Whats your thoughts on the Showa suspension?

Might go from yami to kawi.. the only thing I am not sure about is the suspension. Love the kyb.. plush with good hold up. Is it possible to get that feeling with the Showa?

Showa can be just as good as kyb with the right tuner. Stock these Showas are really adjustable, especially on the fork comp clicker. Stock they are pretty good but blow through the travel on the bigger bumps. I was running about 8 or 9 out before I revalved them. Now after a revalve they are even more amazing! Love this bike! Now going to do the shock as it can feel a little soft when pushed.

Kyb is just so much more comfort focused. Only thing I don’t like about showa is once you hit the mid stroke it feels like it gets very harsh. If anyone has a very solid set up on their suspension, send it my way haha

What's the minimum and maximum fork oil level? Is 380ml max?

Will go to 57nm rear and 5.2 front and try somewhere between 350-370ml of oil I think.. 197 pounds

I’m at 370ml currently, but weight 20lbs more.  If I were you, I would start at 350 and raise it if you need to.  You can unscrew the air bleed screws and add 10ml at a time with a syringe.  That will help with bottoming.  If you’re a faster rider and want more hold up, go to your dealer and buy a single optional stiffer spring and add it to one of the forks.  That really increased stability for me without making it harsh.

At your weight, you’ll benefit from the optional stiffer shock spring as well.  It will help keep the bike from pitching back and forth.  I’m really tall, so I went with an aftermarket 5.9nm spring, but the OEM optional stiffer spring will be good for you.

With the stiffer springs, you might need to turn the rebound in a couple clicks to counteract the rebound effect of the stiffer springs.

Got my first ride with Ti6 exhaust today. For anyone wanting to save a few bucks and doesn't mind the look of the stock exhaust removing the baffle and screens gets you 80% of what the full PC does. Definitely a little disappointed there wasn't a bigger difference. Also it's a subjective thing but to me the PC pipe sounds like shit, especially high in the revs.

Thanks for your quick reply and feedback.
Sound is a bit of an issue for me riding at my home track, and while I was all set on the Ti-6 pro, the fmf slip on may fit my needs better.

I have been a PC loyalist, but from what I am gathering, the FMF slip on seems like a viable option, looks good, and reports make it seem like it’s not too obnoxious.

Anyone with the fmf 4.1 with slip on care to comment on how loud it is.  If it wasn’t for the house track I wouldn’t care. I’d love to know if the Ti-6 pro or fmf slip on is quieter.

Decisions decisions…

Akrapovic is always the most quiet, if not maybe consider leaving the exhaust as is, and getting an ecu for your power you’re looking for and keep the sound in control.

The ti6 pro is definitely more quiet than the standard ti6. If you don't mind the look of the stock exhaust cutting out the baffle and the 2 screens will get 80% of the power gains of a full PC system and is still fairly quiet.

i have the fmf slip on and it is muuuch quieter than the t6 or the ti6 from others around me that have the PC exhausts. i honestly think the fmf sounds better too. That t6 once in the revs is super loud and raspy. The ti6 isnt far off from that note either.

I'd love to see a dyno test of the stock exhaust with baffles removed vs. aftermarket.

Yeah would be interesting to see. My butt dyno says there's not much in it but it wasn't a same day/same track back to back test so I could be a bit off.

FMF 4.1 with insert in is not loud. The slip on works great with he stock header. I had a PC system on the previous Gen KX 450. Worked good, but loud. I personally like the FMF 4.1 better. Great performance light, small, and quiet. Can't go wrong with either system both good.

Does the fmf give it the deep tone? I prefer that over the raspy tone my pc gave on the 19.

If you're that heavy, you don't need a softer spring.  Try turning the rebound in a click or two and see if that helps slow things down in the back.  You could also try turning the high speed compression out 1/2 a turn.  Reducing high speed compression tends to make the bike ride a bit lower in the stroke and make it more compliant on small choppy stuff.

i have done all that. im about 3 turns out on high speed, few clicks slower on rebound. my 2019 and 2021 i went with a softer spring and it was amazing. didnt think i would need to do this with this new bike but everyone has been saying how its sprung heavy. race tech shows to go down like 3 spring rates which just sounds nutty to me. but was curious on guys that have gone softer on the rear and how it worked for them.

