Can we all agree, Daytona was Jett's breakout moment

aight guys after reading the "good, bad, and ugly" it sounds like this was Jetts breakout ride, and we should hand him the trophy now.  Nobody else can win this championship now.

Breakout ride in my mind just puts you as the guy to beat. Not necessarily the guaranteed victor each week or even for the championship. Just the guy everyone has their eyes o.

He is leading the points and he is the fastest at the moment. He’s the guy Webb, Tomac, Sexton etc. will be focused on having to beat.

The off track acceleration rule is  for when it was considered unsafe, OR an advantage is gained.  In the case of crew members helping a rider , the rules are much less defined.

They do not say that a crew member from another team can not help a rider from a team other than their own do they?

I guess they were technically not behind the stop that they are supposed to be behind when working on the bike. So there's that, But guys are setting their starting devices in the same area so I could see how they may consider it similar. They put the wheel on the bike in the area they are supposed to. But removed finished removing the tire cover while back on the gate. Ultimately the AMA decided it was OK.  You could ride with the cover on, just like You could ride without setting the starting device.  Both would be a disadvantage to not do.  Not removing the tire cover might be more of a disadvantage. But that is not in the rules. The impact of work done or if it was not able to be done, is not a factor in the rules as far as I understand.

I think that the most risk was for the mechanic that had his hands on the wheel so close to the start.  If I was on the gate and the guy next to me had that going on. I would feel like I had him covered  on the start because he was going to hesitate.  And in the real world it ended up only hurting Jett as far as his start right?

Yah its silly to argue over this stuff. But that's what this place is for right?  As inconsistent as the AMA rule enforcement may seem. We do not know of what happens  as far as AMA guys going and talking to a rider and giving them a verbal warning of sorts.  Everybody will not always agree with every decision made by another person. So as long as the rules have a person interpreting them, there is room for people to feel that a wrong call was made.

As far as the impact on Jett's ride, I say the issue with the tire cover makes the ride more impressive so a fine or penalty is really not relevant to the subject of this thread. Had Jett gone off the track and made a pass or made up a big amount of time in some way that was against a rule, and not gotten a penalty. That would be more relevant in my opinion. But in this case it was a disadvantage for Jett and a mental boost for his competicion.

The difference is the start device is permanent on the bike...  The tire cover is not.  I think there is a large enough safety issue here that the rule needs to be addressed.  I cannot speak for others, I have never said Jett should receive a penalty.  I said the rule needs to be addressed.  It's not about Jett, it's about the situation as a whole.  I think all accessories should be removed before loading the bike in to the starting gate.  If the mechanic wants to carry the rear tire in the air to the grate, so be it.  But no hands in the rear fender and wheel area after the 30 second board goes up....

We've all seen what "can" happen when shit goes sideways.

As for Jett breakout ride?  I didn't really see it as such, it was Daytona, more outdoors than supercross in a lot of ways.  He's just showing that week in and week out, other than shitty mud tracks, he has no weaknesses.

the thing is he's very strong, really smart, and confident. and so are the others, all of them, but Lawrence is a lot like RJ was when he transitioned to Honda. the similarities between them are very clear. he's making the same kind of impact Ricky Johnson did in 86. that's how I see it anyway. and others were able to beat Johnson, but aside from Ward, especially after Bailey's terrible crash, not many others could match him.

I don't even see how you can say mudders are his weakness. Outside of San Francisco, which was a mudder like we haven't seen in years, he done just fine in mud. You're all just praying it's his weakness because it's your only hope

Yesterday it was "nobody stands a chance", today it's "You're all just praying it's his weakness because it's your only hope"...

Chris! I done told you to stay away from them donuts! I fully expect you to start speaking with an Australian accent by the end of the week. Given the chance you're a strong candidate for grabbing those goggles 🙂

There has to be some rider lurking in the background that's going to step up to challenge Jett in the future, but I'm not completely clear who that's going to be. When I look at he's done this early in his career, he does seem to be one of those riders that could dominate the sport for a long time.  I'm hoping a rider like Cameron Mcadoo or Haiden Deegan find out that they're a much better rider on a 450 and have the speed to give Jett some really good battles, but right now don't know who for sure is going to be the next big challenger that has all the attributes to battle him for Championships aboard a 450, but like we've seen in the past, crashes and injuries are part of life in Supercross, so that could always change things.

Deegan bucking the trend and moving to 450 next year (which I love btw) could be the rivalry. we'll see.

I think Deegan will be good and can for sure ride a bike but he has 1 supercross win. Lets pump the brakes on him moving to 450 and be able to give Jett anything. I don't think Deegan even crosses Jetts mind. I hope you are right so that racing is not boring for the next 10 years but Deegan is going to have to get a lot faster.

Deegan will be fine on a 450. imo the transition from 125 to 250 was more significant than 250 to 450. yes fourstrokes are grunts. they have power. but they're not as violent or unpredictable as a two stroke. they got more grunt power but it won't surprise a guy like Deegan. he be aiight.

