So tragic to see a career ended and a family left behind... You'll be missed mate...
RIP
Andrew became our friends.
Andrew & Natalie became my families friends.
I was heavily involved in bringing him over to the USA.
I was at YOT at the time.
Andrew was a Champions Champion.
In each and every sense of the word.
Andrew was anal about everything.
I'm anal about everything.
At 1st, the 2 of us butted heads some, but the mutual respect was clear
as day.
We became good friends. The World Class racer I brought over here to
help front our team was more than just a great racer. He was organized, poised, and serious. He knew what he wanted. He was a great asset for us due to his testing skills as well. Friendly as hell too. Always willing to help the others too.
I'll never forget that speacial day at the '06 Hangtown Outdoor National when both our guys Andrew McFarlane and Brett Metcalfe climbed up on the podium. That was huge!
If you knew the story you'd know why, and Andrew was a huge part of that memorable day, a day that remains special to me still. I had a tear in my eyes that day!
I have tears in my eyes now too.
I'm heart broken, we're heart broken.
I was out walking my dogs when I got the call.
I called several mutual friends to see if it was so.
My whole families hearts go out to Natalie McFarlane and family.
I don't know what else to say. I'm numb.
I'm going to miss my down under friend. Andrew was real.
But I'll remember him well, cause that's how Andrew and family rolled.
I loved Andrew McFarlane.

RIP one of Australia's greatest ever and a great guy.
THE man killed in a horror motocross accident north of Melbourne has been identified as one of Australia's most talented riders in the dare-devil sport. Queenslander Andrew McFarlane died this morning after landing hard in a practice lap during the third round of the 2010 Australian Motocross Championship at Broadford. Motorcycling Australia chiefs have confirmed McFarlane's death and expressed their sympathy to his family. Leave your tribute to Andrew McFarlane below. Family and friends of the 33-year-old watched in horror as the veteran rider became airborne and landed incorrectly during a practice lap. Frantic efforts by paramedics could not revive McFarlane who died at the scene just after 9.30am. "He has come off his bike, we are not sure exactly how at this stage,'' Rural Ambulance spokesman John Mullen said. Start of sidebar. Skip to end of sidebar. "The young man suffered extensive head injuries and paramedics attempted to revive him for more than an hour.'' The Australian Motocross Championship has been cancelled. Shocked competitors took part in a ride of honour around the track shortly after the McFarlane's death. Known in motorcycling circles as "Sharky", McFarlane started riding at age 5. His father, Ron, served as his mechanic and is believed to have witnessed the crash. It is the second motocross-related death in Victoria this year. In January, a 21-year-old Mill Park man died after attempting a double jump at a specially designed track at Broadmeadows Motorcycle Park.
The helmets are basically the same, save for Carbon Fiber... but the padding, which helps, is basically the same...
Body Protection seems not to be used now... Neck Braces are there, but who knows what testing they have really had...
Me, I wear everything I can because I just ride for fun, and want to keep doing it, but there are no guarantees...
Sharky was one of the freindliest riders on the Aussie scene and will be dearly missed. I know the term 'legend' often gets tossed around too much but I can't think of a better word to describe Andrew at the moment.
Please don't turn this into a 'why did this happen' thread. Motocross is dangerous. We know that. Unfortunately this has happened in the past and, perhaps more unfortunately, it will happen again In the future at some stage. No amount of safety or bike changes will change the fact that motocross is dangerous. We know the risks and have to accept that. But that doesn't make this any easier to accept this tragic news.
R.I.P Sharky - you and Jono are gonna have some serious bench racing up there...
