Man that does seem pretty dark. I haven't had a chance to even fire mine up. I got it home from the dealership back mid-February and unfortunately had to drain the fuel, remove the battery and cover it up in my garage due to having to fly out for my job for a few months. Bummer for sure to get a new bike and not able to ride it.

However, the more things I am reading and test videos I've watched and such are really making me a little worried about this purchase. I sold a '22 KTM 350 sxf to go for this new Kawi, but just seeing things like: 1) fuel/mapping issues....2) complexity with the rideology app 3) no hour meter within the app 4) seeing a post where someones oil pump gear failed destroying the engine within first few hours 5) Keefer mentioning a "potential" crack in the welds or frame that "could be a recall" 6) seeing the color of that oil change there 7) lack of parts available even though the bike has been out for a while now....etc etc. Really has me feeling a little weird about this purchase.

Not trying to sound super negative here, but I'm thousands of miles from my new bike and can't wait to ride, but I unfortunately per the internet I really haven't seen many positives of the bike which gives me a tad bit of anxiety.

This is my first Kawi so I have zero experience with the brand. Only had Yamaha (2-strokes) and KTM 450 & 350. I just say I had zero issues with any of those listed above aside from not really loving an air fork. I don't recall the oil ever looking more than just a hair darker than brand new during oil changes on the KTM bikes.

In short.......someone please tell me "it's ok, you made a good purchase"......Unsure lol

I appreciate it. That definitely makes me feel a little better. Sucks that I can't be home at the moment and get to riding it. As for now I can only sit and read and watch videos and so on. They all have their own special pros and cons so it's good to hear you are enjoying it so far. Can't wait to get home and get started on the freshy.

It's a badass bike. Throw a pipe on it and do the airbox kit and remove the grommet and the foam from side cover..

Oil is pretty nasty yes, but it's going to be dark after the first change. All my bikes looked like this, almost lol. But it only holds 1.2 quarts. Kawasaki adds zink to the break in oil, maybe it's darker because of that, who knows. Oil is clear now after riding it a bit.

Going to sound like a bommer lol, but I've been riding since 1980....50s, 80s, 125s, 250s, 450s, liter bike's, GS1250 BMW, S1000RR, raced bikes, cars, snowmobiles, jet skis etc. I've been building prototype cars and Transmissions for almost 30 years..this bike to me seems legit, seems like it will be a reliable bike. Run 91-93 octane if available. I'm a big guy, yet this Fucker pulled a 4th gear wheelie from hell today. CR 500 type wheelie lol

That sounds great! I'm compiling my list while I'm away and checking all the sites for available parts in hopes I can get everything ordered and at home ready when I get back stateside.

And that definitely makes sense on the zinc in the break in oil. I've built a couple old engines for a couple of my older truck/Jeep projects and experienced the same with the zinc and break in oil. I'm sure it's perfectly fine. I'm pretty meticulous when it comes to maintenance, hell to be honest there's a fine line for me as far as if I like working on them more than actually riding them lol. But, we all work hard and pay a lot of money for this hobby so nothing wrong with extensive maintenance IMO. I appreciate all of the info and experiences you guys are having. While I'm away I'm just taking all the notes I can from you guys so I will know what to do and maybe what not to do with it when I finally get to ride it.

Yeah, don't sweat it, this bike rips. If you hear otherwise they are most likely C riders 🤣

Sounds like it will suit me perfectly fine then, I'm more like a "E" rider if they made that a classLaughing

That’s because only the people with “problems” are in here posting. I can guarantee there are way more people out there having a very positive experience with this bike that just aren’t in here posting about it.

Also a lot of problems. Aren’t actually problems. Just people hypothesizing.

I did my first oil change today and the oil was brown (but not black) with 2.5 hours on the bike.  There was a single fleck of silver colored metal on the filter, but nothing to write home about.  Thanks to ML’s tutorial on YouTube, I was able to swap out a fork spring in about 20 minutes.  A word of advice, if you plan to take the spring out of your fork for the first time, have an impact wrench (and a 21mm impact socket) handy.  The bottom cap on the fork doesn’t loosen easily the first time.

The bike is awesome. I have 20 hours on mine. The PC pipe made the biggest difference and a vortex from TD made it even better. No rubber grommet and no holes drilled. I did go back from a 51t to a 50t after the mods. Its surprising how smooth and long 2nd is with the pipe and ignition.

The bike does vibrate a good amount. I have had the exhaust side subframe bolts come loose and the seat bolts loosen up. I really cannot complain about this bike. It is my first green one coming from a GG 350 which I loved.

I am running the JKOP 3D printed screenless innercage and have no problems with the air filter setup. Yes, it is a different design but it seals just fine and have had no issues. I do not see the point in getting the powerflow kit. I do want a wash cover for it though.

REP did my suspension and I am happy with it. I have it pretty soft which I think I want some more hold up when I get it serviced. I am running KYB forks but I didn't have any issues with the Showas.

Overall, I am happy with the bike and really enjoy riding it. To those overthinking everything, just ride it, change the oil, and clean the air filter. You'll be happy with it.

I only have 4 rides on mine, but swapped to a 52 rear Sunday and damn that did exactly what I wanted it to do for me at least.

I took out the airbox cover, have a 3d print cage and  removed the rubber decal from sideplate and  have the Chaz Keefer map, stock pipe still.

Been trying to find plastics myself. As well as a Ti-6 complete system. Pro Circuit told me “sometime this month” but I haven’t heard anything from Acerbis.

Get rid of the screens in the muffler asap, it's a whole new bike.

And even more importantly, cut out the baffles.  That, or cough up the money for a PC pipe.  It is a completely different bike once you ditch the stocker.  I’m guessing you might not be too happy with your gearing choice after you open it up.  I just ordered a set of Dirt Tricks sprockets with stock 13/50 gearing because it has plenty of grunt and I love how long 2nd gear pulls.

Yeah I assume once I get a pipe I might be going to a 51 or back to 50, I didn’t want to mess with stock pipe cause my intention is to get a pipe sooner then later.

but hell maybe I’ll do it anyway, can you get them out and whatever else needed without taking it apart ?

Pretty simple to do, remove end cap and grind/cut out baffle that is in the end cap. Then remove the 2 screens inside muffler, 1 is close and can get with long pliers. 2nd one is further down and need long screwdriver or a long drill bit works good aswell. Just tear the crap out of them they will come out.

This mod makes a big difference, I have a Ti6 on order but I'm glad I did this until it turns up. I'm running 51 tooth and think i will stay with 51 even with PC pipe. I run 3rd/4th everywhere.

I just went to the SCRUBDesignz website and search for plastics for '24 Kawasaki KX450 and it says there's nothing available.

Taking out the baffle will be the biggest gain, and you just need to remove the end cap on the muffler and cut the baffles out with a dremel or similar tool.  With the end cap off, you can get to the rear screen easily.  People here say the easiest way to remove the screen is with a drill, although to be honest, after I cut off the baffles I just threw in the towel and ordered the pipe.

I rode my bike last night for the first time after installing a stiffer fork spring in the right fork.  It really helped a lot!  Kawasaki sells fork springs individually, so it saved me quite a few bucks to do it this way and it gave me just a bit more holdup to increase stability without feeling harsh or hurting cornering performance.  I figured if I felt like I needed more, I could always buy a second spring for the right fork.  I’m happy now and think one stiffer spring hit the spot.  Compared to my 2019, the front tire feels so much more planted in corners.
