What he said....

JS7 is THE fastest man on a dirt bike...when he wants to be. Period.

You guys who are comparing Bubba's wrist injury to Rick Johnson's wrist injury are a little off. RJ broke his right wrist and ended up getting it fused up a little bit. Bubba broke his left wrist (according to the awesome TWMX video) and even if he had that wrist completely fused, he would still win every race he wanted to.
Left wrist? Really?

Hey ridge, your a little off. Do not confuse opinions with facts. If you break a wrist and have it fused it is next to impossible to hold on. Saying he would still win means nothing more to me than you pulling another one of his pubic hairs out of your teeth.
I'm going to take a wild guess and say Ridge might know just a little bit more than you about what you can and cant do on a bike after a serious injury.

Well Torco, I understand he's seen a lot. I have been through my fair share. Mostly wrist injuries. You were right by saying your guessing. Like I said it was an opinion and not fact. I understand riding with a fused wrist and holding on, but not winning. This comes from experience which you were referring to.

James is going down a pretty scary path. A lot of his fans seem to be taking a shit on him. I love to watch the guy ride but he is after thought to me when I think about motocross right now. '

I think he needs to take a drink of reality before he learns the hard way. Sooner or later the ass kissing line is going down to zero.

There is a difference between racing locally and losing a little something when you hurt yourself and know you have to go back to your job on Monday as opposed to being one of the fastest guys to ever race motorcycles, hurting yourself and having the best doctors and medical technology money can buy. I'm not doubting that you injured your wrist and it made riding more difficult, but I think we should wait and see what the outcome of Stewarts injury is before we write him off. I'm not even really a Stewart fan, I just think people are jumping the gun a little on this. Isnt it avascular necrosis that is the main problem when it comes to that injury and what leads to fusing it?

Does anyone have any info on 7 and his plans for the summer?

That's true, I'm sure all injuries are the same.

And your riding is similar to his.

I agree, the bandwagon is way too full. I don't wish ill thoughts on the man, nor do I feel like he will be slow. The first thing I said was its the same injury as RJ's. Followed by I hope the surgeons are better, I would like to see him out there. Yes, it is avascular necrosis. When you fuse a wrist you combine ligaments for stability and lose movement that therapy can not correct.

Wrong, it ended last year. This year it was true in the ONE out of 2 races he finished without crashing.

This injury could very well be a career ending injury - hopefully it will not be.

A wrist injury is never straight-forward. Its not just the (many) bones that are of concern. There are ligaments, tendons, nerves, blood vessels, etc all within a tight space in the wrist that could be potentially damaged. Given this the spectrum for the degree of return to prior function is very wide.....no two injuries will be identical.

Add in surgery and you further damage the tissues in the area. Surgery is certainly not without its risks and no matter how good the surgeon is (translation: how much the surgeon is payed) the risk of additional albeit non-intentional injury remains.

For the sake of extending his career, so that we can watch him for many seasons to come, taking this season off could be James' best option.

I'm all too familiar with avascular necrosis, I had it in my right hip after breaking it and at the old age of 27 had to have a total hip replacement. I broke my left ankle twice (all three bones) and have avascular necrosis in my ankle joint. They want to fuse it now but I'm only 34 and want to try and get as many years out of it as I can. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens with James....hopefully he races again.

James could quit right now spend all his cash and assets and still come back and race some local MX and make a better living that most on here. Fucking morons(you know who you are).

I think he is smart to make sure he is healed up all the way before he races again. I thought Short was coming back too soon but he proved he was healed all the way and healthy. It's called being a professional.

Maybe this guy could help Stewie......

5/13/2010 8:23pm
You guys are some pretty big a-holes calling him out.

You say that he needs to ride the nationals or his career will not be remembered as well, yet he is taking all the necessary precautions to let it heal completely so that his career will last longer.

You say you want to watch him race because it makes the nationals more enjoyable, yet most of you would be cheering for anyone else who can give him a challenge outdoors. If he wins, it's boring because its expected. If anyone makes it a race, most people will be cheering for the other guy to take it to Stewart. Even after going 24-0 in his last season outdoors, he can't win.

Just let him be already.

Has-been...it sounds like you may be describing your future posting career here? Smile

I've heard a few times that they're waiting on doctor's clearance to ride...and it's being slow to heal. It's not one of those things that you can stare at and say, "Heal faster!" Maybe you could go the faith healer route, or pay some doctor enough to tell you exactly what you want to hear ("Yep, it's healed...go for it! Oh, oops...you mean it wasn't really healed? Sorry!"), and shorten your career.

As for some of the nonsense in this thread? It might be time to start declaring open season on dumb. You guys know how I hate the off-season. Smile

I was down on him after the first Bubba's World, but after watching all of the episodes I've become an even bigger fan. The guy had no childhood. His entire life from day one has been spent on a motorcycle. So what if he wants to take some time and blow off some steam? Eric Sorby said they did more in the weekend they spent in Orlando than James has done in his entire life combined. He doesn't owe anyone anything. And I haven't really seen a whole lot of people bash Reed or Windham for taking all that time off outdoors. And nobody is bagging on RV after he's crashed himself out of two straight title fights.

And anyone who thinks Stewart is a has been is kidding themselves.
People (including me) bashed CR when he didn't ride outdoors. And KW was way past his prime and just trying to extend his career when he stopped riding outdoors. KW is a totally different story. If JS raced outdoors for 10 years and then decided to extend his career by skipping them I think everyone would be fine with that.

Anybody that doesn't think JS is a has been is kidding themselves.
