Woah....I was under the impression he was over the 2 wheel thing anyway but that post sure makes it seem like he wants to keep going if he had a ride.

KTM is making it a habit of kicking dudes to the curb it seems like, wonder if he had a contract and they told him "you're done and if you don't like it we'll see you in court" like they've done to some other dudes the last 12 months?

No, if you read Toby's statement he states they decided not to renew his contract.

I think his contract was up, but I'm surprised it wasn't renewed in some form.

Didn't see this coming. I figured he would be on KTM for a long time.

I definitely thought they'd "keep him in the family" for sure.  But I also thought he didn't want to race Rally anymore on a bike and would move to more of an ambassador role for KTM as he transitioned to a 4 wheel seat in Rally.

If he wants to keep racing bikes and they plan to keep racing Dakar it's pretty wild they didn't bring him back.

Perhaps they couldn't come to terms ...

I thought Toby was about to dip out of motorcycle rally in favor of car/truck ... he is carrying those nagging injuries.

He is WAY better off than others in that he has a fully fledged driving career going already. That probably gives him more options to just not sign (for less) and focus elsewhere.

With age comes a cage, time for him to fully immerse himself in cars and trucks. Extremely talented there too

The car field at Dakar has been dominated by the same old guard for a few years, it is ripe for new talent. Maybe Toby Price?

Those KTM and GasGas RC16 are getting expensive, KTM wants to win in MotoGP, that's their goal, and it's going to take them some serious Cash and resources, that means cutting budget in other areas (motocross and supercross included), they are as close as they have ever been to win a MotoGP title, and they want to seal the deal the earlier, the better.

Plus those MotoGP salaries are getting higher, as they don't want to lose who is going to be the face of motorcycling racing for the years/decades to come, Pedro Acosta.

This is totally crazy due to the fact he was still 5th this year in Dakar and he definitely has the talent to still get on the podium if not win it for the next few years.  It was awesome to watch him out here in the Finke Desert Race and I can proudly say I competed in the Finke Desert Race when he competed....even though he could have completed the course twice over in the time it took me lol.  I do hope we see him compete on the bike again next year, especially if he wants to race again as he has too much talent to just sit on the side lines.

Wonder if Honda will attempt to poach him now......

He probably wanted a limited event deal and to remain a KTM ambassador all the while pursuing four wheels, which KTM obviously has no vested interest in.

A bit of an unceremonious departure from his two-wheel career. I don’t suspect we’ll see him in another brand. That would mean he isn’t done with Dakar, which I suspect he is.

He’s a legend, that’s for sure.

I dunno, they already got a 6 man team and realistically at least 4 of them are potential Dakar winners.

Then there is the fact they are sponsored heavily by Monster.

I'd like to see it as I think that's a superior Rally bike to the Austrian offering these days but I think it's a long shot.

fuck ktm. that is all. always the same with them the most big headed, ruthless lot of the bunch. ITs sad to think they couldnt renew Tobys contract especially after he gritted them a win in 2019. I hope Honda can help him in someway, or even Hero perhaps? that would be a formidable team then with Ross Branch too.

I still think it's a big long shot but Nacho just announced today he's no longer with Honda so I guess if they want to continue with a 6 man team then they do have an open spot.

I bet Nacho goes to Hero.

Those RC16's are a real piece of engineering. I'd love to ride one.

Me too, but if we are talking about the pinaccle of motorcycling racing and engineering, I would rather ride the Aprilia RS-GP or the Ducati GP24, those thing they not only look like rockets, they are rockets.

He's going to Kove because he's only seen the US distributor's specs, not the actual specs.

i was thinking that KTM wanted someone slightly younger than Toby and offered Nacho his place. This then guaranteed that Toby lost his spot hence his annoyance at not being renewed. Ive heard that Jordi Villadoms had wanted to get Nacho for a long time.

anyway looks like people are saying its Kove instead which is...bizarre. I just hope Toby goes to Honda too

I would love to see Toby on a Honda, but no way he’s giving up Red Bull as a personal sponsor, so I don’t see that happening.

Isnt Jett a Honda Factory and a Red Bull guy? What you are saying doesnt make sense.

Also... I have been a KTM fan since they were White... But they are really losing me over the last few years.

The Honda Rally team is sponsored by Monster. The Honda SX/MX team doesn't have an energy drink sponsor

Nacho is one of the best navigators in the game so it would make sense that Jordi would want him.

I still think he's going to Hero though.

I think the open KTM seat will go to Tobias Ebster, he's got some pretty good potential and is Heinz Kinigardner's nephew so he has an "in".

As ayearinmx posted as well, the Honda Rally Team is sponsored by Monster Energy and would not be keen to allow Red Bull on one of the riders “kit”.  The Honda US MX/SX team does not have a conflicting energy drink sponsor, so riders can acquire their own if they wish/are capable of obtaining.  That’s how Chase was sponsored by Monster while on Honda and Jett is sponsored by Red Bull.
