All day long he has been trying way too hard to prove the GP's are superior. We have great racing all day and he is fixated on us vs. them. Jeez.

I like how adamant he was that Cairoli was "faking" with Alessi in moto one.

As opposed to not faking it and actually suffering from mechanical problems, I say that comment goes to Alessi´s favor

I agree, it really was a bit embarrassing. Malin isn't a great commentator (although it's clearly a tough job). He just talks too much, really obvious with Bailey helping out.

It was obvious that Cairoli was a better rider today. I was laughing as Malin was nearly argumentative with Tortelli and DB about wether it was a mechanical or wether Caroili was just so superior he was faking and messing with Mike. Only to be wrong.

"He's faking, he has don this before, he just wanted to see where Alessi was going" yada yada yada.....

Then in the second moto, again, Alessi passes Cairoli and it is because Cairoli let him.

Then he tries to put DB on the spot and says, "David, you saw Alessi last weekend and now seeing him this weekend....blah blah blah.

How about comparing Ben Townley last weekend and then absolutely checkin gout in the second moto? Does that mean the US nationals are better? NO. it means it was a different weekend with different circumstances.

Kudos to the races today, GP guys are impressively fast.

Malin uses too much of his experience in the commentary and that`s ok except it a little dated like Baileys. But Paul is there in the pits and does mix and talk to everyone involved.

Yeah agree, Maler was harping on a bit too much about it. Glad Alessi didn't win though or we really would NEVER hear the end of it from some of you guys ;-)

Thought Bailey was class today though!

I guess I didn´t really see it that way. I thought of it as getting a legends impression of a series most Americans like to bag on. Perhaps I´m a bit biased to, but that´s basically how I thought of it. But you have a valid point. Good thing tha last retard to comment the GP´s wasn´t behind the mic. He truly was dreadful! He was the guy commentating the 07 MXDN´s at Budds Creek. I used to turn the sound off back then

Sometimes i think Pauls a good comentator but sounded like he'd had too many redbulls today. DB is a class act though. Allways on the money.

Remember also that Paul is broadcasting to the GP world...not the host countries audience, that`s for the host nations media coverage and TV rights to caterer to the them

I'm confused, you came, I get that.

You conquered? Your own series? who did you conquer? One rider? Alessi? I think BT101 conquered the second moto LOL.

You go to France now. Got that.

I will say this, I am a bigger GP fan now after spending the day watching those motos.

It truly would be amazing to have ALL the world's best line up in a true clash of both series. Not a team race like MXDN but an individual race. We can dream...

Really?

I've watched all of the GPs except the last one. Typically that guy is by himself frantically talking for the entire motos.

I think having a color commentator like DB made this race much more tolerable, and I think he did a good job. He obviously knows the riders and the series much better than DB. I think he should look into getting a color analyst full time. It gets a bit tiring to listen to him when he is by himself non-stop talking.
5/30/2010 5:10pm
He certainly was an improvement over the last chap.

Shame we can't have Jack Burnicle - him and Bailey would be awesome!
5/30/2010 5:11pm
It was quite funny. Him and Bailey should of just got there cocks out and seen who was bigger. Bailey was making was to many excuses for Mike and Malin was becoming a bit embarrassing kissing ass

I heard it the same way. I think Malin was fishing for compliments from Bailey at times, but it wasn't THAT bad.

Man, he was practically begging Bailey to agree with him. It was comical at times. I didn't hear Bailey making any excuses, matter of fact I thought Bailey sidestepped the conversation quite well at times and didn't agree or disagree with Malin.

Hey, it should be expected. Low self esteem + inferiority complex = rediculous nationalism. You live close to Mexico. You know how it works. Smile

Yeah, Bailey was a touch of class on the mic today, very pragmatic!

Gimme a break.

That was nowhere near as nauseating as Cotter was on the mic at MXoN 2007.

Exactly - I think people tend to hear what they wanna hear. I agree that he was trying to goad DB into some dialogue about his views on the whole 'us vs them' thing which is surely the hot topic. You cant ignore it - that is why very fee americans bothered to turn up - that is why there is so much fuss surrounding the MXdN every year - and why this forum has been full of crazy talk in recent weeks.

Malin just wanted so open it up for debate, but spent too long trying to be diplomatic and just ended up digging around it.

Yep, sure is. He's a great commentator, knows all there is to know about the sport and says the right things at the right time. He's always enthusiastic too which makes it much more exciting.

I for one love Malin, I don't really need someone to scream out loud in excitement whenever someone is missing his visor on the helmet. However, I was face-palming pretty bad during the last moto here when it sounded like he was almost trying to make DB say something like "oh yeah, the GP's are way harder than the AMA Nationals." I expect that from people like, someone on these forums perhaps, not from Paul Malin. Of course, this might just have been the way it came out, he might not have meant it just like that.

Don't get me wrong here, I can see where he's coming from. Sometimes listening to Emig (who I'm a huge fan of, btw) during the AMA Nationals (or even the AMA Supercross races, though that's of less relevance in this matter) he often goes out of his way to say how "this series" (the AMA Nationals) is the toughest series in the world and the riders in it are the worlds fastest and blah-blah-blah.

No series can declare to be the premiere series unless we actually at some point in history get a TRUE world championship series for this sport. The two main series in this sport are pretty equal looking in my eyes. They are ran differently, but that's not the point. Speaking of riders, I don't see how you could give either series the "benefit" today.

We can bench race all we want and conclude who the best rider is (not series, rider, the other is just plain stupid), but usually when it comes down to a race things tend to go either way. They are really fast up front, and it's just a matter of who's having things go his way on any given day.

what happened to him? Where did he go as Euro Sport decided to be Snooker Sport?
Does he still commentate mx somewhere?

No idea, maybe he retired (although I doubt it).

He has been around for a while - i've got some pictures he took of my Dad in the 70's!

He still does stuff like trials, Le Touquet beach race etc, the more specialist stuff for Eurosport. His accent grates on me a bit to be honest.
