I was wondering the same thing procircuit jetting on their site recommends changing out the power jet. Not really sure how critical this even is since its just extra fuel.

I’ve used the 35 and the 70 power jet. Didn’t notice a huge difference when swapping between the two but also did not see any downsides to the 70 power jet. I left the 70 power jet installed. My best setup was ProCircuits recommended jetting spec with the 70 power jet.

I know I've mentioned this before, but if you get off that lean slide that comes in those bikes, which is causing that lean bog off the lowend, it will opens up your needle options, a ton.

Digger, have you ever gotten one of these new gen YZ125's fixed the right way with the right slide?  What slide did you end up at and what other jetting?  I've never messed with one long enough to try different slides.

Yes, I started off using a 5.5 and then switched to a 6.0. They both worked much better than the 6.5, but at times I thought the 6.0 might be a little lean when the weather got cold/cooler, in the 50's. If it was my bike, I would just cut 5.0 slide into a 5.75 and be done with it. That 5.5 slide is out of a Sherco, and is damn expensive through them. With either slide, 5.5--6.0,I could use any oem W starting diameter needle and jet around it, pilot and main wise, with the 6.0 using slightly richer settings. This was all done using a 35 power jet. I eventually settled on using the 6.0 slide, simply because more people have access to a 6.0 slide than a 5.5. I used single taper CCL in clip 3, I think, it's my go to needle on those small bore bikes, with a 55 pilot, but it was cold at the time of testing, at about 2 turns out on the air screw. I could also get a 52 pilot to work, but it was at around 3/4 to 1 turn out on the a/s.  On the main, I was going back and forth between a 180 to 185, and just left a 182 in it, when I gave the bike back. Overall, I was pretty satisfied with the jetting and would have no problem racing the bike as it was. It was clean off the bottom, with no bog, and rev'd through the middle and into the top cleanly as well. It was a really fun bike to ride, when jetted well.

I laughed when all the guys glossed over Digger’s settings, and swapping needles, jets.
Digger knows carbs and how to jet bikes people.

Digger where do I find a 6 slide?  I looked on Motorsport and I think Rocky Mountain and I just see the 1 stock size.  Local Yamaha shop?

I get them from Jets R us. I see that they have gone up quite a bit in the last few months.  This is a notched 6.0.

Jets R Us Throttle valve PWK stamped 6 N502-27600 022-040

If you want to buy it under an oem part # ? It can be found on/under an 99'-00' KX125 parts fiche.

When I was testing that bike (23' YZ125x), it was pretty chilly out, lower 50's--high 40's, so I wouldn't be afraid to use a smaller pilot, start out with a 52 and possibly work your way down to a 50, depending on the air screw setting, for the warmer weather. The main may need to go down a touch also, possibly in the 180--178 range.

Digger, you mentioned in another thread "The new 125 Yamaha's, with the Keihin and #7 slide, like to use a DCL or DCM needle, which has a richer taper than the CCx needles." is that still a right way to go with the 7.0 slide?

If I remember correctly, that was on a Keihin conversion bike that didn’t have a power jet . I have not tried that jetting on the newer keihin equipped yz125’s. I probably would have tried using one of those needles, but I didn’t have , either of those D series single taper needles when was I was testing last year.  I wouldn’t be afraid to test it, if it’s something you're thinking about, I can’t guarantee it will work like the other jetting that I mentioned though.

does anybody know where i could get a #6 slide?

I ride from 5000´to 8000' at temps between 45° to 90° Fahrenheit  do you think a 6.5 slide would work?

Sorry guys, I didn’t realize it would be such a problem getting a CCL needle.

Like I mentioned before, the richer slide opens up your needle options. With that said, I was also able to get an NOZI needle to work as well.  I just like the CCL a little better, but the NOZI was good option as well. The problem with using the NOZI triple taper needle is, I don’t remember the exact settings. That triple taper series needle, typically uses jetting 1-2 sizes small/leaner on the pilot, and 1-2 sizes leaner on the main than the single taper needles

Back up settings,

Needle—NOZI in #3,  Note----an----N1EI is the 1/2 clip richer version of this needle series

Pilot—48–50

Main—-178–180

Power jet—-35

Slide—#6

A/S—-start out at 1.5 turns out.

