Yeah, grip when 1 finger clutching/braking. Wear it under your glove to create a little ridge. Sorry thought purchase was a common term. 

I don't know, but I remove my wedding ring while riding. I have a friend who lost a small piece of finger in the sprocket during a wild crash and it gives me the heebie-jeebies.

I get the shivers when I think about wearing a ring while riding. Deglove injuries (exactly what it sounds like) are ugly and the treatment is difficult

I used to have a "mood ring"......it kept making me mad....

That, plus the one time I forgot to remove my wedding ring, I got the blood blister from hell right next to it after my ride.

Are those rings stiff like a regular ring or soft? Theres no way in hell i can ride with a real ring. Week after i got married i went to a race and didn't even think about it. Pulled clutch in, put in gear, and stalled.. The lever landed right on my ring while using two fingers. Imagine the same would happen with 1 finger clutch modulation while wearing a ring on middle finger. I only wear rubber rings now also out of fear for the above mentioned injuries. I work construction and im certainly not going to try to deglove a finger lol. 

They're made of metal (titanium). 

It could be a rubber ring, but what would be the purpose?

I heard they're huge Mr T fans from watching A Team reruns in Europe, but weight is a constant concern for training or racing so HRC's contract limits them to one ring and one necklace.

I went over the bars and tore my finger up pretty bad once and feel lucky it wasn't worse like some I have seen but learned a lesson that day.  A friend i was showing how to use compression braking in corners lost half his ring finger in a crash practicing the next day.  Says it was my fault jokingly sometimes.
