I have a question I'm hoping someone else here was witness too or knows the name of the kids by chance. Mid to late 90s at Broome Tioga on amateur day the 80s were racing around and there were two kids on CR80s destroying the competition. They were the only 2 jumping the tabletop by the road all the way over the step down. As it was that was a small landing from quite the height so when he overjumped it to flat he got hurt pretty bad. I was wondering if anyone remembers that incident or the names of the kids. Pretty sure they went on to be well known just cant remember. Somewhere else said it sounds like the Alessis.

Umhoffer brothers?
I do remember the Alessi brothers racing amateur day at Broome on cr80s. My son even brought it up the other day. The two tried to cut to the front of the line in practice and the track worker made them go back to the end which we thought was funny. I looked at the Lorretta's vault to try and find a time line. The Alessis were on Honda cr80s starting in 2002. Paul Carpenter was on a cr80 in 1995 but Jack looked to be on Suzuki so that didn't help at all. Now I'm curious
if it was early-mid 90's was probably Pauly Carpenter and Joe Delaversano (I'm sure the spelling is wrong; If memory serves correct, he had a passenger bus converted into an RV at the time). Third guess would be Chris Hunter.
Depending on the actual date, it possibly could've been Barcia and Brandon Mays (sp?). I can remember watching those 2 when I was waiting on the gate at Silver Springs in WNY. Both were on cr 80's. Roughly during your timeline if I remember correctly.

Phil?
Don't know about the specific Broome crash you mention, but the 1990's, NY state , and CR80 does make me think of Paul Carpenter, who used to jump this huge step down jump at one of our local tracks that gave serious air time and just looked absolutely nuts on an 80 from the spectator area. At least one other kid on an 80 hit it as well..
Definitely those guys were all on CR80s. I remember Aaron Dieter over jumping that step down but he was on a RM80 that would have been 95 or 96.
Are you talking about the step down on the old Batavia track?
I've heard rumors that Carpenter jumped the fly-off at Hogback but never saw it in person.
The Palmyra fly off is exactly what I was talking about. It used to be huge. I jumped it a number of times on a 250 and had a healthy respect for it. I was amazed to see Carpenter and Casey Higgins both do it while battling for the Sr Mini win....it was insane to see those two tiny bikes fly that far....
Yeah it was a monster back then.
I don't know but...there was BMX factory team call Tioga in the early 80's...and Jeff bottema was on it...and scott Clark..
Unless I was mistaken. I do remember both a RM80 ripping one year and the CRs the other. This had to be right around 95. Anything before I think id have been too young. I bet I got them confused.
Those guys ripped! I always remember them on Yamahas though.
Was Chris Hunter Canadian?
Wish I could help...but one of the few positive memories I have is '92(may even '93) when the old man and I went to the National...we had been to a few big races by then, but the big down hill jump...Jeffro just going off big time and the old man just saying "Holy Fuck"...
Barcia and mays were on 80’s in the mid 2000’s
First ones I thought of when he said CR80's. LOL haven't heard that name in years. They were on 80's like 92-93, if I rember right
Pit Row
Dave and Mike. Not sure if they ever raced BTSC Am day though. Rode cr80’s in 1991 and maybe (?) 1992. Yamaha’s in 1993, mostly all NESC stuff.
Nope; American
Wayne Scott from NJ?
While they were Hondas, he was on big bikes by early 90's.
Think I remember him & Plotts having some epic battles…maybe on 125”s?
Paul and Casey on 80s
Another great memory was late 90s my dad signed my brother and I up for the Tony D MX school the day after the national I believe. We got to ride the pro track up the hill and it hadn't been groomed. I'll tell you those braking bumps about swallowed my 125.
Chris Hunter and Paul Carpenter. Those kids were very fast, especially at broome. I remember watching them hit that huge straight up and down table top, thinking how tf?!
Yep. I saw those two at Palmyra in the mid 90's, those 80's were WFO all the way around the corner and all the way up the face of the jump, it was nucking futz!!!
Sorry to hijack this tread but I remember reading on hear about a fast kid that I think was from Brazil?. His dad had a few quid. Apparently he quit and his RV is still at the Millsaps compound.
