1981 Kawasaki SR250. When Kawi debuted this bike at the end of 1980 it was really exotic considering almost every bike was air cooled, had drum brakes and dual shocks.

I like that one as well, especially since it's in my garage now! Lots of trick bits you don't see on the "works" bikes today. Billet forks, cast magnesium hubs, hollow welded triples, hand built frames and swingarms, high and low speed dampening before anyone else had it, alloy high cap. fuel tanks, water cooling before it was production and best of all Kawasaki engineers telling Howerton they could get 80 h.p. out of it if he needed it.

I borrowed a certain someone's PC tuned Sybian to create the following list of cool factory bikes. It's only for post-production rule bikes because, lets face it, anything before that pretty much trumps anything from today for a coolness factor.

1. Jeremy McGrath's CR250 from 2007 when he finished on the podium in Pheonix
2. Travis Pastrana's RM125 from 1999 when he won the championship
3. Doug Henry's YZ400F prototype
4. Cairoli's 350
5. Villopoto's SR450
6. Anything by Pro Circuit in the last 3 years
7. TLD supermoto 450
8. 2010 Aprillia 450
9. Dungey's 450
10. JGR 450s


I know, I know, I was surprised by the results as well. All late model Honda and Factory Yamahas were excluded because they are too stock looking.

I dont have any photos to share, but I have seen that bike completely dissembled. The cases, the barrel were works of machinist art. The shock was amazing.The expansion chamber was freaking fantastic. It was the little things like the seat foam was from an XR600 shaped to fit the CR and the tail pipe. WOW. Hand laid carbon and kevlar. From the hand billet pinch bolts holding the axle to the billet axle stays. Wow. I would have to say that is a favorite. The 450 was nice, but minus the handy work. Maybe the pure mag carb. That was neat. Im told that bike pulled like a thumper. From bottom to top, smooth as a baby's ass.

I used to like the yamaha of troy YZ125s of 1998-1999

Also loved the team FMF Honda CR125s of 1999 as well, they also did a white one for the nationals that looked amazing.

Another one i liked was Buddy Antunez's Arenacross RMs in i think 2004 if i remember clearly

Some things you just can't get out of your system. Like a super trick Moto-X Fox team race bike of Pat Richter that you saw in a magazine as a kid. Thirty years later you start collecting all the right stuff and tracking down the right people and suppliers to make it all happen. Guy B shot this one at the Houston SX. The sister bike from the Fox team that year is right behind it, a replica of what Steve Wise raced in 77.

I remember thinkg Lammy's 2000 cr 125 looked like the sickest bike ide ever seen. Maybe it was the lime green pinstripes around the plate, Or maybe because i had the same turd bike. I cant find any good pics, but the whole scheme that year was pretty fresh looking. W/ the fin on the helmet and all.

Alllllllllllllllll that work to a beautiful bike he'll never ride.....nor do I think it will ever be ridden....what a shame that is a full on factory bike head to toe with the suspension not just a stock bike cosmetically done up......wish SOMEONE would try to race it!! Seems like a waste of funds to build something like that beauty just to show it ......hey Kawi how about hiring a rider to actually RIDE the bike?