Digger,

Thanks for the info. I ordered the #6 slide and a NOZI needle and will try your recommended jet sizes.

Will I need the cable holder that is specified on the JD website for the #6 slide? I ordered a notched slide from the Keihin-FCR website.

Thanks for mentioning that,

Yes, you will need the different cable holder when using the 6.0 slide. Do NOT use the Yamaha OEM spring loaded cable holder in a non Yamaha oem slide, especially when using an aluminum needle. The bronze single taper Keihin needles will probably last, but the aluminum oem needle will break. It's not a question of if they'll break, they for sure will, but when.

I would like to add, for those looking for a CCL needle, the equivalent oem needle is an R1370E, which is still available, I believe, through  Kawasaki

Digger,

Thanks for the quick reply.

Would this CCL needle be the same as the one you've mentioned earlier in the thread with the 52-55 pilot and 180-185 main?

An R1370E needle is the equivalent to the CCL. This needle (R1370E) would use the same pilot and main as the CCL. The NOZI needle I mentioned above, should require a slightly different (leaner) pilot and main then the CCL settings.

Thanks for the clarification. I've ordered both needles, R1370E & NOZI, and pilots from 48-55 and mains 178-185. These should cover me with either needle. Thanks again for the info on this, I'm looking forward to trying these combinations.

After spending more than 2 weeks adjusting the carburetor jetting on my new 2023 YZ125 I have finally found an ideal setting and want to share it with you. I spent a lot of hours reading online comments, magazine tests, contacted a few well respected tuners, and swapped jets and needles so many times I lost count.  It’s beyond belief that Yamaha would release a bike that has such terrible stock jetting. In the end I found a setting that FOR ME was head and shoulders better than every other setting I tried. That jetting was the ProCircuit setting referenced in MXA on their 2023 YZ125 ProCircuit race bike.

The setting is 165 main, 62 Pilot, and Y3 needle in the 3rd clip. The Y3 needle is the key to making this jetting work. You can order this through ProCircuit but you will have to call, it’s not listed on their website. This needle comes with the GYTR jet kit along with some mains and a 70 power jet. The only thing you use from the kit is the Y3 needle.

Im using this jetting in 85-100 degree weather at sea level. Fuel is 1 gallon of C12 and 3 gallons of 91 non ethanol pump gas. Mixed at 32-1 with 927 oil. Riding on the MX track there isn’t the slightest miss, bog, fart, hiccup, flat spot, etc. It just absolutely works better than anything else.

I tried everything from 50 to 72 Pilot and 155 to 180 main. Along with optional Yamaha needles that had leaner straight sections. Trust me this ProCircuit jetting works head and shoulders better than anything I tried.

I’ll try to paste the link below to the MXA test where they reference the ProCircuit jetting. This is the only place I have read anything about the Y3 needle but trust me, it works!

Is the #6 slide needed? Or this jetting with stock slide?

I’ll try to paste the link below to the MXA test where they reference the ProCircuit jetting. This is the only place I have read anything about the Y3 needle but trust me, it works!

Is the #6 slide needed? Or this jetting with stock slide?

Would this be ideal for trail riding?

After messing with the JD kit I emailed them about the bogging and complaints I see online and they told me this:

“The Bike I had was tested @ 40-1 Motorex in a 8 hour enduro , all over throttle ranges.”

maybe this is the solution to the crappy results with the JD kit. I’ll test out this week with his gas mix and see if it makes a difference then my yamalube 2R.

For me, this jetting worked great. Track, trail, or following my son around on his 50cc bike. Didn’t matter the situation, it just worked great at all times.

Hi, I found slide 6.5 from KTM (54831035065) what do you think will be work with Digger's setting?

Maybe it solution for set up with pro circuit with Y4 will be less air in mid range?

I was never able to get a 6.5 slide to work the way I thought the bike should run.
I do know that the 5.5 slide under a a KTM part # will work though.  I wouldn’t be afraid to use it with a slightly leaner CCM needle.
Here’s the KTM part# for that slide

Why not put a wanted to buy ad in the classifieds? Someone must have one...or cut the 5.5?
