I'm not arguing he doesn't need to improve in sx a lot. But paint the real picture. He was barely making mains on a 450. We're talking about him getting  250 ride. And he came into the season off an injury

Not really apples to apples since we don't have any recent 250 SX results to base off of. I think he'd be a top 15 guy in SX off the bat on a PC bike, depending which coast he races.

That proves my point further.....So you think Mitch or Bobby Regan would be happy with him finishing between Hunter Yoder and Geran Stapleton?  They were 14th and 15th in Denver for example.

Note:  Nothing against those two, just not factory level

He needs to get out of Texas and learn Supercross here in Socal with all the fast guys if he wants a chance at a factory ride unfortunately that's what the team cares about!

I’ve personally seen his SX tracks. They are the same spec and gnarlier sometimes than the west coast ones. I’ve also seen him ride those fairly well. He even had decent qualifying times this year on his 450 at a couple of rounds. He has fast guys come and ride there too, so he’s obviously worked to improve it the last year or so extra hard. It’s the race craft and confidence he’s lacking in SX. He needs consistent reps.

The next step is if Mitch or another team manager thinks there is a foundation to build on, they can get him out to ride with the rest of the factory level people in the pre season. It isn’t that Ty won’t go ride with faster people, he just did it for the last 3 weeks in California, its that he isn’t going to go into the red on his own dime to go to California for months on end.

I still don’t think he’s going to work into a consistent SX podium guy, but I do think he could get to a consistent top 10 guy indoors and eventually compete for race wins outdoors with a few years of stability.

PS I know you're a super fan and ride the facility LOL👍

This exactly,  It's widely known he wants to be in Texas and that has worked for basically no-one in the past 10 years.  He needs to be in FL at the sandbox (or similar) or in CA with some Team driving him every day.  That is what it takes now.  The days of being able to reach that level solo (unless you're Tomac) are behind us.

Goes to show how much SX rules the roost, despite MX being the core of the sport.

unfortunately its only like tht because of the revenue tht SX brings , ur casual fan is more likely to attend an event in a stadium on a Saturday night then a event of locations half of them in the middle of nowhere on Saturday hot afternoon during the summer , therefore the big manufacture teams putting more emphasis in ur sx skills , imo it should based on equal skillset , which I like how Jeremy Coker put it , coop & Eli is their sx guys while j coop was there Mx , nonetheless I still stand on ty should’ve been on AC’s bike for the summer instead of having broc just popping in for a race or 2

I do think SMX is changing things slightly. Factory teams need riders in the playoffs in both classes and outdoors gives them 22 rounds versus 17 to earn points. But SX is and will stay cash king unfortunately which is wild as outdoors is so much more entertaining.

This is a self fulfilling prophecy. If teams don't want to hire a guy unless they can keep them close and have some control over them that's certainly their choice, but there's nothing special about Florida or California that necessitate a guy train there. How many guys were training in Carolina 15 years ago?

Has nothing to do with control.  He could go ride at Club (Carolina), Sandbox (not a Team and if they would let him), or a number of other places where he is riding with others at the highest level.  I mean, how has it been working for him so far?  Time to level up or shut up

Shouldn't this apply just as much to outdoors though?

I agree, but I also said he'd be top 15 depending on the coast he rides right off of the bat. I see him building and being a consistent top 10 guy in the next season or two. Mitch has taken bigger gambles that haven't paid off as well... just my .02 cents

Top 10 in 4 out of 6 motos

2 top 10s overall

1 fastest qualifier.

I think if you asked Mitch before signing him if he’d be happy with these results through this point; he’d say yes.

He’s also much better on tracks with ruts. He hasn’t even touched one of those yet. And he kills at Red bud. I'm excited.

I am curious, though, what does everyone think he has to do this season to earn a factory ride next year? Is it even possible?

That’s what I was thinking can’t wait for red bud always does well there. I think if he can put it on the box, keep it around the top 5 and say get another fastest qualifier or two, as the old saying “we can work with speed” will create a serious conversation with Mitch and Kawi to do something

Skip the podium part I said! Just went straight for the win! What a legend let’s go!!!!

A lot of people said he was only doing good because the 450 field was "weak" last year, pretty sick to see him getting that one done. Hopefully he can build on that and maybe even make it work in SX aswell. What a race man!

I asked earlier in this thread “what does Ty have to do to get signed next year to a factory ride?” And I think we just saw him do that.

That was so cool to see. Mitch getting his 300th win on Fathers Day weekend after the loss of his Dad. And to have Ty be the rider to get it was extra cool to see.  Hope this turns into some momentum.

Mitch is a good guy and with this win with everything mentioned above. If Ty can keep it in the top 6 the rest of the season. Hell find the money to keep hom on for at least next year.

Amazing with the talent he signs and Masterpool is the guy coming through for him. And last couple years Jo with the results over the hand picked guys. Cool that he is loyal to his guys but time to clean house and go with some new faces

I get it but Cam, Levi, and Austin won SX races this year and had red plates. Now you have Ty winning outdoors.

4 of 6 PC riders have now won on the bike this year. That’s pretty impressive.

That’s what i was thinking to, fill in guy getting the 300th win deserves a one year contract at the minimum.
