I think a smaller ass on mine would be fastest mod. Then riding lessons really make it faster too. I'm on week 6 with a personal trainer. Also did suspension mods with the kyb forks, lowered the gearing, and different bars. Stock maxxis tires didn't last long, and they were replaced with Michelins.

I completely disagree with just about everything you just said.

firstly, we aren’t talking about Nationals we are talking average riders that mostly do track days and race occasionally.

Secondly, Even at 230 pounds i can pull 450s everywhere except maybe on the start but i’ll still be top 5 and can let the 350 eat further and will make it up through the first turn.

thirdly, my corner speed will crush a 450 any day of the week, i can carry speed further into the corner zone one, be smooth through zone 2 and accelerate harder out of zone 2 through 3 and the exit to clear even the largest obstacles even immediately following the corner.

most people that say they don’t like 350s just don’t like austrian brand motorcycles or try to compare it to a 450 and that’s too bad … it is the perfect motorcycle in just about every situation on a track!

I have tried the 350 experiment on 2 occasions. In total I have had 5 Ktms over the last few years. But have always gone back to my Honda 450' s. On my 350 efforts 1 was an 18 the other was a 23. I had a ride on a mates 23 350 that had an Akro muffler and KYB forks and shock work. ( he is a suspension tec) I was blown away on how good it was and picked up a local 350 but that was stock. I was shocked at how different they were and was disappointed.  Then I added up how much I was going to spend to get it to where I felt I wanted the bike to be. I decided not to pursue that and sold the 23. There are times when I felt I gave up way too fast on  the latest gen 350. I know at some point I will go back to the 350 pond and try again.

My mods would be,

Spring fork conversion, shock set up, slip on & Vortex ignition

Thats a quick way to spend 4g

Im a 55yo vet that rides MX on a weekend for fun.

Austin your a very fast rider but I bet you would be quite surprised of the 24 350 I was not a fan of the early editions then rode a 23 I’m a fat out of shape vet rider but the power is definitely closer now on 350   Understand when you’re racing for money can’t give up the start but if it was a long moto would be very effective. I have added vortex and on the best on dyno mode it definitely has more punch then my 22 factory edition 450

I just don’t gel with the chassis after 22’

Depends on your model, this shop is selling a few model years for 50% off.

Unfortunately I haven’t seen any deals on the 23+ yet

Obviously we can't say "money no option" because we're all mere mortals around here, BUT say you're flush with cash and you've got a bone stock bike, what's on your wish list to make it work better for you?

I'm a +30 intermediate that's always just adapted to whatever setup is on my bike, but I've had some struggles getting a really good feeling on my 19 350sxf and I'd like to change that for 2024. Does a guy go full send and get CVs and a trax even though I'll never be fast enough to put it to work? Ohlins for a bit less money? Gold valves are really affordable, or just go to a local shop and get a revalve there on the AER?

What made your bike work better for you? Help a brother out.

Can’t speak on “full send” on suspension but getting the WP 6500 kit and having REP revalve that and do my shock was all I needed. I’ve heard from a couple people the cone valve is less comfort and they prefer the 6500. Shock wise I’m happy with just a REP tuned rear. Maybe toss that linkage in there. Next step is a vortex it brings the bikes to life down low. This is all I’ve done on my 250sxf and I’m pretty stoked on it. 29yr old local wanna be pro.

I am running a nearly identical setup as you.

Cone Valve's setup by Powerband Racing

FMF slip on (stock muffler is very restrictive on GG MC 350, KTM muffler is good alternative as well.)

WP Factory split clamps

14/52 gearing

Two stroke filter cage with inside flap cut off airbox cover

Had a Vortex on previous 350, will be purchasing another.

Currently riding a 23 450sxf I keep thinking about switching to the 350. I love the current ktm chassis and this updated airfork. Has anyone else made the switch from a 23 ktm 450 to a 350?

I went 21 gasgas450 to 23 gasgas 350. Honestly I liked the gasgas 450 better as it was a mellower powerplant than the KTM 450, but lugged out of turns better than a 350. Both great bikes. I'll keep the 350 since I have it. It just needs more clutch work and gotta shift more. Getting tired or lazy on the 350 is definitely slower than on a 450.

The Ktm 350 has a better bottom than the gasgas

We might have a discussion gong on where we are caught between how we feel on a bike versus how fast we actually are when we are keeping lap times.

Knowing a few of you and being on the track with you -OR- seeing you race, in some cases, I can say the following: OB is happier and rides faster laps longer on a 350. Also, 350s seem to last FOREVER for that dude.

When Austin was racing, he shredded on a 450 while riding the same way a lot of us do on a 350…including revving it.

We’re onto a more important subject when you think about it: risking a bike that makes you/allows you to focus on what you’re doing. For me? My favorite bike for “working on my turns”?
IMG 1337 0My mint condition 2007 RM 125 that I bought for $3500 during The Panickdemic just to have a 125 again. This thing turns like a dream. When you get a turn just right on this? You feel like the you’ve conquered the world…with a smile

I need a side pic. Love the graphics from what I can see. I love 125s, even as a vet now. Very vet…

Reading this as I consider a 350 if I get back into riding dirt.

Yes, the 23 and up KTM had the new engine while the 23 gasgas was basically a 22 KTM without a map switch. I put the map switch on the 23 gasgas, and map 2 pulls better at low rpm. Have not had an opportunity to try the newer engine yet.

This is what ive done to my 22. A lot of the mods are similar to what other have done.

Vortex ECU from Twisted

FMF 4.1 Slip on

VP T4

2 stroke filter cage

14/52 gear

6500 inserts done by REP

Shock revalve w/spring by REP

REP knuckle(helped with accel/decel chop)

Im 6'-1" and 280lb A/B vet. REP knocked it out of the park for me, but others would be fine with the air fork. The biggest thing that helped for a guy my size was ecu and gearing, just to give it more pep down low. For guys coming from a 450, you may struggle as this bike loves to be rev'ed. You def work harder riding it and it will wear you out, but not as quickly as a 450 would at race pace. I think this part of the 350 life with riding the bike much harder and getting pumped up quicker, doesnt get mentioned as much on here. For me at my weigh, i def have to ride the 350 hard lol. Yes its fun and you feel like a hero.

With all that being said, I still havent sold my 21 yz450 and it mainly has to do with my size. I dont have to work as hard on the 450 as I do on the 350 which equates to me not get pumped up as quick at times, but i get humbled pretty quick when i go from riding the 350 to the 450 and I try riding the 450 like its the 350 lolol. Thats when you have to slow things down... go slow to go fast.

Bloody hell, I'll say.

I am considering it as I want to be able to not have to commit to staying SO ride fit for the 450 but if it costs this much to make the 350 workable, I might just stay on the 450.

perhaps finding ways to mellow out the power of the 450 will be cheaper than boosting the 350...

I mean, is it THAT much? Put a Vortex on it. Done. Seems like every poster on this site puts a pipe, vortex, and revalved suspension on whatever size bike they ride. What's the difference

I think a lot of people would be happy with a vortex and forks on these bikes (somehow some guys love the stock air forks, I wasn’t one of them). The rep linkage is a nice addition also, but I wouldn’t say it’s needed. Same with the split clamps.

Dirt bikes are now what hot rods used to be be for empty nesters. My wife has 5k plus in her 350, suspension, mapping, auto clutch, stabilizer, it adds up. But boy we pile the hours on the bikes. She rides it every week, so yeah, a good mountain bike, skeet gun, fishing boat, hobbies are not cheap.
