VP fuel issue/recall check your pails

I'm not hearing a lot of others having problems but I posted earlier I sure did! '23 xc350 would hardly start and would hesitate and spit low to mid then as the RPM's went up it was ok. But not acceptable, I tried adjusting the TPS and even added some pump gas still ran like shit. I dumped the tank (not knowing the fuel was bad) and blew the tank out with air, took throttle body off and the injector had like a film on it - cleaned everything put TPS back to original ohms, put new 91 octane unleaded with ethanol in it and it runs great as it should. Not sure but with 2 strokes the oil added could possibly make it ok? IDK but I am glad to find out I'm not nuts thinking this new expensive fuel could be the problem.

It’s good stuff. I’ve used various Sunoco race fuels from the pump some never had one problem.

The only downside (to me) is they use Ethanol in their oxygenated fuels.

That’s what i run in my 4 strokes as it’s easily available most of the time in Las Vegas. It’s non oxygenated, no ethanol, unleaded fuel with 98 octane and i’ve never had a problem! 

The 260 GT Plus is oxygenated, that’s why I was comparing it to T4

Does Renegade have a VPR?

my bad i run the gtx 260 98 octane … its great fuel! 

Sunoco 110 from the pump, mixed 50/50 with Rec Fuel, is plenty good for the working man who keeps an eye on his wallet. 

That's 100 Octane, slightly leaded, ethanol-free, and $7.50/gallon all-in (before adding premix )

If someone's pouring $25/gal fuel into their tank, I hope they've already got fresh tires, clutch, top end, and suspension. My sense is that most don't.  But hey, it's their money to burn, not mine.

One of my mrxo2 cans is a “-x”. Are we sure the dash x cans are good?  I will be calling Tommorow, but wanted to see if anyone knew for sure.  (Like info straight from VP)

Just an update- according to VP east, dash -X for example is BAD too and don’t use it. 

Sounds like VP is having more than there fair share of problems.  Hope they get things fixed soon.  I always thought they put out an excellent product.

Who fucked up?

Lady on phone today had no ETA of replacement fuel either.  I might be making the switch to Renegade I guess.  I didn’t expect this when paying $40 a gallon… 

As an FYI - my son just blew a brand new 65 mod motor at 2 hours running on u4.4 with a listed batch number (with the -x).    We ran the same fuel in a stock bike that presented as having a carb issue at 1/4 throttle, and almost as if the crank seal was leaking.  I pulled the plug and the ground electrode was twisted a bit and  read like it’s been detonating recently.  My take is that the fuel is running very hot  - the mod motor had a pinched ring land which basically locked the ring in a fully recessed position over the exhaust port, which in turn likely caused the piston lip to catch on the port, throwing some debris into the chamber…  a pretty shitty way to find out our fuel is on the recall list.   I was beating myself up yesterday as I tore into the thing, according to my log I had set squish at .079mm, I double checked my timing yesterday…   I chamfered all of the port edges after having the cylinder plated…   At least I can rest assured now that i didn’t cause it.  Just need to tear the other motor (which is a brand new bike) down to see what damage is done…  my advice, don’t take any chances with it.   If you’re running  VPR, T4, T2 even U4.4 you likely don’t “need” to run anything but pump gas anyhow…  not worth the risk.