I would if it was true….  Your brain is processing an opinion without any fact to back it up. So, you repeating a lie about me isn’t going to make it true.  And that makes you a nut.

Unless you can prove where you came up with what my “hope” was, I’m moving on.

He has had several breakout rides, each with more meaning.
MXDN. first race first moto 450 outdoor win and then overall, 22-0 rookie, first race first SX win. Daytona over Tomac.
Other racers have beat him but he is the red plate holder. Respect.

idk…but I know this was his Oh Shit! moment.

IMG 0741

in all seriousness….Not sure if this was his breakout moment unless he now goes on an inside stadiums run.  Daytona is sort of in between an outdoor MX and SX race so let’s see in a month or so.  If he now dominates…then yes…this was his breakout moment in SX.  His MX moment was last summer.

Breakout ride depends on your definition but was racing Eli at Daytona the last of the "oh wait until he has to"s?

Puffing on Jett's cigar has proven to be even more unhealthy

Are you speaking from experience?

Nope, secondary smoke is not healthy for ya either and this saloon is filled with Jett puffers ☠️ 💀 ☠️

strongly disagree. If you want to blame something for the country going to shit. Blame the Baby Boomers for destroying our economy with the housing market and pain killers that are handed out like skittles.

The fact Medical Marijuana is what you blame. shows how little education you have around the topic.

It was a joke pal, nothing more. If anything pot legalization in this country is great because it has made it easier for ambitious folks to dominate the potheads living in mom's basement playing video games eating Doritos and wondering how they can pay off the last 39 payments of their Mitsubishi Gallant on blocks in the front yard that is now the home to his pit bull. Just another joke on stereotypes....

Well! it truly looks like Daytona was Eli's passing of the torch moment unfortunately, because now it's 3 in a row for Jett and he seems to have figured the 450 Supercross thing out.  No! disrespect to Eli, but in sports it happens where an athlete doesn't retire at the top of his game and a new hired gun rides into town does force him to retire. I can't really think of many riders that went out on top, maybe Ricky Carmichael, because he wasn't willing to take the risks anymore, but with most of the ultra fast SX/MX riders there comes a time when they realize they just don't have that extra whatever it was that made them one of the greats.  Jett is came into the 450 class perfectly by racing MX last year to get used to the 450 before racing Supercross in 2024 and I'm not sure who on the horizon is going to step their game up and compete with him in the future, probably some 14 year old kid we haven't heard of yet that will come in and start giving Jett headaches in about 6 or 7 years, until then though it could be some boring racing for awhile.  Anyone who still refuses to acknowledge Jett's abilities is just living with their heads buried in the Dirt.   Still gonna watch and hope to see who the next up and comer is to make the 450 class competitive again.   All I gotta say is for everything he's gone through in his career with the injuries he suffered, Ken Roczen is an absolute Stud the way he rode that Suzuki last night, he's really good in these shortend triple crown main events.

Jet has been amazing to watch.  When he passes a rider it seems like he has been able to get a second or 2 gap in just a corner or 2.  Fun to watch and try and see how he is going faster.  And Kenny , that was so cool to see Kenny be the one to be giving Jett the most trouble.  I have to agree that the Daytona pass seems to be that moment for Jett.  Not that he is guaranteed  that he will never have a bad race or will win every race for the next 7 years. But I really would not be surprised to see Jett win the rest of the SX races this year, like RC did when He finally had things click.

I'm hoping that Hunter picks up some speed and gets closer to Jett. He gets to see and do everything Jett is doing. But I wonder if it might also be a slight disadvantage. If Jett is always faster at the practice and test tracks. I wonder if it could help Hunter to get some confidence by going and doing some stuff without Jett? Probable better to stick around Jett and then He knows how fast he needs to go to get on that level.

Even if Jett starts to win everything, I know I'll keep watching. I went to more races during the RC 250 and Stew 125 era than at any point. It was amazing to see  how RC would find a fast straight and go slow on it during time practice/qualifying . So He knew he could drop a couple seconds just going fast on the straight. I watched him at High Point one year when he did that. I don't know how often he did it. But even with domination unlike any other rider, It was fun to watch. And there were always a ton of fans there. A lot did leave during the second Moto if RC got a good start. But I feel like domination by 1 rider has not hurt the sport in the past. It can be good for attracting new viewers. It's a bummer for more hard core viewers that like a good battle. But there is always the battle for second and third. When second becomes almost as good as first, people battle harder for it.

I don't know if you noticed this, but it seemed he was just riding behind Ken Roczen studying where he was going to make his pass and then BAM! he just lights the fires and he's gone, then backs it off after gets a comfortable lead and then just maintains it.  He did the same thing at Daytona when he passed Tomac and Justin Cooper through that rhythm section and then he was gone. When Jett decides to wick up the speed temporarily, he's incredibly fast.
