I’m looking at getting a new bike. Who has the best experience with buying a new bike at a dealership? Which ones don’t stack up the crazy charges and ridiculous fees?

If I lived in Merced I would be buying at Modesto Honda, Kawasaki, KTM.  One of the owners is a friend of mine and a good dude.

I like to buy from a dealership with guys who race; my last bike was bought from a dealership where I met a bunch of the people who worked there, including the owners, at a night race when I was racing with two of the mechanics who worked there. Because they knew me, they gave me a great price out the door without all the mark-ups.

My second strategy, if my dealer doesn't carry what I want, is to view Cycle Trader for the model I want and see who has the best deals within an acceptable driving range, then give them a call.

I hate that the car dealership type dealers have come in and taken over a good chunk of dealerships.

I much prefer mom and pop type dealers that employ actual motorcycle enthusiasts.

As much as I would like to purchase from my local dealers, I cannot justify spending the crazy fees they tack on. I can drive 2 or 3 hours and save a couple of thousand.

It’s all about price….dealers have bills and so do I so we have to meet in the middle some how. Cindy and everyone there is cool.

Which ever dealer is close and is stocking what interests you.  This might be helpful:

No I used to buy when Tim was there because I got hooked up for way under cost. He was like part owner or something. Now days it’s horrible

Exactly I agree these car dealers have bought some of the bike shop and now put all these mark ups on bikes

For KTM/Husky/GasGas...

Fator's in Redding has been pretty damn good to me and many of my friends. They were extremely helpful during the pandemic for getting bikes and parts at good prices.

Good luck,

Aren't we, the customers, the ones who killed the mom and pop dealerships? I remember them, every kid in my neighborhood that owned a bike nickel and dimed them for everything, everyone wanted an "account", everyone wanted "sponsored", everyone wanted a loaner bike, everyone wanted "warranty" work, everyone wanted a bike in the crate "at cost", everyone wanted to pay for things in installments, everyone wanted to work on bikes for them to pay off their parts they never paid for. The ones I remember were hard core enthusiasts that got shit on consistently by their customers.

Can’t agree more. I called them first when looking for a new bike a few years ago.

They wanted $11.8k OTD on a ‘21 KX 450 in February of 2021. That was after I mentioned the Keefer deal. I bought one in town from a terrible dealership for $1,500 less.

I will never buy a bike from them. Not for the riders at all.

The closest dealer who sells your preferred brand that has the best customer service. Size of a dealer doesn’t matter they have the same access to things it comes down to customer service. Huge dealers with all the parts in the world do not matter if the parts guy can’t find your part or is even familiar with your bike. Dealerships that employ people that actually ride should be the priority

Yep, they are corporate. Always treat your customers right through the thick and thin. That's the best thing to do for a business.

I have worked for a few dealers, there are always factors that effect price and service, it all really comes down to timing.  The shop I am at right now does not sell new bikes, only used, but we do buy a lot of new bikes from dealers especially up north before winter at the end of the model year.  In Texas we can sell bikes year round, but dealers in Cleveland or Buffalo struggle in the winter, the last couple years we have made some good buys heading into winter.

But isn't most of that "mark up" tax? How is the dealer going to avoid tax for you? He really should learn how to spell cities.

And if you called them out for listing bikes well over msrp + fees they will block you on social media. Not a good look.

I just left Merced after working there for 3 months. The dealership there, I know why you asking about other places. Ooch!!. I went to their place on Black Friday (got a couple bike stands for $20 each) and noticed they had insane mark up. Like a $3500 Grom was like $6k. Nice people but nice people don't get that kinda extra green.

I'd take a road trip to that place in Oregon if it was me.

At least call to see what they have in stock. Power Motorsports I think was the name. Good luck!!
