3rd + 5th = 37 Points
1st + 9th = 38 Points
EDIT: btw with the 2023 points system the gap/result wouldve been the same, just with less Points:
3rd + 5th = 36 Points
1st + 9th = 37 Points
Points calculation not Olympic.
1st - 25 pts 9th- 13pts

'Cause your way smarter than us 🤷♂️
A post limiter function would be beneficial for some members on this site.
You don't need a "post limiter function" for that. There's some posts I choose not to read and scroll to the next one. You're free Willy! 🐳
I often speculate what it would be like if they went back to the Olympic system for the overall finish and awarded points based on the overall instead of individual motos. I never completely understood the logic that changed it to what we have now.

See what I mean 🤓
lol
Olympic scoring creates a format where a rider sometimes would have no incentive to continue fighting to gain positions if they won't score additional points for doing so.
Much like the third race in the SX Triple Crown Format.
It doesn't. But it does show how stupid the points system is.
I like the way they have it set up now - it makes every single moto count. When points are strictly disbursed based on overall results, we see more riders phone it in during the second moto if certain race situations arise. It happens currently in triple crowns - a guy will win the first two mains and roll around in 3rd/4th, very obviously not trying. I think it makes for worse racing.
Edit: Just realized SpyGuy said the same thing I just did. Lol.
Because Shimoda won the 2nd moto of a pro national that’s freaking why. We saw RJ Hampshire go 11-1 before and still podium it happens.

ok folks... here's a tip

The way we score overalls hasn't changed since at least 2004.
Why are some of you making it sound like this has changed recently?
Well, maybe because it has indeed changed? No major changes at all, but still.

The world's a better place with you in it
Yes, the points structure has changed slightly, but it's always been the points sum of both motos that determines the overall and not Olympic scoring, which is what some are implying.
That can work both ways I do believe, That rider could just as easily need to move forward to get a better overall. My point is that the sport was founded on results of the two moto system and the cumulative effort of the motos being the deciding factor. In today's system the overall means much less in the grand scheme of things. As it is two guys can tie for first place points and I don't think that is right. The overall winner for the day should always walk away with the most points imho. Just my 2 cents
