Noticed this at the start of race 2 last night, thought it was odd. Does he normally not run a start device?

He's using a holeshot device, he just has 20" of travel. Wink

He said post-race that it broke in the previous race.

And they couldn’t get a new one installed between races? More beta issues i guess

The US Beta team is a strange effort. That's not even a Beta problem per se, they couldn't take out three bolts and put on a new fork guard with a different/new button? The fact they're not racing outdoors is strange too. The slowest of burns I guess...

Beta is an European offroad company…..

johnny Walker is the 2nd best endurocross rider in the world, top 5 extreme enduro rider, factory Beta rider and has almost no support. His hard enduro bike was 4yrs old per a recent video

if they can’t put any support together behind him, what does anyone expect from SX

From what it sounded like in the interview he bent stuff up in a crash in the first race.  In the very short time between races they got it all fixed. However I’m guessing they didn’t line the starting device back up with the fork guard and didn’t realize it until they went to set it on the starting line.  A mistake yes, one that I’ve actually made myself between the 3 motos of Endurocross 🤦‍♀️, I’m guessing it never happens again.

The thing is Jonny isn’t a factory Beta rider. We can debate that he should be (he should) but factory Beta in Europe doesn’t support SuperEnduro or Hard Enduro.  Their team focuses on Enduro GP.

I haven’t watched his videos, but as far as his old bike he might be referring to the old style motor he uses.  He likes the previous generation motor that has a different bore & stroke than the current bike.

How much support he gets has nothing to do with Beta USA and their SX team.

Someone mentioned this isn’t a real factory effort in supercross. I don’t know that to be true but it’s been mentioned several times.

Yeah I’ve heard that on PULP etc., not sure where they got that info, but it’s not true. They said something about it’s just the importer running the team however, Beta USA is owned by Beta Factory in Italy,  same as the other big 5 here in the U.S. are owned by their parent manufacturers.

The reason I believe Beta doesn’t get as much respect from the media is that they don’t personally know the guys at Beta.  Triumph hired guys from other teams or former teams so PULP etc. know all the guys there and respect them. Beta on the other hand built the team from within with their own people that aren’t as well known on the SX pits. Two different ways of doing things. One will probably get quicker results, the other might build a stronger more cohesive and loyal team in the end.

Well that explains why I saw the horrible start by him in moto 3. It was crazy bad. Shows how much of an advantage they are. Or how much they are relied on.

Mechanics don’t typically check their holeshot device between races to make sure it still works.

Matthes interviewed Benny after the race and brought it up, Benny said "honestly, it wasn't really even a big deal/that different"

I’m of the opinion the Beta program is sponsored/factory.  I’d guess Beta is fronting bikes and parts.  I’d also guess Liqui Molly is paying most of bills along with other sponsors.  It’s probably structured much different that big Jap and Austrian factory programs.

Same reason a lot of teams don’t. It’s very expensive and doesn’t get near the exposer. They do plan to race a few, I assume to get the guys in SMX playoffs.

First year team building slowly, they’ll be outdoors in the future.

BETA isn't getting the same level of attention because they aren't paying as much money as Triumph for the attention
