👍🏻. I traded in the Midwest mud for AZ sand. Not sure what is worse. Bike cleans up easier and doesn't clog up the radiators as bad as mud. But then again easier to suck sand into the intake.
Seems extremely high. 1850 off the show room floor but seems a little low. 2000 RPM sounds about perfect. Thoughts? I know you want to keep the oil pump spinning fast enough to keep good oil pressure, but 2300 seems extreme.
I see that TwinAir has their power flow kit now available on their website. How do you guys feel about the design? Watching the install video, sure seems like a lot of work and everything is still gonna be plastic and not the billet style cages like they use on other bikes. Probably gonna order it regardless because it definitely seems better than the stock as far as filter sealing and overall coverage. A little pricey IMO, but I’ll take the $214 hit if it helps protect a $10k bike better than the stock filter setup.
Also, does anyone know if Acerbis or anyone will make a vented airbox cover as they do for the Austrian bikes?
No one on the board has reported any dirt leaking into the air boot, so I’m not really too sure what the concern is.

13 hours on the powerflow, in the sand, so far no issues.
Set to book specified, when the bike is fully warmed up. Idle is supposed to be ~2300 on all the new fi bikes, and a low idle is the #1 cause of flame outs in my experience.
Stalling in a race sucks big ones, higher the better
Thanks, I'm probably over thinking things..
It 12 o'clocks in 3rd gear, some people say it's slow lol. Probably C riders 🤣
Do you mind if I ask what map you are running?
Need to make a decision this week. Gonna order Dirt Tricks sprockets for my 24 and need to decide whether I want to go with 50 or 51 tooth rear sprocket. I have a PC pipe, and I feel like my bike has plenty of get up and go with stock gearing, but I figured I would ask what everyone else is doing. Those Dirt Tricks sprockets last so damn long that I will be stuck with whatever choice I make for a looong time. What do you think?
I put Keefer’s map in mine with the PC T-6 pipe, and mine absolutely rips. Same airbox mods listed above.
I find that interesting as the map keefer has on his website just adds fuel, a few of the dyno tests and keefer himself has said that the bike is very rich from stock.
Also my vote is for the 51 tooth.
I usually go by the book, but it just seemed ridiculous. Thanks bud, I'll set it to 2200 ish.
It's worth it. Just take your time, 2 hours max. It took me about 45 minutes? But I've been rebuilding transmissions for a thousand year's so I'm probably a little faster than average guy. Make sure to line up the notch in the intake clamp! Need a flash light
Could be worse if you're riding a Suzuki and have to kick start the SOB. I actually owned a 2016 RMZ 450, solid bike, but kicking that bitch over always triggered my siatc nerve.. Old man problems lol
It seems the bike is lean stock, if anything. I believe a few pages back there were a few guys saying they were getting detonation when they opened up the airbox and/or the exhaust.
Pit Row
Yeah I was having trouble with detonation on hot days and definitely feel like the bike is lean. Just some dyno videos on YouTube and Keefer said in his podcast or something that even twisted say it is rich, that has me a little confused.
Could be detonating because of timing more than air fuel ratio.
can be rich and also detonating.
Always lean from the factory to meet emmision standards. No way this bike is running rich.
Yeah I tried a map with more fuel and less timing and it did improve the detonation. It was too slow for my liking but so I've been putting octane boost in my fuel lately and it seems to be ok. Haven't ridden on a real hot day to test it yet but.
I agree, bike definitely feels lean. Especially once airbox and exhaust has been opened up.
0.8 hours. Wow, pretty dark. Brand new bike
Man that does seem pretty dark. I haven't had a chance to even fire mine up. I got it home from the dealership back mid-February and unfortunately had to drain the fuel, remove the battery and cover it up in my garage due to having to fly out for my job for a few months. Bummer for sure to get a new bike and not able to ride it.
However, the more things I am reading and test videos I've watched and such are really making me a little worried about this purchase. I sold a '22 KTM 350 sxf to go for this new Kawi, but just seeing things like: 1) fuel/mapping issues....2) complexity with the rideology app 3) no hour meter within the app 4) seeing a post where someones oil pump gear failed destroying the engine within first few hours 5) Keefer mentioning a "potential" crack in the welds or frame that "could be a recall" 6) seeing the color of that oil change there 7) lack of parts available even though the bike has been out for a while now....etc etc. Really has me feeling a little weird about this purchase.
Not trying to sound super negative here, but I'm thousands of miles from my new bike and can't wait to ride, but I unfortunately per the internet I really haven't seen many positives of the bike which gives me a tad bit of anxiety.
This is my first Kawi so I have zero experience with the brand. Only had Yamaha (2-strokes) and KTM 450 & 350. I just say I had zero issues with any of those listed above aside from not really loving an air fork. I don't recall the oil ever looking more than just a hair darker than brand new during oil changes on the KTM bikes.
In short.......someone please tell me "it's ok, you made a good purchase"......
lol
Always looked like that for me. I was always told that if the oil is dark it does it's job.
But those wet clutch engines seems to get dark oil quickly.
It’s ok you made a good purchase.
It's a badass bike. Throw a pipe on it and do the airbox kit and remove the grommet and the foam from side cover..
Oil is pretty nasty yes, but it's going to be dark after the first change. All my bikes looked like this, almost lol. But it only holds 1.2 quarts. Kawasaki adds zink to the break in oil, maybe it's darker because of that, who knows. Oil is clear now after riding it a bit.
Going to sound like a bommer lol, but I've been riding since 1980....50s, 80s, 125s, 250s, 450s, liter bike's, GS1250 BMW, S1000RR, raced bikes, cars, snowmobiles, jet skis etc. I've been building prototype cars and Transmissions for almost 30 years..this bike to me seems legit, seems like it will be a reliable bike. Run 91-93 octane if available. I'm a big guy, yet this Fucker pulled a 4th gear wheelie from hell today. CR 500 type wheelie lol
I'm coming from a 23 yz450f and 23 350sxf (which I still own). With 12hrs on this new kx it's definitely not perfect but it's better than my previous bikes, don't stress you made the right call 👍
