That was a magical ride from Shane that day. Remember watching it on tv. Would be cool to hear from Shane about that ride. Did they find something on the bike that day or just great starts and he found a flow.
Man that performance should feel like a kick in the balls for suzuki.. you rode a bike 1 day and performed better than on a bike you'd ridden all year!
What exactly was the main issue? Like specifically, technically, etc? I'm sure the common man like me couldn't make a kx450 go any faster than an rmz450, but just curious!
I just retired this past september with 33yrs TIS and 20yrs AFS and it’s a change of pace for sure… Congratulations on your retirement you deserve it! Make sure you take time off to decompress, take time for yourself, and spend time on yourself, be selfish about it! it’s been a wild ride nonstop with training, schools, deployments, CTC rotations and all of a sudden it stops! The phone doesn’t ring anymore, no late days or early mornings sitting around, no CUBs, BUBs, Staff meetings, meetings to prepare for the staff meetings, no more quad charts or CONOPS! I’m at 11 months out and finally feeling sorta “normal”
Have fun at the Dining Out, don’t be “that guy” and have too much grog and make an ass out of yourself (we have all done it!) 😂
Oh good luck in your next career, use the skill bridge program through the VA it’s pretty cool and I regret not using it!
I really appreciate your replies man! I just took 30 days of leave and spent a week in Breckinridge, CO. I tried to do a CSP/Skill bridge, but with me going through a MEB I couldn't do it. I got lucky and found a company that will be patient for my MEB results. I'm a 12P, Prime Power Production Specialist it was 21P when I first came in, 52E before my time. My job is for a company called Prime Power Services! Pretty sure there are some guys from my battalion there.
I made the mistake of having too much grog two years ago. I had knee replacement about a month before, and was still on pain meds. I had a walker with a bicycle horn on it, I was the most entertainment. Our battalion is pretty small, only about 300 of us in the Army, so we all know each other. I'm current operations in our battalion. So tired of CONOP's! We do disaster relief efforts for hurricanes and other power outages. Our BC falls directly under the Corps of Engineers.

Sorry for derailing your thread Shane! You had an amazing ride last week and will only get better.
Both Shane McElrath and Garrett Marchbanks were terminated over the two week break in the national motocross schedule.
I have a question.
I am assuming that being independent pro athlete contractors, Shane and Garrett had agreed to and signed contracts with their respective teams.
If that is the case, and assuming that neither man did anything to trigger a termination clause in their contracts, how can the teams that hired them violate the terms of a contract they agreed to by just terminating them without paying them out for the remainder of their contract?
Or are these riders, who literally risk their lives on team supplied equipment, on a race by race agreement with their teams?
I know that legal representation is expensive, but if the teams in question did indeed terminate contracts without cause, they caused these men financial damages.

I've always wondered how the contracts work as well. Same with how NFL teams can just cut someone who signed a contract.

It is because there are no rules in this sport when it comes to this stuff. It’s illegal in certain sports to even talk to another team when they’re under contract. Meanwhile, Bobby Regan is trying to hire riders in the pits at the other teams’ trucks. Welcome to the wild west of “professional” sports 😂

There is a long history of riders not getting paid by teams unfortunately.

So in what world if you have a contract and underperform per the contract and let go is it a crime ? That seems to be the problem with the world today as we know it. I have always been told in Texas that it's a right to work state. They can terminate you for the color of shirt you have on. Not saying it's right but it is what it is. Luckily for Shane and Garrett both landed on there feet and hit the ground running.

You kind of answered your own question I believe without realizing it. If they are independent contractors and felt a breach of contract happened then they would have to sue. Which rider to do you think is going to go through with this? Only the top elites would have the money, and the motivation to do so. Even then, it is a huge distraction and shows they are not easy to work with and won’t be hired after.
Whoever mentioned the Bobby Reagan trying to hire riders in the pits. That is completely normal from all teams. Star Yamaha doesn’t have to do much seeking out. The reputation is solid and the racers know the bikes are top notch. They reach out to the team unless Bobby wants someone specific.
Contracts have termination clauses and if one of the parties' actions (or in-actions) triggers the termination clause the contract can be voided. If the racer feels the termination wasn't justified he can sue for breach of contract, but with few exceptions suing would be throwing good money after bad.
More commonly both sides to a contract are done with one another and come to terms to mutually terminate the contract and move on.
Kudos to Shane for addressing this and not playing the victim card.

I'm not saying it was, but it sounds like there may have been a performance clause in his contract. In other words, if he didn't perform to their expectations, he could be terminated. Hard to say what 'good performance' would be for them - they could be like Ricky Bobby for all we know: if your not first, your last.
Is there a reason the team is on the prior gen bike? Have you compared the 23 and 24 kx450?
The 24 KX450 wasn’t released in time for testing, modifications and setup before for A1 so they went with the already proven design.
The team will be on the new version for 2025
