Arm Pump Relief Supplement

I have always struggled with arm pump. Even when I was riding multiple times per week and racing a lot. I had a trainer, riding coach (so my technique was legit) and it did not matter if I was on the track or in the desert, I would get arm pump. I stopped riding for a few years and as I have been trying to ride more in recent years, my arm pump was so bad, I could only ride for very short periods.

A few weeks ago, I got in touch with this company called MTN OPS. They are a supplement company based out of Utah and they mainly market to hunters. Their hydration packets are what I am testing at work and they are legit. Anyways, I had used their products in the past when I was into archery hunting. I saw this newer product called Enduro and thought what the hell. I will try it for Moto and see.

I literally had 0 arm pump. I intend to continue testing it to see if it was a fluke deal or what but, I rode in the desert on rough single track trails, tight rocky sections, fast wide open sections, etc. for 3.5 hours straight and not once had any arm pump.

It is a little pricey but, well worth it to me.

I actually have no affiliation with them and paid full price at a sportsmans warehouse. I was shocked that it worked tbh. Figured not a lot of moto people had heard of them.

Im not going to give medical advice on a forum but I only see two things that might help with cardio(and the studies are iffy at that) and they are at a dose so high heart palpitations would be almost assured.

You are off a bit I believe. L-arg. And L-Cit. are known vasodilators and have no effect on heart palpitations. The rest of the ingredients are standard micronutrients which are all being excreted in sweat and useful to replenish. This is a DECENT product but it’s missing the most useful ingredients: Sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium (in a significant dose).

for anyone in this thread actually looking for answers, go for a solid electrolyte supplement, beet powder, L-Arginine, and beta-alanine.

If you don’t want to research anything, liquid IV and a “pump supplement” mixed together will do well. both obtainable at Walmart.

I'll buy a tub of that if you'll buy my bridge.

I'd rather have arm pump surgery.  As a 45 year old, slow ass vet rider, I've already bought all the cool kit.  Just need the surgery and I'll be A class for sure!

I don’t believe I am. The heart palpitations thing was a bit of tongue in cheek because of the massive doses.

Im sure you know l-arginine takes 24 hours to become effective, basically making it pointless in this supplement unless taken daily. Supplements are one of those things where everyone with google or a personal training certificate thinks they know something. Truth is if they had a magic Safe supplement everyone would be doing it. The gains you might would see would be almost entirely placebo.

This is the best supplement for arm pump:

4/19/2024 3:41pm

Arm pump is caused by the facsia around your muscles being too tight and constricting blood flow when exercising. For arm pump surgery they slice the facia around various muscles down the length of the arm so that when your muscles expand they won't be constricted.

The alternative to surgery is to increase the elasticity of the fascia. This can be done by supplementing MSM (methylsulfonylmethane), alongside foam rolling etc. The MSM over time will give your fascia more elasticity so it can better stretch when your muscles expand, and the foam rolling helps to break up adhesion between the fascia and muscle and also helps to stretch/loosen the fascia. It's also worth supplementing Vit C and Collagen as these three things are the building blocks of healthy fascia.

Would those massage guns help with this?

One of these will get rid of arm pump if you use it enough.

no supplements or spray or vitamin or magic spell will eliminate arm pump- but leg and core strength will.

there are no short cuts.

My experience is that L-arginine is much shorter acting than that but my anecdote is not worth a lot either.

the only cure for arm pump is technique and fitness and that’s the truth. The rest is in the margins.

They have a similar effect to foam rolling so yeah they would be beneficial, but it must be done alongside supplementation.

Try Super Beets chews before you ride.  They increase vasodilation which improves blood flow which will reduce arm pump.

How many gm do you take? I acknowledge some of the XC1 factory riders do use them before their 3 hour sprint.

Lol, no it won't, at least no by itself.  Can it help?  Sure, lots of things can.  I have worked out my entire life since I was 12.  I repped 400 lbs squats in college.  I still train 4 days a week off the bike (in my 50s) and ride once a week.  My core has always been insanely strong and I grip the piss out of my dirtbike with my legs.  I can still get some arm pump from time to time when I'm really pushing. Arm pump is partly genetic, partially diet, and partially training.  #1 cure for it is seat time and getting comfortable on the bike.  Riding form makes a difference too.  Strength and conditioning helps.  Proper diet helps.  Proper stretching of the forearm fascia helps.  There's no single magic button that solves it.  Diet, exercise, stretching, riding form, SEAT TIME, etc. is what solves it.

I found that time on the bike cured arm pump. Did 30 min motos and it was never an issue as long as I had been riding regularly.

edit: today, I’d make 2 laps…Laughing

Well it probably helped that the bikes weren't as powerful as now (with some exceptions). I vaguely remember one of the King brothers fully locking up one day and had to punch his throttle hand off the bars, it was too little too late though as he ended up flying into the crowd...
