Fresh as they come!
Long time follower, first time poster. I thought it'd be fitting to show off my ride. I'm working on my 2021 KX 450 to get it ready for the 2024 mx season here in Alaska. This is what she looked like last year. I will post a thread in the bike build section to show what I'm doing now. She will look a little different really soon!
I have to add my 2 cents or pence worth. I bought a 2023 KX450 last year and raced the bike with only suspension mods and with the addition of a Get ECU. Loved the bike, coming off the previous gen YZ450F, 2022. So much so, I bought another for 2024. For this year I went a little further, and can honestly say it is the best 4 stroke I have ridden.
I have set the bike up with a Ride Engineering linkage system, Talon triple clamps, with 21mm offset, suspension sprung and valves for my ability. Motorwise the cam, piston and valve springs have been changed out for Pro Circuit hardware. Akrapovic exhaust system. Get ECU tailored to my liking.
I cannot speak highly enough of this setup. Broad power, that can be turned from mild to wild, handling as good as I can ask for.
Highly recommended.
Still sitting on my SR. $7700.
Besides suspension, chain and sprockets mine is bone stock but I agree. Such a comfy and fun bike. I swear, the rougher the track gets the better the bike works. I feel like I can ride it longer and harder than my Honda. Really confidence inspiring.
Fun ride while it lasted, but the sr went down the road today!
I got the dreaded broken subframe tab last weekend. Unfortunately when it broke the brake caliper smashed the can and ripped the brake line off. '23 with 17 hours on it (maybe 10 with the exhaust). But I was able to make a pretty easy bolt on fix for it.
Anyone know where I can get a service manual? I looked on Rockymountainatvmc and Motosport but had no luck. The Kawasaki options filtered down only the KX100. I'm getting ready to do a top end and want to make sure I do everything properly and get all of the needed torque specs.
The part number for the OEM manual is 99924-1545-31
Great idea! I hope it holds for you
What fluid are you guys running in the clutch? Just any DOT4 or is there something better?
The part # is easy to find, but it's been on back order for like a year. Does anyone actually stock it? I want one too.
If you need to replace the subframe, buy the SR subframe. It is the same price and comes beefed up from the factory.
I like Motul 600 for both brakes/hydraulic clutch, but Maxima racing blend or any other quality fluid like ProHonda is proper.
Pit Row
I don't know if it's an issue specific to this bike but no matter what I do my rear valve stem gets crooked. I replaced the rim lock last tire change and check that's it's snug before each ride. Does anyone else have this problem?
Not with the rear, but I noticed that my front tube has moved quite a bit. My front valve stem is crooked.
Have had it happen on every brand since the 1970’s its not brand specific.
Get a Honda rim lock. They are made better than the stock KX450 rim locks.
dudeee me too. I tighten the fuck out of my rimlock & that helps a lot but it still spins. I will be getting a honda rimlock!
Anybody have a comparison between the full rekluse & the full hinson? It is the same clutch on the 24 & I think i am going to invest in one! I received rider support from both so debating on what one to go with.
Aren't they universal? 450 rears are all 2.15. You mean the Honda 450 OEM one? I think I'm running a motion pro one now.
In Pit Bits, Bud Racing put 2024 plastics on the kx250. Might be able to put the 24 plastics on the 19-23 kx450 based on the photo.

I know the shrouds fit, the tank is the same, and that area of the frame is the same for 23 to 24. The seat is the same also.
Bud racing got a kit to fit the 24 plastics on 19-23 check their website

yes....the 2.15 stock Honda rim locks are really good. The rubber doesn't start to peel off on the casting of the rim lock
