DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
Slater Skins. Looks like you’d need a bunch of grip tape and a better cooling system….. other than that, great idea
That was just the american name. Ufo and Acerbis was ”full body cover” or something like that.
Just like other retro things that people thought ”wtf” about when they came, i would kill for a set of Honda full body covers to use on a mid 90’s cr125 build.
Your disdain for anything American is obvious . Why do you come here ? Oh and I thought Slater Skins were ugly as sin .
Not a big fan....
In that case I recommend boot gaiters with a helmet fin
Weren’t they made of fiberglass so they were not allowed?
I always thought they were a good idea and it would be a great opening to attract huge out of industry sponsors.
The UFO and Acerbis one are plastic.
Or you could try to learn something…
Do you realize how un American your comment is mate?
Like that is some truly hate filled speech right there.
To hell with the haters, i thought they were so cool the first time i saw them as a kid in the 90s.. sucks they never caught on.. the amount of sponsor money they could bring in now, would be insane
No, only the guy who made them
The way privateers have been selling individual round sponsorships this would help them sell the spots to much bigger companies.
Fuckin Love em'!
Pit Row
But I like my chick's kinda chubby, so take it for what it is...
I didn't notice any difference on a windy day, the biggest benefit was there was nothing for your boots to snag on.
Didn't one of the satellite teams try this within the last 2 years?
Blue Buffalo was the last one I recall.
Funny how these look so weird, yet it’s really no different than a fairing on a street bike.
Pretty useful space no doubt.
Didn't that make them slippery? I recall complaints that it was hard to grip the bike.
I thought skater skins were a snack made or atleast marketed by Kelly Slater
The problem with sponsors and ROI is you cannot see their logo on the bike. There is no reason for an outside company to pay to be on a bike for a decal placement. The only exception is if that rider is doing extra pit presence or vlogs featuring the sponsors; which Kevin Moranz does a great job of. I can see him running a team soon with how well he has grown his outside sponsors. But for the average privateer or even the stars you do not know what brand or outside sponsor they have; impossible to see in the stadium when on the track.
Couple things that would help that have been discussed before somewhat:
1) During podium interview have their sponsors listed to the side with QR and/or discount codes
2) When showing a rider on the screen, list their main sponsors on the bottom. Require extra tv production, but if showing Bryson Carroll for a whole rhythm section, flash who is helping him out, again have a QR code maybe where i can pause TV, snap pic and takes me to his personal page on the Supercross website and has bio and sponsorship info.
3) Remove the side numbers, opens up more area for main sponsor logo. I think AX tried this one year. Require the front and jersey so be bold and easily readable, but open up space on the side.
4) I think privateers need to use more custom gear like Canvas MX. Unless getting paid, not helping your brand to have the same gear on as 10 other guys in your heat. Look at Nick Tomasunas, he has built a "brand" around always having all white bike and gear.
Some of those look pretty cool but I cannot for the life of me imagine trying to actually ride/race with a bike like that. The leg grip has to be so awkward and feel like you're riding a box on wheels, not a bike.
I like the idea of them. But I think that as long as stock bikes do not come with them. Manufacturers are not going to be as willing to help out riders who use them. Contingency might be impacted by using them? I was thinking that they could have taken advantage of how they were making new bodywork , and design something that was more than just the stock shape with added on coverage.
I worked with the Slater Skin guy on graphics on his early front plate hand guard combo things that he had to submit to the AMA to be approved to use them. I don't remember well or feel like I should get into the specifics , but he wanted more from doing the team graphics than I felt like it was worth for me. I was honestly bummed out to see his team go away, but was not real surprised when I heard about his confrontation with the track worker. I have worked with a lot of great people in the sport. Maybe not great as far as finishes and race results. But fun to work with, good people. Maybe it was me, but we did not get along well.
if you've never had a kevlar seat cover then f*ck you
