I have no inside scoop on the top riders of this series. Just like you.

Been a few years where Graham was in the lead then checkpoint signs were missing.  Then suddenly appeared when 2nd place came along.  He had to backtrack.  Atleast two years he was far enough ahead on time almost to the end and this happened.   Of course a KTM rider was in second.  Almost as though they didn’t want a Husqvarna rider to win who obviously isn’t sponsored by Red Bull.  Again always open to speculation.  Many of the hard enduro events around Europe have similar stories.  Penalties with time.   If you asked the top ten riders you’d get similar answers.    It’s still a phenomenal sport and series.

Whatever corporate shenanigans there might be, like you say it doesn't take anything away from the fact that its a fantastic series and at a rider level at least, it's a true sport.

Said it many times but there aren't too many sports where even the pros are willing to help each other out regardless. That there speaks to how tough hard enduro is.

I forgot about the Jarvis check point shenanigans, that did seem a little shady at the time.

Was it once or twice where they DQ'd him?

Seems like one time he missed the check by like 3ft or something right?

Didn't he DQ'd or penalized for out side assistance a few years ago?

Oh that's right, he had to swap out parts with one of his Team Riders or something right?

I don't remember all the specifics but that seemed kinda shady too.

Erzberg folks hate ol' Grimbo for some reason I guess.

He was docked time and positions on the two diff years with the checkpoint fiasco.  Two years ago. His fuel line came off by first corner. Pushed it back to pits. Near an hour trying to figure out what’s wrong with bike.   Believe a bystander held onto the tank as they reassembled the bike.  He started near an hour down and made it to 19th place.  Course they DQ him.

Last year after they created the rule that no one was supposed to assist riders by helping them pick lines, Manny's father Andreas was wearing a blue photo vest and through certain sections of Carl's Dinner was pointing at lines for Manny.  There were no penaltys, but it was clearly cheatling. And that had nothing to do with KTM.

I'm friends with lots of guys who raced Erzberg or helped for teams and riders and yes, it is pretty much KTM/Red Bull territory. Their shenanigans are well know and documented. You have to go to 2004 and the late Christian Pfeiffer to have a non-KTM group winner, with a Gas Gas. Not a KTM GASGAS like now, a real spanish one ! That said, Mani is way above everyone else at the moment in Hard Enduro. Fun facts : he was our guide in 2018 for the KTM TPI launch at Erzberg. He knows the place perfectly, that's for sure. Such a cool guy also, very down to Earth.

I've been at Erzberg back in 2007 when Taddy Blazusiak was a total suprise and won it. Awesome event worth going, It's one of a few hard enduro races that I follow each year. I've heard stories back then that KTM (or at least KTM Group rider) MUST win this event.
I've watched video from Enduro21- their editor started mid pack and you can see how big chaos is there with start and on route. Watching this I'm less pumped for this event now - most of the time you're stuck in the traffic jam. If you don't attack the track, knowing that you will be stuck because there is no way to go and you need someone else to help, you will be waiting forever.
It's a tall order but they should make some changes so at least at the beginning this track will allow for more lines to go through. But maybe more guys would finish and it won't be as legendary as it is right now. IDK

Couple dudes got hosed in the "do I go or do I not go" game for sure.

Gotcha.  I mean the cream always seems to rise to the top, look how many years Grimbo started on the 2nd row, but man it's gotta make the first 20-30 minutes just hell for some of those guys who get bad starts.

With Carl's Dinner earlier on in the race it made it a bit easier for those guys to catch up but yeah. Trystan did really good to get up to 2nd so soon and if he gets a reasonable start next year he could knock Mani off his perch. Looking forward to TKO, Trystan v Mani should be awesome.

Why did they change it to Carls Dinner? In Billy Bolts vlog he also mentioned how they were under strict instructions not to call it Carls Diner in any media stuff.

I believe Karl Katoch originally named it dinner but most people called it diner. I guess he finally wanted to restore the original name and put the word out.
