Not sure if this is perfectly suited for silly season/mxgp rumours but didnt want to make a new topic for this.

I don't see any of the MX media reporting on it, but this weekend there was a multi-page article in the newspapers on the Frits van Eerd case (owner Jumbo). The story is about using Jumbo sponsorhip in MXGP as a scheme to launder money.  In it they explicititly name 2 EMX/GP team owners and it appears more teams are involved but not named in the article. Would that have any impact on the silly season?

Teams in 2023, which where all emx by that time: Hutten Yamaha (now Yamaha mx2), BT Husqvarna (closed their doors due Jumbo after 2023 season) and Riley (coming back after the issues with Jumbo)

I've read another really interesting article (behind a paywall from a newspaper). Things were happening for years, which are now investigated. Van Eerd was involved heavily into sponsoring Dutch teams; the authorities are questioning him and a few other individuals where the money came from and if laundering took place. The publicity is quite bad for our sport and motorsport in general, so I think you did a good job not creating a new topic about it.

After all, a lot of riders were helped financially by van Eerd and some of the named team owners - which resulted in most of them being a regular GP rider by now Smile Actually, a lot of Dutch athletes in several sports/disciplines were helped a lot by Jumbo sponsorship

I wondered why the Jumbo name disappeared from the Jumbo/Visma cycling team..!

And ice-skating team. In ice-skating they got Jutta Leerdam a real force on the 1000m and a social media phenomenon because she's hot as hell. She's now together with Jake Paul.

In Cycling they got TDF winners but also locally important figures such as Wout van Aert. Also cutting ties with Max Verstappen being a Dutch retailer is bloody stupid. They had 3 very popular people in their collars.

That they dumped MX and Frits his own Holland Racing team because of the money laundry and shady deals I understand. But dropping al sport sponsorship when you are still trying to grow in both the Dutch as Belgian market is stupid and makes all sponsorships look shady, not only from your own company but also from all other big companies who are sticking their neck out to support a Cycling team for example.

i dont really agree with that MXmatti, sponsorships with Verstappen and the cycling team are mainly international sponsorships where you pay big league money because of the international reach. Jumbo spend 12 million a year on the cycling team, which got 90+% of its exposure outside of the Netherlands and Belgium. And Jumbo only sells in those 2 countries.  It makes sense to spend that money more on local advertising and sponsorships (which was what the new CEO said would be the plan)

Obviously the main catalyst of it all was the case with the CEO (and owner) van Eerd, forcing him to retire as CEO, with him being a major sport enthousiast i would imagine those deals would have continued.

I can find myself in your conclusion, specially for the cycling team, but if you know that Van Eerd still payed the same price as the first day he started working with Max Verstappen, I once read that it was about 500k, then you know that was a bargain for one of the most popular Dutch sportsman. You could do so much around his person to boost the visitors in the shops.

But just to conclude Max has a lot to thank to HSF and Jumbo, two sponsors who also put tons of money in motocross.

I lived for 3½ months in Netherlands this summer, the first store i went to when i had to buy food supplies was Jumbo because of Jumbo-Visma. So sponsoring international sporting events/teams does also work.

Maximilian Spies is parting ways with Kosak KTM. Wonder what his options will be? Maybe Schmicker?

And it seems like they didn’t part on good terms since he is not even in Spain for the last MXGP. Maybe sixty seven racing team

Bonacorsi will finally ride for Fantic factory racing in 2025 (450cc), alongside Coldenhoff and Bogers.

There's a free spot on the Honda SR team for 2025. (Guillod will not ride for them anymore).

Who will be Horgmo's teammate? Forato? Haarup? Watson? Paturel? Toendel?

🤔

I saw somewhere that also Triumph now that the 450 is ready might at the end line up one 450 in mxgp. If that's true, I believe it will be Haarup. But im not so sure about it.

It's not a money issue for the team owner himself, but the budgets being 'promised' are not finalized yet. Remember that a few manufacturers f'ed him over a few times (Suzuki, KTM group), and that it seems like he is not willing to pay an extra(!) few hundred grand out of his own pocket again to make sure a guy has a ride next year.

Fortunately, we have a strong title sponsor with Standing Construct who has always provided us with what was necessary in terms of budget. However, in fact, having to work like that is not a healthy situation and not how it should be done if you want to work professionally. This year I have decided to wait until our partner(s) has made us a concrete, decent and final proposal, which unfortunately is the situation we are still in.

Its a shame about the age limit in mx2 because otherwise  the Japanese MX2 rider would have been an option for a Honda team. He was pretty impressive

Maybe MXGP class ?

JH comments after last round. I would take the 1st plane tomorrow and do the same thing. At MXON interview with GB and TS100 he mentioned look at this track (Matterley) compared to the last round of gp in Spain. Got to say even the riders are speaking out now at the quality of GP’s. Been really poor for years been saying it’s going down hill and this year I didn’t watch a single race.

Imo the worst part is that Spain got put on the calendar during the season as the seasons finale to make it a big Prado celebration.

The thinking is good (let's go to Prado country to build on the hype), but to finish your world championship at that track in that ambiance is exactly what is wrong with MXGP's marketing.

Jonass is 27, 28 in January, and I would imagine, a lot more expensive than Webster.

You think so? I would not be surprised if Jonass is riding for pennies and relies on own sponsors at this point in his career.
