They used to show helmet footage all the time, now it seems like never, Why? The technology is better now then back when they used to show it every week. Helmet shots like the famous Reed-Carmichael battle at Daytona are awesome. Even vids like this Barcia one below really capture how fun it is to ride. I wish they would show it more often.

I wish they would do a helmet cam when they show the track on tv instead of the 'animated track map' that you have already seen on youtube 3 days before the event.

Kind of like what they do for the F1 car races, when they do a lap with the on-board camera.

They have full HD ones now too, cheaper and smaller. There has to be a reason. They are so small now they could aim it at the fork or shock during the race to see how it reacts to a triple or something. You could get real creative with the new small ones.

Good point indy_maico. The 3D map is never accurate to what the track acually is on race day.

Motocross/supercross is not like nascar/F1. The idea behind SX/MX is to throw as little money as they can at it and take as much from it as they can. If they cared they'd have safer tough blocks and such.

I was wondering why too. I used to love when they cut to an onboard especially if it was midpack and you could see the chaos. They have come a long way and they can record in HD but I wonder if there's technical limitations to transmitting HD wirelessly. That'd be my guess.

They used to do this, I was wondering why they stopped also.

Hmm, thats probably got something to do with it.. Although, I'm sure they pull it off in the GP coverage. Ironic, seems that is the dullest, most boring coverage of motocross I've ever seen!

Nascar has in-car cameras showing how much gas and brake is being applied. I'm sure it would be impractical to do for motocross, but it would be cool to see.

they should have a couple riders wear one in practice and then upload it to the broadcast...

We need Cameron Steel and his Helmet Cam footage. Anyone remember those?

The problem is that Feld won't allow anyone to run helmet cam's because they want to own all the content or pay a ridiculous price to be the "offical camera of SX".

It's a bummer because the helmet cam category is growing, giving more sponsorship opp's for teams, but now it doesn't make sense for the camera companies to invest into SX since Feld won't let riders wear them.

They look a little awkward to ride with maybe?

i actually emailed a few people about some of the new network cams available, but no response.

there are ALOT of wrieless, full color, extremely small cams out there right now that weight less that 2oz including battery that you could easily mount behind the number plate with a small hole inthe front to view thru and wire up for under 300 a rider, then have all of them connected and streaming for broadcast use. The range on these things is pretty impressive also, 200~300 yards.

no real reason imo. technology and new concepts are often hard to get an established company to give a shot, noone wants to be first.

When they cut to the onboard (Assumably SD) in arenacross it looks like garbage in comparison to the HD broadcast. It's all grainy and broken up. It might be nothing more than a technical decision by the broadcast team.

Yup. Remember when Yamaha inked that sponsorship deal with Go-Pro, and had all that sweet footage of Josh Hill winning at Minneapolis? Got yanked right away, and they were never allowed to do it again.

I see it as very good.... what do you expect? It's on a riders head bouncing around, etc.

I think the quality is quite good myself, considering not having one at all.

The bouncing around shouldn't affect performance on a fixed transmitter camera. There are no moving parts to jostle around. I was just saying that it's more than likely a SD transmission stretched across a HD broadcast. There's quite a discernible difference, that's all. I never watched it in SD, perhaps it's less noticeable.

You're right on both accounts there.
