheels.
I leave the one nut inside the rim and throw the 2nd one away. The same way the Austrian bikes come from the factory. There's no need for the 2nd nut. You definitely don't want to tighten it down to the rim and it performs no purpose if you run it up to the valve cap.
Even if you think it’s pointless to snug it up to the valve stem, it at least keeps the nut where you won’t have to go looking for one when you’re mounting tires.
Tusk also has the grommet kit. Do it the way Honda does it. Have the one nut tightened to the tube inside the rim and have the rubber grommet on the outside with the valve cap.
I'll keep the nut against the valve cap because when airing up a tube with no air sometimes it's a bit difficult to put the airline on and not push the valve stem inside the rim if there isn't a nut on it. I only had to have it happen once.
