Everyone wants to argue about oh there is many different ways to ride a bike fast which is true when it comes to riding STYLE. But as far as body position on the bike goes, what Jett, Chase, Tomac and some of the other guys are doing is the CORRECT way.

The body is just more stable and stronger in certain positions than others and the hips back, balls of the feet with a strong flat back is just the correct way to do it. Nobody argues that there is only one correct way to Squat, Deadlift or do pushups, the body just works better in certain positions for certain movements.

What sets Jett and even Chase apart is they are in the ideal position almost all the time no matter the situation, thats what makes it impressive.

What about riding a bike slow? Which is harder to do? Speed is a stabilizer

Hips back? What about weighting the front end? Is there one position ALL THE TIME? Maybe in deadlifts or pushups

A lot of these "instructors" today seem hyperfocused (to a fault imo) on body positioning and riding style. I would be kind of pissed if I went to a school and all I got was "just mimic what Jett and Chase are doing". Yeah, no shit. Not only that, but not everyone has the right body type to ride the Jett/Chase way. My T-Rex arms wouldn't allow me to reach the bars if I tried to ride as far back as those guys. It's not hopeless for short guys (Wardy/RC/JMart etc.) but the cat definitely has to be skinned a different way than what's being taught as strict requirements right now.

Besides all of that, most amateur riders are slow because we take stupid lines, have our bike in the wrong part of the power too often, and/or have lousy physical conditioning. Riding form/style is usually the least of our problems.

Body positioning varies, and no ONE position ALL THE TIME. It depends: attack vs energy conserving. Not all riders can ATTACK  all the time. Line selection is HUGE. If you're off by an inch, could be the difference between crashing or not, or at least save you time on the track. Some of these "instructors" don't know what they're talking about.... IMHO.

Does riding on the balls of your feet lead to more foot movement (forward/backward) for shifting and braking?

No.

Moving around on the footpegs leads to more movement. Right?

Between the balls and the arches; toes in and toes out, as needed. I ride with my toes out a little, and toes in as needed (to shift or brake). Probably counter to most "moto' instructors (toes in ALL THE TIME). Also, get good at weighting the footpegs/ loading the suspension

What are you talking about? They weight the front end all the time with their hips back, maybe you need to do some hamstring stretches if you can’t weight the front with your knees behind your toes still. If they need to weigh the front a lot they are sitting.

Billy Bolt seems to do a good job riding slow and technical stuff with his hips hinged

Hips Hinged? What does that mean exactly?

And, how is hips back weighting the front end?

very rider that rides under his guidance leaves, presume either because he’s a kook, or their results get worse, or they get worse.

To me, this particular accident from Austin was a direct result of his tutelage. Replacing solid muscle building weight exercises with ‘functional’ exercises meant he did not have the core strength to maintain form. Focussing on unlocking/loosening (including removing bracing to free up movement) meant he didn’t have form to maintain control. He was smooth and fast but didn’t not have the scope to react and control unexpected occurrences…

all from THE most injured coach in the business who is THE only coach telling people to not wear protecting.  He’s a kook who is a danger to the industry.

You know the idea of function exercises is that it is a whole body movement utilising your core?
As apposed to a leg press or any other machine that isolates the muscles reducing the amount of stabilisation muscles used mainly the core

Hips back doesn’t necessarily mean back of the bike just behind your toes it’s dynamic it changes up hill down hill cornering etc. Unless they are transferring to sitting, mid air or something out of the ordinary they are at most knees even with toes or behind.

Flat corner holeshots, knees behind toes, extreme enduro steep ass hill climb knees behind toes.

Uhm. No. The idea is to remain neutral on the bike like a teeter totter with a fulcrum that can be moved fore and aft with the slightest adjustment. BTW Levi’s knees are defiantly in front of his foot pegs and so are all the other riders in that shot

I feel like everyone can benefit from Ryno's advice there, not just in relation to motocross either. Being locked into what you're doing and not getting ahead of yourself is so important, and easier said than done.

The other guys really do need to focus on these little adjustments to their technique if they want to beat Jett, because just trying to go faster isn't gunna cut it.

Glad to see someone else can understand the most valuable part of this message.

lol. And how’s that working out with the kid being on the sidelines.  Had he stayed healthy and likely won or finished top 3 at worst in the series he’d have plenty of offers. As it is now it’s just another year he hasn’t completed a full season. Has he ever?

I posted it in the other thread, but it's been a few years since he's completed a full season.

I love that you are arguing with Austin’s dad who literally is involved in the whole program and obviously has some interaction with Mitch. Vital at its best.

The most famous case on here was when James Stewart posted here under a screen name and people told him he didn't know what he was talking about.

Yes but it limits the muscles maximum strength, it’s why Olympic deadlifters, lift hundred of kilograms standing on a medicine ball…

what functional exercises do is give you balance, which can help with micro adjustments and flow, what it doesn’t give you is strength. So when a big impact or unexpected obstacle occurs there’s nothing there…

that’s what happened here, he was flowing beautifully then a slight misjudgement of an obstacle causes him to completely collapse.  He didn’t have the max strength required,
