Not looking for a knee pad vs brace debate.

For my own reasons braces aren't an option.

Everytime I fall in love with a knee pad, they become discontinued by the time im due for another.

I prefer two straps below the knee. The TLD ones i have now have a compression sleve for the knee and then the knee pad with shin guard velcros to that, along with two lower straps. I do prefer ones that have hard plastic on the outside vs the soft ones that leatt and the like make.

Ive tried a couple from evs and oneal but the knee cup is so huge and not form fitting at all so i didn't like them.

Whatre you usin'?

This. I no longer wear my CTi 2's and just run these and they are excellent. Actually makes it much easier to grip the bike properly without destroying graphics or the inside of your knees. Plus they don't pinch anywhere nor have I ever noticed them creeping down during the day.

The TP199 is it for me now. The xl sleeve is a bit small for my calf and quad though. Im using G Form elbow now, also a bit small in the sleeve. I got the TP elbow pads and they are too thin for me, I want protection, don't want to not be able to work.

I used to use forever Rollerblade knee pads and Elbow pads, they slide all over now. Never felt anything with those.

I'm on my third set of Shift knee guards.  Good flexibility, they stay in place, and they're inexpensive.

Do the tp199 ones have hard plastic in them for the knee and shin? Or is it all soft padding?

Somewhere between soft padding and a soft hard shell, if that makes any sense. I don't feel like they lack in protection at all vs. a hard shell knee pad.

TP199 for me also. I switched from a Dainese Armoform Pro knee guards which are hard shelled. These Dainese are incredible and i would switch back but there is just one issue I had with them that cause the switch.

The plastic loop that the strap ran through was on the inside and would dig into me. I do believe this is a me + bike issue and unique to my situation. They have held up GREAT and I would be right back in them if I could. I use them on the mtb now depending on where I am riding.

I believe the TP199 is the best on the market right now also for moto guys though. The hard plastic is in the shin but not the knee.image-20240217202017-1

IMG 5414 0These Leatt knee/shin guards in the smallest size that fits well. They’re not bulky and not like a sleeve.

Do you feel like both of those offer good protection on the inside of the knee? I bang the hell out of my shrouds and sometimes end up with sore knees in that area.

Im having a hard time finding those exact dainese pads. Got a link?

I also use my knees to "claw" at the bike if you will. Aways grabbing and readjusting. I know how you feel.

The TP199 have alot on the inside and will definitely give you what you need. I no longer get sore insides. I would get sore insides with the dainese ONLY because of the placement of that little loop i showed you. The dainese are also for MTB so they don't have the moto-centric design. So if they dont hit you in a bad spot I think they'll work alright. I use some thicker knee sleeves under my guards too. These are somewhere in between a knee brace liner like we use in moto and a weightlifting sleeve for squats.

Here are the ones I showed a picture of: https://www.dainese.com/us/en/outlet/bike/safety/armoform-pro-knee-guar…

Here are the motocross version of those. These look awesome: https://www.dainese.com/us/en/outlet/motorbike/safety/mx1-knee-guard-20…

The knee sleeves I like. Non restrictive but definitely cut down on my bruising: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MXOEECH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asi…

Appreciate the info. I may call them Monday to see if i can get them before daytona. On the flip side, the 199s are hard not to try. Anyone use the slayco version? I noticed the ce rating is higher on those too.

i rode Cti for literal decades.  been on EVS TP199 for 3yrs after a retired factory rider friend i trust told me to just try them.  and i only say that to say even then, with decades of brace history, i was hesitant.

zero regrets.

I used to run the TP199s and love them. I have recently switched to evs slayco knee pads. They fit slimmer and allow me to have a better feel of the bike while still feeling just as protected.

Dumped the knee braces after many years and bought these above. I can feel the bike much better.... much. Highly  suggest them. As in just do it. Also much easier to put on and off...    Should have done this years ago.

With the 199’s do you guys recommend the full length or lites? Thanks

2/18/2024 5:22am

I recently picked up a pair of the EVS Slayco kneepads. Have only had a few rides on them, but really love the feel / connection to the bike, and protection they offer from the "knee pad inside a knee pad" design. Only uncertainty so far is how hot they will be in summer, as they run pretty warm already in the winter.

I was looking at grabbing the TP199's however with the slayco just coming out they look like an improvement. Few reviews claim the slayco sizing is really small. I don't think it will be an issue since I got skinny legs. Currently using older Leatt 3DF's.

Get the full length ones.  The longer length fits into your boot nicely and helps keep it in place.  10 out of 10 would recommend TP199's.  I've been wearing them since the beginning of '21.  They have a short "break in" period so initial feel might seem a little snug but I promise you they break in an offer a great feel on the bike.  Also nice that they're easier to walk around in and not as uncomfortable when you're in your gear for 8+ hours.

I have these as well. I’ve used them for 3 years or so. The insides of my knee do get sore from gripping the bike because there is not a lot of cushion there. Otherwise the protection is great. I will be going to the tp199/slayco’s next.

if youre guna go the tp199 route look into the slayco version, seems to be updated version.  I switched from the leat dual axis (which i had no issues with and still recommend) but these def allow you to grip the bike better , i dont notice them at all when riding.

The new god i hate writing it slayco knee pads run small i cant stress this enough. I run the full 199's and slayco are way to tight.

Think of these as the extra small/small and med/lg the in between sizes.
