From My wife's Hater camp....

Republicans want to eliminate S.S. by 2033 , it is set to run out of money by 2034 ?

I have been paying into it my entire life with alot of O.T. , as it sits now in 5 years ill get 3,000 a month ( I am sure I'll need it )

What's this B.S. it's going out the window if the Republicans get there way ?

It’s all bark. Something like that would never be done. If anything they’ll tighten the people who qualify or something like that

The Dems are very desperate…they need the senior vote, so float some fake news about the republicans canceling social security. 🤦‍♂️

Look, you have to plan for your own retirement. Social Security would be nice, but I'm not counting on it. Am I mad that I've paid into it my whole life and likely won't get paid? Yeah, but I consider it a way I can support my parents by paying into the fund. And when they pass, I'll get an inheritance that is stronger because they got that much extra every month.

Sometimes you just have to laugh and look at the world through rose colored glasses.

Recycled campaign material since SS inception along with Republicans want to pollute our water and air, and poison our kids. Good God, are people never tired of this recycled shit?

I know it sucks that you are forced to pay into something rather than invest that money yourself.

I was told that ( SS is going bankrupt) when I was very young, My Uncles and educators kept drilling that into my head to work hard and plan on retirement because SS isn't going to be there by the time I retire.

Guess what?, I'm retired (From my job) and Collect my Pension, retirement, and SS.

IMO

It's a good thing to tell young ones not to rely on SS just so they work hard and plan on a good retirement.

Social Security is theft of our future prosperity, plain and simple.  I shouldn’t be forced to pay into a government sponsored saving account with zero yield just to fund someone else’s retirement who didn’t plan accordingly and bail them out.  Everyone likes to pretend that FDRs “New Deal” was a positive turning point in US history but the reality is that it’s bankrupting this country and was a terrible idea even at inception.  Social Security will never go away because it would be political suicide to do so, but I should at the very least be able to borrow against my future payouts now and invest the money myself rather than get trapped in a government ponzie scheme.

Does anyone realize that the interest on the deficit is approaching a TRILLION dollars. According to Jeffery Gundlach CEO of  Doubleline Capital the Treasury debt is very worrisome. Over the next 3 years $17 Trillion in treasuries will be refinanced at higher rates. He believes the next President might not have to deal with it but 2028 it will be front and center. 27:40 time frame.

SS has an input/output problem, but it wouldn't "run out" if it can't keep up, it would just lead to a reduction of benefits.

We send more money to Ukraine than Ukraine or Russia spend on their own war combined, we dump billions into shithole countries for them to turn around and light cash on fire in the middle of the desert, and we funnel money into programs that put cots and soup in warehouses for junkies to come down when their dealer decides he doesn’t want to deal with the hassle of laundering EBT cards into cash. But suuuuuuuuure, government retirement is where the bad republicans want to look to balance the budget.

Get real or get fucked. Doth both—I don’t really care.

Realistically what you pay into social security is not for you to retire, it is to pay current beneficiaries. It is not like the Feds have a big bank account or Scrooge McDuck vault they stash your money in. And I am fine with that. I paid for public schools, yet my kids went to private schools, I pay for prisons, never used one, pay for the military, and I can't think of too many conflicts we have been in that were justified. Social security was not introduced to be a retirement fund, it was always meant to be just a supplement. Somebody who is 60-65 has had 40-50 years of working life to save for retirement and prepare, if they haven't saved for it, they are always hiring greeters at WalMart. Sometimes life is tough shit, especially if you do not prepare for inevitabilities. This whole my money deal is bullshit; it is not your money even if you feel you earned it. Nothing is yours, except your attitude, your government has access to anything of yours they wish to take. The fed can take any income you earn through taxes, fines, or fees, they can take your home through force, even going as far as taking your children to kill or be killed in a place they never heard of. Social security is the epitome of trading liberty for safety, and it is a tax on the poor. How naive, the government isn't fair, no shit. The problem isn't social security it is an overreaching government. I am 59.

Hmmmm…

I’ve got to make the 62/65/67 decision soon…& my problem is compounded by increased earnings as I approach one of those ages/dates…and I’m increasing my SS payments with each and every year due to increased earnings/contributions.

Life..:it’s so complicated.
