For 3rd overall , what’s the worst score you have seen get a podium ?

Didn't someone go like 7-6 (or maybe 5-4) and get a podium a few years ago?

The strangest non-podium I've seen was Forkner a few years ago. I can't remember how it happened, but he went 3-3 and missed the overall podium.

I’m actually a Sexton fan. I’m sure Chase would agree to some point. Chase has already exceeded everyone’s expectations so far. Shimoda though? Mmm, not so much.

Ramsey earned 3rd overall at Glen Helen in 2004 with an 11-4. This was the race where Stewart switched to the 4-stroke after racing the KX125 all season.

Remind me again how an 11-4 beats a 9-5?  I know it has something to do with moto points.  Serious question.

Didn't remember Ramsey going 11-4 for 3rd overall, that's a good one and probably the lowest point total (28 points).  I remember two other close ones from the 2001 season, Huffman 3rd overall with 29 points, Rodrig Thain 3rd overall with 30 points.

Side note:  I went 9-1 in the beginner class for a 3rd overall decades ago.  The first time I won a moto.

It is a tie points-wise but the better 2nd moto score gave Nate P3

Both of those scores would total 28 points.  If it is a tie between two scores the better finish in the second moto breaks the tie and that rider scores higher overall.  11th = 10 points, 4th - 18 points (28 total).  9th = 12 points; 5th = 16 points (28 total).  The 4th place versus the 5th place in the second moto makes that score better overall.

Southwick 09 - most random podium ever?

Goerke 6-1 | 1

Byrne 3-3 | 2

Dowd 10-2 | 3

A rider that actually raced at Soutwick, Gert Krestinov from Estonia, got his only GP overall win with an 8-1 back at Lommel in 2008.  It was a big upset, he was 17th in the championship that year.

Interesting note: if that '04 Glen Helen race would have been held in 2024, though, Ramsey would have only earned 5th overall.  With the new points system, both Kelly Smith and Danny Smith would have scored 29 points each, since all the 5th-21st place positions earn 1 additional point.

I don't remember the exact year but I'm sure Rattray won a GP with a 7-2 or something crazy like that many years ago.

2-2 for the win,
4-1 for 2nd,
1-4 for 3rd.

All three scores beat a 3-3.

Yoshihide Fukadome 26th place. Just thought it was a kick butt name.

I went 5-3 for first overall once. No idea how I managed that.
