With no Pro MX or GP races this weekend to get my racing fix I have been watching the New Hampshire NASCAR race.
1st interesting thing I have never heard of before is they started the race early due to incoming weather with a possibly of tornados. Smart move replacing the hour of talking bobble heads with racing!
When they show commercials they do it split screen so the live race is still being shown. Another brilliant move is NASCAR also has this paid for as paid sponsor.
They are also showing the playoff qualifying points live so we can all see the battle going on to get in. Another brilliant idea!
Our sport could use some new approaches like these!
The sad thing is that none of these are recent addition features to other forms of sports entertainment.
Another thing I have never heard before is they are broadcasting the live constant chatter a driver is hearing after a restart from the spotter.
Its been talked about Don't know if our racers could keep focus and concentration with that much chatter going on in their ear if that ever happened.
Also, NASCAR is working hard to recover from a number of missteps with their core fan base (not sure they ever will), so they're trying almost anything to make the experience more exciting/interesting and keep the attention of today's ADD viewer.
But all of these take more money to produce, and since it seems moto is something that pretty much has to pay to get air time, I'm not holding my breath waiting for a slicker production.
But Burton sounds like he’s taking hits of helium half the time…throw Jr in the booth with him and they sound the the chipmunks…

DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
With the $5 a month charge that we are all paying Peacock I suspect it is no longer being paid for by Feld or MXSports so that hurdle has finally been jumped.
Bringing in BIG $$$$$ Advertising is more than beneficial for all involved to cash in on.
But who's gonna pay big dollars to advertise on a small market sport like MX?
I saw where ESPN had college bowling on this weekend but MX fans have to pay to watch their sport. That ought to tell us something.
Because it is on a prime network.
NASCAR was cool when Dick Trickle had a cigarette lighter in his Stock Car and would smoke cigarettes when a yellow flag came out and flick the butt out the window before the green flag.
Now they have little segment races or something.
Not following you.
My point was ESPN alots air time for college bowling and has people that will pay for advertising during the broadcast but MX is only available if you pay for it... and you still have to watch ads. Maybe I'm completely out of the loop, but I wasn't aware the audience for college bowling on TV was more than about 4 or 5... people.
I don't see companies lining up to spend big ad money to reach all 312 MX viewers - of which 250 come on here and complain about the production... or the announcers... or what the announcers are wearing... or...
My ears hurt looking at the pics 🤕
That’s because those sports are paying ESPN to be broadcast on there (SX/MX used to pay also) but today NBC Peacock pays SX/MX a lot of money for the broadcast rights which in turn has allowed them to pay more to the riders.
So can the participants afford health insurance now
Gotcha.
Well, no wonder NBC is hurting.
I was not going to the Peacock is paying Feld and MXSports level yet but thought it definitely was a possibility or certainly close.
If it is true it certainly explains the moving SX race time slots for west coast rounds so more east coast would watch.
The sport 100% needs a huge positive spin and since SX has always been happening at a time of the year when nothing else in sports is going on its in place to go huge. Huge could also mean the players start making more in the process too.
I don't understand why people keep saying that they don't have to pay for ESPN.
You get it as a part of cable , just like Xfinity gives me Peacock for free as a part of my cable package. Its not free, its just included in the package You pay for.
There are still races shown on cable TV (CNBC and USA) , and regular NBC that people could get NBC for free after buying an HD antenna. A bunch of live moto's on NBC.
I'm guessing that NBC knew how many views they were getting and what it was worth them paying for it since they have had SX and MX on and off for years now. I doubt that SX/MX/SMX has anything to do with NBC not doing well. There is plenty of content that I'm sure costs them a lot more that is giving less of a return.
If they could take a little less for picture in picture adds, and then get another sponsor to make up that loss. That seems like it should be possible. Or maybe not and that is why they have not done it yet. But I would think that it would be financially possible . And It would make the broadcast better than totally cutting away to adds.
Depending on how the contracts are with their advertisers they may not be able to do something like this until those contracts expire without renegotiating them. I have never bought an add on TV. But whenever I've done print or online adds. I know what size the add will be, how much of a page it will take up. And pay more or less depending on the size and placement. If I paid for full page adds for a year, they would have to redo the contract if they wanted to reduce the adds size. I'm guessing TV adds are similar.
College basketball/march madness, nfl playoffs, nba regular season, plenty going on sports wise
Granted, almost no TV is free nowadays, but which is more common and has a bigger audience? The point was that great big ESPN was airing college bowling - something I admittedly wasn't aware even had a potential audience - while most have to pay extra to see MX since they probably have access to ESPN already.
And the NBC "hurting" comment was just a joke - not intended to imply that picking up MX was the reason for their problems. I hoped most understood that.
As far as PIP ads - I don't know, but I have a feeling that the marketing people will try to convince the advertisers that their potential customers are much more likely to see their ad if it's a PIP because viewers won't skip it or leave the room like they would with a dedicated commercial break since the programming is still in progress. Not saying this is the case, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's how they sell it. A smart customer doesn't care how big their ad is or how many times it plays if no one sees it.
Thank you. I was smdh when he said that.
Pit Row
Yeah haha I remember that. Winston sponsored nascar at the time. Open face helmet smoken his cig. Dick is short asphalt track legend in Wi. You could b from anywhere in the world & you didn’t hv chance to beat him. The clay oval big races some big name nascar drivers raced in Wi. It was a big deal to serif they could run with the Wi. Boys. 1st auto race in the world was in Wi. The state agricultural organization organized it with a 100k purse to the winner. To get the steam powered vehicles to the next level. It was an endurance race. Not many finished there steam powered rockets , haha in time. The winner never got the 100k it was a much lesser amount. Chicago says that wasn’t a race . We had the 1st auto race. I think this was in the late 1800,s. Wi. Still has a color newspaper like magazine. Reporting on current races, drivers and past legends. Wi. Used to race 6 night a week.
There’s no other top tier Motorsports happening for the first 6-7 weeks of the year. NASCAR, F1, Indy Car, MotoGP are all on winter break.
…finish thread titles?
seemed pretty clear he was talking about major league sports.
Daytona 500 in February
Motorsports because other forms of Motorsports would be more likely to watch SX than tick and ball sport fans would.
NBC is way bigger than ESPN. They show a live moto for almost every round for the rest of the year. More people would have access to that than have ESPN. Its not the entire series , but for $5 a month You can see the entire series LIVE if You want. Or watch on CNBC when they replay it/DVR it. Is ESPN covering the entire series of every odd ball sport they show? Live?
ESPN is in around 72 million US households. NBC is in over 277 million US households. Peacock has 34 million subscribers and is available for free to the 14 million Comcast cable customers.
I do really like the idea of the pic in pic ads and they might even be able to sell them for more . Since they would for sure have more eyes on them VS stand alone. I agree that they could be worth more.
A benefit of the races being on a streaming service is they are able to collect a lot more data on who is viewing and when they are or are not viewing, etc. And use that to sell potential sponsors. The way they figured TV and radio ratings in the past is more of an educated guess . With a few thousand people representing 100's of thousands with their responses and viewing habits. And averaged out. I'm sure that smart TV's and cable TV being more of a streaming service than a true TV service these days has changed how they collect that data. But as a kid , my mother was involved in some of that stuff and it seemed like it was more of a rough estimate/ guess. than the hard data that is available these days.
To clarify, I was referring to Peacock when talking about having to pay for MX, not OTA/broadcast NBC, as that can obviously be had with an antenna and only shows select races.