I’ve had both FMF 4:1 carbon on the 20 model it had a slightly deeper tone cause the muffler packing

on The 24 model running the PC TI 6.. with the spark arrestor it’s the same loudness as the FMF without the arrestor installed, bought it back in March cause it was first available over the FMF and slightly more you could purchase the TI head pipe with it

Took the arrestor out of the PC TI 6 and instantly noticed it was a lot louder, ended up putting it back in at the end of day,

id say both equally good, just depends on your budget and the look you want

I have been using Factory Connection for a bit and the settings that they have for me are as good as it gets IMO.   Great racing suspension if you know what i mean....

Is the 24 450x worth taking a shot at for gncc type racing? Or should I stick with the Ktm’s I’m used to? I usually ride 250s but wanted to try a 350 next. I race open expert and 185lb.

the rebates are insane and with a couple mods it still should be cheaper than newer Ktm.

Picked mine up today. We ran the bike for recalls and none came up. Apparently somewhere in the later stages of production they either fixed the frame weld issue or the 2nd half wasn't affected. I did not know that.  I was assuming it was all of the bikes. Kawasaki said they will stand behind all of their frames regardless if your bike was in the recall or not.

Yes. We have the XPR ECU

Not to sound like a salesman for Vortex, but it is a night and day difference between the OEM ECU. The Kawasaki Ride app is almost worthless.

For better and smoother power, This is my opinion on the motor modifications needed on this bike for A and B riders.  I know it's a few grand for this stuff, but if you race it is worth the money:

1 - Twin Air Power Flow air box

2 - New ECU

3 - Slip on Pro Circuit muffler or better yet the complete Ti 6 system

4 -  Hinson or Recluse clutch, the OEM clutch is weak.

We will be at Hangtown Friday and Saturday if anyone wants to come by and see the motorcycle up close.

I just picked up a 24 kx450x and I race Open A in the AMA West Hare Scramble series. $7200 OTD from Power Motorsports in OR. I was on a 21 kx450x, and that bike was a great platform for offroad racing. For me the switch was easy considering that my tank, clutch, wheels and other small parts all swapped over to the new bike. The stock spring rate should be good for your weight, so just a standard revalve if you're looking for more comfort. I haven't fully broke in my suspension yet, so I can't comment on the stock valving just yet.

Also, not sure if you've looked at the contingency, but Kawi is putting up real money for the series I race in. My class payout is, 1st=$1,000, 2nd=$750, 3rd=$500, 4th=$300, 5th=$200

Yes, the contingency in my area is super nice. I’m still getting quotes for nearly 8k. So, still eating until these dealers want to quit adding 1k in crap.

Congrats!  I was told the same thing last week about my frame from a very high volume dealer.  Hope the info we got is accurate.

I sucked one up- put about 2.5 hrs on it. I’ve had a 19’, 20’, 22’, then jumped ship to a 350..  never could find a happy place on the 350 chassis (engine was awesome)-

All I can say is this chassis is freaking awesome. Suspension feels super good now (190lb Vet) but a lil busy in the back. Yup certainly is a bit more front end biased than the old one.

Yeah stk it’s totally choked up. (Bad)  -FMF slip on + Twin Air woke it up. Super easy to ride and now is not slow.. Revs out better than last gen.

Ill have my vortex back for the weekend and will follow up.

Curious, are people doing just  a TwinAir filter or the powerflow kit? Seems like alot of dickin around to install the powerflow kit for what it is.

From what I've gathered, everyone is doing a domed filter cage like this https://dcmxtools.com/products/dcmx-air-filter-cage-2024-kawasaki-kx450?variant=44028078489763 and running the TwinAir or DT1 filters. They are both larger than stock and with the domed filter cage, they don't get sucked in under hard throttle.
