Jeezus. What a soap opera. Who really cares what Pourcel thinks of America? Who gives a shit what any "insider" thinks of Pourcel? These guys are just motorcycle racers, not cultural geniuses. Hell, most are a bunch of kids who haven't done shit other than ride a dirt bike. This is the trouble with media. It gives any idiot a public forum.

Shut the fuck up and race, or if you're not racing but have insider influence, fix our fucking sport. Goddamn.

I don't have anything against Pourcel. Honestly, I barely know him. Maybe that's part of the problem. I'm sure he is a good kid if he would open up, talk to people and try to be a part of the US MX world he's living in. The couple comments I've made are more of a warning to him. He doesn't have to learn the words to the Star Spangled Banner or tattoo an American flag on his bicep... just show some respect to the country he's going to be living in for a while and the people that live here. It will only make his time here harder on him if he doesn't.
And I really mean it when I say that I love watching him ride. He's so good I actually catch myself smiling during the races. Anyway, I hope he loosens up a bit and makes an attempt to be a part of the sport here. Guys like Albee, Townley, Roncada, Vuillemin, Tortelli, etc, etc all did just that and guess what.... we love those guys.
Your column was uncalled for and you know it, dont bash on pourcel like that because many people read your column and will believe that crap. You are unfairly hurting his reputation and relation with the american motorcross fans. So if you barely know the guy why would you write such a thing? thats careless and hurtful jounalism, sir.

I think Pourcel is pretty arrogant ... in a good way... he isn't there to say the US is the greatest, in his mind he is there to beat them, get the paychecks and enjoy the lifestyle that goes with winning in the US - he thinks he is better than every rider out there. A lot of French guys wanted to race in America... Pourcel wants to win in America and he is good enough to do it.

I think he was the same in GPs.. he was always pretty aloof and stand offish, from what i understand. So I don't think it is anti- America, I think he just likes to do his own thing and has a lot of self belief.

it seems to me he is a pretty funny guy if he lets people in, he has had to adapt to a different language and culture as well as continued problems from his injuries. That would not be easy. If Dungey RV or Stewart had to live in France and they (france) didn't speak English it would be hard for them too.

Pourcel seems more comfortable and at ease in the US this year too. I don't think the comment was necessary by Ping. If he wants to be accepted in America Ping is right he has to do those things... I think it is more important for him to win than be accepted though.

Don't forget it is alot easier for a guy from Australia, SA, NZ or UK to live and adapt to America becasue everything especially the language is similar to their home country.. so it is easier for them to adapt be open and accepted.

Pourcel is a genius on a bike... just enjoy his riding- it dosn't really matter whether he likes the country he is racing in is does it? I don't see how he couldn't like living in Florida anyway....

I think Xavier made some great points.

Xavier, I also thought that when Erin asked that slightly long question, and he wasn't looking at her either, which would make understanding harder... I watched the race with friends at my house and told them even after CP fell back to third that he would find a win to win, which he did. He's just an incredibly talented competitor, with amazing racecraft and technique on the bike. And when he called Barcia "that little kid," I thought it was pretty funny (and remember, Justin also had a run-in with Martin Davalos earlier in the day that ended badly for Martin when he was DQ'd) so that might have been in Pourcel's mind as well.

When I first met Bayle in 1987, he couldn't speak a lick of English. I was in college at the time and had to pick a language, and since I was a big fan of Jacky Vimond and also the journalist Pat Boulland, I decided to take French. By the time Bayle got here in '89, he was starting to pick up the language, but I still couldn't speak French well enough to order a drink at the hotel bar at the Bercy Supercross. Point is, I have never faulted anyone for not learning English, because I can't think of one American rider who can speak a lick of French or Italian except for Trampas Parker and Bob Moore -- and for obvious reasons!

But Pourcel is aloof, no doubt about it. What should he change? Not a damn thing. Whatever he's got going on right now is working well! Vive le francais!

I like Ping's articles. That doesn't mean that I will run my life by them. I will say this, a while back Ping wrote an article about being a Chinese factory racer in RacerX. I shit you not, I still will crack up at the oddest times when I think of that. It was the funniest thing I ever read. I was having dinner with a couple RacerX guys outside of Mt.Morris(that's all I'll say) a couple years ago and found out that it was actually a true story and the "backlash" from it. Made it even funnier. Keep it up, Ping if you are reading this yet!

