This just gives Deegan more benefit of the doubt about Star not wanting to send a team last year vs. him not wanting to go, although I believe there was a bit of influence on the decision from both sides.
Deegan not racing the MXoN is not where any of my personal criticisms about him come from though.

Yeah okay, I'm having a fuzzy memory of whether it was Deegan that didn't want to go because it wasn't a "winning team" or if it was Star that didn't want to after all that. Like I said, I have a feeling both parties weren't that interested if they knew they were taking a knife to a gun fight.
Lewis asked deegan about mxon in press day interviews this week and his entire answer was I need to see who else is going. Max said he wants to go but star and GB need to come to an agreement. If you can't see the difference between those two answers then I can't help you.
I've got none. Max has been going through some personal things with his child, so on top of the Star issues I dont blame him. He's a genuine dude and I'm glad he's racing here.

It's been explained over and over the reason Deegan gets criticised is because he was going on the podium and using patriotic rhetoric, which you would think meant he'd be first in line to represent his country..

Plenty of Americans have also backed out of the MXdN in recent years without drawing too much heat. The issue isn't that Deegan backed out, it's that he backed out after spending all summer playing up the patriotism. Aaron Plessinger does something similar, but he answers the call when asked. Deegan just seems so fake to me.
It all goes back to this (see pic). If Anstie had recently stood up on the podium and made hyper nationalist comments designed to shit on the Lawrences - then decided not to go the MXDN (for whatever reason) - he would have got shit. However, leaving that aside - and if we believe the whole reason for Deegan and now Anstie not going is Star Racing - perhaps we should start shitting all over Star Racing instead. I bet they're all about the USA in their attitudes and comments, just not when it comes to actually representing it. And no, I'm not anti-American. You can be anti-certain American individuals, institutions, and companies without being anti-the US. I think the USA is an incredible country. Star Racing on the other hand is suspect.
Can one of the moto 'journalists' find out what Star is charging and for what - broken down item by item? Then we can more fairly appraise the situation.
Matthes clearly said the Deegans didn't want to go unless they could win. A couple of weeks later others started reporting Star didn't want to go for the same reason. In both cases it was not patriotic behaviour.

Knowing Anstie and the history of Team GB and the history of star, I suspect the blame should be squarely pointed at Star Racing. It's clear they have a reputation for cunty behaviour.
They want over 3 times the budget that ACU had. Sure they can probably, maybe find more money through fund raisers but this screams yet again US teams doing the MXdN in the most expensive and difficult way.
He could easily source a YZ in the UK to ride but I'm guessing that his contract says he can only ride a Star bike.
