Top Am C rider vs Local pro?

3/12/2010 10:42am
I used to practice with a kid a couple of times a week who went on to win a moto at Lorettas in the C class, while I was racing the local A class. I wasn't the fastest local A rider by any means, but I was in the upper 3rd of the class usually. When we would practice he would be a couple ticks a lap off my pace, but he was still pretty close for sure. After Loretta's he moved up and ran some races where they combined A and B classes and he finished about mid pack with the A riders and would win the B pretty easily.

Curious how a top Am C rider compares to a decent local pro. Never been to any Am Nationals, but I was thinking pretty close?

This is pretty much what I thought. I know in my district ( 34 ) , Scott Sheak was as fast or faster than our pros when he was in Sr mini and Schoolboy. And we had Kurt Mcmillin and Carlo Coen in our exp class.

Senior Mini and Schoolboy are a long way from C class. Ryan Huffman never won at LLs according to last years program,

Ryan Leach won the 250C classes (both stk and mod) in 1991. In 1995, he won the Open b/c title and became the first c class champion to return to the ranch and win another title.

No, top C am cannot touch an 'actual' pro. Unless you live in a place where the pros really suck. My local tracks top pros are top-ten in sx/mx. So the so-so ones are still incredibly fast. The best Am C cannot even come close. Sometimes you'll have a pro that shouldn't be a pro and a C that also shouldn't be a C, then you could compare.

I think that was the was the OP's implication. And it's not just sometimes with the novice class its a lot of the time.
dude you definately are not fat, maybe out of shape from lack of riding

I remember quite a few years back when Josh Hill was running B class at Lorettas and back here at home he would kill Tiger Lacey. Hopefully thats a better example. Tiger is a fast local pro, but I would think a top C national rider would be just as fast or faster...
then they are fucking cheaters. period....

Conner Elliott is at Whitney this week and has a 27, 32, 29, and a 31 in B class and Schoolboy.

The kid who won the 250C class at Whitney was about 15 seconds a lap slower than the kid who won the A class.

The winner of the 250B title was 5 or 6 seconds a lap slower than the A class winner.
