3hp and 7lbft gain? They are trying to trick people with their % gain vs straight up numbers lol. The torque number is a pretty solid gain though.

I agree. Mine feels similar to my 22 with the ECU and pipe. I thought I was going to go to a 51 sprocket, after riding a faster track I think I'll leave it. With the baffles you had to use 2nd gear, but now I can run 3rd just like my 22 with a 51 sprocket.

What did you have to take apart to remove these pieces?

Just removed the end cap. The first screen is close enough to remove with long pliers. Second one is further down but I got that with a long screw driver and knocked it out. The metal baffle is in the end cap. Some just press the flanges out but I removed it completely by cutting and die grinding it out.

FYI air filter situation for this bike just got a lot better.

New testing on the dyno is showing a significant improvement.

You 2024 KX 450 guys will be very happy in a few months with a new after market airbox and filter configuration coming out.

A better question might be why did they decide to put the bike into production with an obviously poorly designed air intake system, when the factory teams on both sides of the Atlantic use something different?  They have been testing this bike for over a year.

IMHO First year bikes are always weird no matter the brand...

BTW, maybe I missed it earlier in the thread, but did you ever get a resolution from Kawasaki and root cause on your engine failure? If so, direct me back and I'll re-read it.

Just curious as to cause and how they're handling issues.

I have been told the 2024 is restricted to meet 2025 Euro sound requirements.  Kaw did not want to make big changes after one year and they did not want to have to build two different versions, one for Europe and and another for US, Canada and select other countries.  The airbox and muffler are all to meet sound.  I heard there was a different airbox on pre-production bikes that were being tested but they ended up coming with the version we have now for 2025 Sound. As we have all seen, an exhausts and open filter make a big difference.  This will probably be the norm going forward, they will all have to meet sound in Europe for 2025, Kaw pulled the trigger first.

Should I be cancelling my twin air powerflow kit for next month and wait on what’s next?

Bummer.  Damn Euros.  Aftermarket won’t complain, though.

Not yet.
Kawi has the crank and is trying to figure out why the lower rod bearing seized.  Tolerance on the old crank is tighter than the new one, but I guess we wait to see what they say.

Anyone found strange bushing wear and scoring on the inside of their fork cartridges? My local suspension shop here popped them open to swap the oil out and we found the oil was pretty nasty but filled with some metal. We looked over and found one of the bushings on the compression valving worn out. Later one we looked inside the cartridge tube and saw it all scored up to the point it needs a new cartridge tube. This was only in the right side fork. Cartridges hadn't been opened up only springs changed. Additionally we found the upper triple tree on the right side slightly bent, and the steering head races and bearings needed to be replaced. They weren’t destroyed by any means but had some markings on the race.  Kx450X with about 30 hours or so on it.

I did take a tumble a few weeks back on to the left side of the bike but it was a pretty low speed crash in soft sand. To me its hard to imagine that would bend the triple tree. We are thinking this what caused the wear on the inside of the right cartridge. Where theres smoke theres fire, but I also wanted to reach out to potentially ask if it could have been a factory issue.

I asked the Kawi guy i know in holland and he said this is true.

sound testing this year in MXGP is going to be tougher than last year, they are doing a lot of testing with air boxes and ECUs to get through testing while still having the HP they need, that is why twin air and some other companies are testing lot of new designs.