Ping has a knack for saying things that most people know are true but don't have the guts to admit or say themselves, which in today's ultra pc world doesn't always go over well with those who think their poo poo has no odor.

CP is effortless on a bike, so much so it is ridiculous. I love to watch him, and I love to watch the other kids step up and challenge him-great racing, bottom line. The guy is quickly learning English, what more do we want? He is NOT being a dick, he is being a professional. I say we appreciate him in our sport while we have the opportunity to watch him. He will be a force on the 450 next year. We're in good hands with all of the talent blossoming in front of us. I would argue that the racing has never been better in both classes then it is right now.

Hey Mohamadd- you sure whine alott? Why don't you go find a Euro/France board so you can whine about America some more. Take McCread and the bigggest dum-azz in the sport MXGeoff with you. Like I said before Sx doesn't need the French around here-it would smell better!

In the words of Eddie Murphy, from "Trading Places"...(Turn on your "Sarcasm-Detector"...)

BTFU!

You need to throw some Salt on that big'ol wound ya got there...my Pseudo-French-friend!

Shall we stop and take stock of the fact that we let ANYONE come over here and race?

ANYONE!

And we make it EASY for them

Can't say that about all of you over on "The Old Continent"...in-fact...let's be clear...

Y'all, Historically, have made it more than "Difficult" for many of our guys to come over there and Kick YOUR ass...(Note: Christophe is over HERE KICKIN' OUR ASS! And I love that!)

We have learned to HARNESS the anger, hatred and over-all "Rejection" we get over there and turn it into R-E-S-U-L-T-S!

Now, as of late, some of that has changed; however, I think we'll be on a much more "Even-Footing"..as will the Aussie's and other "Non-Euro's" when the Motocross -OF- Nations is OVER HERE!

Now, since I'm done bein' a smart-ass...IF you get your rear-end up to Colo for "Our" race: Dinner is on me!

Jeez all you jingoistic fanboys crack me up.

I dont need to like Pourcel or agree with his opinions, it's not like we're going to drink beer and watch football together.

I just want to watch him ride, not too many guys on this planet are as skilled as he is on a dirt cycle. Respect the man for that.

Some of you guys just like being Drama Queens...

BTW, to Ping and everyone else, CP doesn't give respect to anyone or anything. He just does his own deal, be it in France, USA or Kazakstan.
That's so right ...

Pourcel is the same guy who raced GP's with the exact same attitude, but due to Pings' lack of knowledge for anything outside of his own shores, he wouldn't know that..

I tend to takes his columns as a bit of fun, 'cos that's all they are.

Who actually listens to Geoff Meyer?

He publishes Luongo's so called interviews, so don't expect his other writings to be anything more than toiletpaper filling.

MXLarge is Europe's answer to racetime.

Let the guy act how he want's. People are just pissed because he is kicking everyone's ass. Maybe he should start acting like a fool, answering dumb question's and filming at least one goon riding video a week. Then he will fit right in.

But -and I don't want to enter the Erin Bates' bashing wagon there- if you make a serious attempt to listen to what she asks, the words and word combinations she uses and the speed of her talk on the podiums, I can guarantee that there is very little chance that someone with Christophe's current understanding of English gets a decent clue of what she means, let alone answer it accurately.

Language is not an issue. Her boobs are at eye level for most Lite class riders. Stick a pair of these in front of your average young man and it is not surprising that they become incapable of having an original thought, let alone answer the question...

The guy is a racer, he doesn't seem to care about "the good ol boy" clique. He's here to race. Good for him.

I wonder if 'push out' is the new term for getting stuffed. Give CP a chance, it's pretty obvious that he barely understands English... How do you expect him to come across?

Ha! Xenophobe. That's funny since I had Steve Boniface on my team last year and Ben Townley this year. (and a WMA rider soon to be announced for anyone that wants to call me a sexist as well). What's wrong, Eddie? Fresh out of weed up there in BC?
