I have 10 hours on my bike, just got back from riding all day and no issues. After I was my bike I hit the starter to get the ECU going to check hours on engine oil/ filter and the engine kill/ map changer button was blinking orange, it gave me a Diagnostic Code 8. I can’t find a list of codes for my bike. Does anyone have any information or know where I can find the diagnostic code list?
There’s a scan code on the front of the owners manual that pulls up the service manual with everything you need.
Did u ever figure out the code ????
No, it only does it when I start the bike after washing it but doesn’t come up after that. I’m guessing it’s sensing that something has too much water… needless to say I don’t start my bike after washing anymore
Go back through your electronics connections with dielectric grease it will keep the water out the connections. Will probably stop it.

So mine does the same - my bike has 30 hrs and for past month or so kinda feels weak. It still starts fine and runs but is more tractor than speed racer. No engines noises just sluggish and slow to rev. Almost like it's way rich (stock map) I'm wondering if i have a wonky sensor that might be putting the bike in "safe" or "limp" mode.
Where is this scan code ?? I have code 8 ??? any ideas
I've seen a few cases where it's water in the kill/map switch. They aren't sealed very well.
To the dude who doesn't want to start his bike after washing, please do, its a good thing.
I have a 2023 yz 450 and I got it 6 months ago rode the bike every weekend for 4 months just left for school recently and the bikes been sitting. My dad went to start my bike up because it’s been sitting and it wouldn’t start dead batt so I told him got out get a charger. And it charged up no luck. I checked the spark plug and it was burnt so changed it still no luck. (7 hours )on this fucking bike to
Did he try with choke on?
Yamaha YZ250f and YZ450f 2023, 2024 diagnostic code 8 is a gear position sensor error.
This was my code and problem. The sealant they used around the wires had a void. I filled with silicone and i no longer get flashing light after washing
What did u fill with silicone? The kill switch? That’s what I hear causes this problem
The gear position sensor had a void in the silicone. This was what was giving me codes - I’m the switch be a problem but wasn’t in my case
I'm not getting a fault code, but my 2023 YZ450F is having a motor issue when it gets hot. It'll start and idle, but as soon as I put into gear and pull away, when I go off throttle it wants to stall, and the motor sounds awful like it's sputtering and not getting fuel. It's almost like it's overheating but the bike will start and run like crap. Keefer recommends replacing the throttle map sensor so I'm going to have that done, but in the meantime thought I'd search some forums for any other owners that have had a similar issue. I'm also going to have the coolant temp sensor replaced as well.
My buddy had a similar issues just recently on his 23, about 15-18 minutes into moto, sputtering no power popping. Swapped fuel tanks with another guys 24, ran fine once warmed up for over 20+ of moto. I would bet your fuel pump is taking a shit. One thing he noticed on his from day one was his vent line had a kink in it, and had some memory in the line possibly creating a vaccum scenario thus burning up pump. FYI 24 hours on the bike.
When I took it back to my dealer last year, they noted that the vent hose coming out of my gas cap had a kink in it by the gas cap, and just cut the kink out and put it back. You got me thinking it could be the fuel pump. I suppose it could be the heat that is causing the pump to get faulty. My dealer told me that the spark plug looked rich as they reasoned my air filter was over oiled and wasn't getting enough air. I thought it was BS. I have 23 and half hours on mine but it's been doing it pretty much from day one. Running race gas has improved it, but last week even with the race gas was probably the worst it's been. It was in the 90's and the bike stalled on me in a corner it was so bad.
My buddies bike had a kinked vent hose from day one, think it contributed to the early fuel pump failing. Replaced pump, rode all day saturday zero issues.
My friend just had a fuel pump go. We put my tank on his bike and it started right up. He ran VP then ETS. Looks like it also ate an oring on injector.
Pit Row
Also adding he ran Renegade MX4 fuel thru it as well.
I had the throttle position sensor replaced recommended by Keefer. My dealer can’t find anything wrong with the fuel pump or the sensors but I have to try something. I’ll provide an update once I ride it again.
Update: Bike is fixed! Finally the bike acted up for the dealer after I dropped it off. It would stall after blipping the throttle. The throttle position sensor was discovered on the rich side so they replaced the sensor and positioned slightly lean. All good now!
Wait, so they replaced the tps because it was set incorrectly from the factory, and then adjusted the new one to have less resistance? They have a standard resistance they should be set to from the factory. This sounds like the factory didn't adjust it right during manufacture. Same issue the 2016 and 18 kx 450s had. It's hard to find the resistance spec but it's worth knowing, and checking if it is correct on every new bike.
I don’t think it was set incorrectly from the factory, I think it was a problem with the sensor that developed over time and was getting worse. Yamaha has a manual online that does into more detail and lists the voltage spec as between 4-6v for the tps.
